McCarthy won MoM for February, the EFL should have sent him a comb rather than a trophy

Munoz worried about Cardiff set pieces and ariel threat.
Cardiff would be totally dim not to attack us in this way.
Our defence is awful at corners, etc and we have a kerper who will not come off his line or defend the 6 yd box.
I hope for a win, but l see Cardiff just launching it into our box whenever they can.

This is the most elementary thought in the world and as far from revolutionary as it can be, I'm sure. But regardless, I hope that in the rare opportunity for training this week, aside from the tactics and schemes of set piece defence, ethos-wise the defenders have been drilled with the maxim of just not conceding corners.

Do whatever you have to do not to concede a corner.

I think we do quite often see our defenders choose to just bang it out/allow it to go out for one and take that as a job well done, but whether that's true or not usually, we just can't operate that way in this particular game.

Assess the options and put it straight out for a throw every time, before it gets near the byline. Hold on and clear it for a second rather than trying to play about on our line and getting caught out. The rest of the time we can dilly dally and dance and whatever in defence as much as they like, but please, not this one. We have to keep the amount to a minimum as part of our gameplan, before/negating having to worry about defending them. The first line of defence, etc etc blah blah.

I agree with the essence of your point but Cardiff are a bit of a threat from long throws too I believe.

Yeah fairplay, but I'd take my chances from those over the corners, given the essential guarantee of one or the other occcurring.

And we have an annoying tendency to give away needless free kicks too. As good as Sierralta has been, he does love a pointless run into the back of an attacker when he's receiving the ball with back to goal.

Agree. If a shot is heading towards the top corner, I would rather Bachmann let them score, than give those set piece merchants a corner

    I disagree with this.

If we are behind, sure. Save time by conceding a certain goal, then get the ball down the other end of the pitch quickly.

But if we are ahead, save it, to then inevitably concede at the next corner. Maybe even haul them down and concede a penalty at the corner if possible. Time waste as much as we can to try and see out that 90 minutes.

I think we only scored twice from set pieces last season, both Dawson goals after lockdown. **** defender for us no doubt, but maybe if we weren't so **** at set pieces, he'd have been our hero! :(

This could well be our toughest remaining game of the season given their threat at set-pieces, so a meltdown will probably not be warranted should we lose.

How do we rank in the league in terms of conceding from set pieces? I feel nervous every time we concede one, but wonder how we actually stack up

I imagine there will be understandable huge disappointment at seeing 2nd spot slipping further away, but I doubt a meltdown. A defeat is very possible but we need to win 8 or 9 of our last 11 games to get second spot so a defeat, whilst not-unexpected, would be a massive blow with games vs Brentford, Swansea, Reading, Norwich, MBoro and the scum still to come.

7 conceded. Millwall, Norwich and Swansea are the only teams to have conceded fewer (5).
