Exactly how I'm starting to feel. I'm not expecting or even to a degree wanting Bachmann to be as aggressive as Foster with crosses but the 6 yard box at a minimum is something he should be owning but just doesn't appear to be able to do. Could be his lack of senior appearances not giving the experience to handle it yet, but it's something he has to sort out ASAP if he wants a longer spell as our keeper. The more teams target this, unless we see a fast and stark improvement we will be exploited on this alone. I don't want Foster as our keeper, but unless Bachmann can show sharp improvement I only want him as my backup due to this after this Season. Dahlberg is my keeper for next Season regardless of division unless Bachmann shows some fast development.
Wilmot was poor but where it dropped is where you expect a keeper aiming to be our No. 1 to be able to move out and catch before it arrives. Even if it's only a punch that's fine but he doesn't do it.
Agreed. Bachmann is putting too much pressure on our CBs to win every ball in the 6 yard box. They won't win every ball. Maybe he will develop that confidence/ability, but we ain't seen nothin' yet to suggest he's capable.
So you are saying even though 6 other players had ample opportunities to play a decent ball it was still down to Bachmann's earlier ball. If you use this principle, how many assists does he have?
I'm saying he's as responsible as the others. I'm sure he'd be the first to accept that. And if he (or anyone else) plays a smart ball out of defence and a few passes later it ends up in us scoring then I'd credit them for that too.
Yep. He’s always been this. The problem is that Foster has basically become this too, but with the annoying YouTube stuff on the side. Whichever league were in next year, GK is a position that needs attention. With any luck, Dahlberg will put together a run of games while on loan during the second half of our season and come back ready to properly challenge, but if not, we absolutely need to invest in a proper number 1.
Foster I would say has gone the other way. He's way too aggressive trying to get to everything and was getting increasingly caught out by it when he would have actually been better waiting and taking a position to instead react to that. But I agree we need another No. 1 if Bachmann doesn't quickly change this, preferably Dahlberg. I'm very happy with Bachmann as 2nd choice though as he's shown he's competent and will do a steady job, with his own plus points.
I really can't decide when Foster's fit who between Bachmann and Foster should be playing. Bachmann's only real weakness is unfortunately a big one with crosses, but I much prefer his more serious attitude and other facets on his game. If push came to shove, I'd keep Bachmann over Foster if for nothing else is sends a signal to the squad that form and attitude is more important than past accolades and being too blasé with football as a whole.
Yup. Though after a few years of Gomes and Foster's distribution being a bit suspect, it's been good to see a goalie who can ping passes out comfortably.
Foster for me. I appreciate Bachman is better with the ball at his feet but his main job is as a goalkeeper and I thing Foster is quite a lot better. If Foster is fit tonight I would play him and especially against Cardiff
Could hardly have asked for a quieter game! Didn't really do much, if anything wrong today, I thought Forest's crossing was pretty average, but he dealt with one or two of them well
Although I stand by my comments on Bachmann's far better distribution and handling of shots, I just can't look past his weakness with crosses and would reinstate Foster despite my misgivings with him as well. Regardless of divison, we need to replace Foster with Dahlberg who we rate very highly and at this point either needs his shot or sell him and keep Bachmann as 2nd choice. He's proven to be better than Pantillimon and Arlauskis as a backup GK (I'd put him on par with Karnezis who was equally uninspiring) and at least is a competent choice. I also like his attitude where he has something to prove despite this. Dahlberg 1st Choice Bachmann 2nd Choice Elliot 3rd Choice
His composure on the ball actually really helps us as it means we don't lump it long so often and he's a decent enough shot stopper apart from the Bournemouth howler. But he looks like a disaster waiting to happen with crosses and that handball today was ludicrous, he could've easily caught it in the area. But then do you drop a keeper that's kept this many clean sheets when Foster's back?
I think I would only if Foster is 100% fit. An in form Foster is better than Bachmann. An out of form Foster is worse than Bachmann. Ideal 2nd choice GK. The clean sheet stat is a red herring as it misses the nuance behind it.
Has anyone actually seen much of Dahlberg on his loan spells away from the club? Seen the obligatory social media clips of him making good saves, but apart from that, what's he like? Can he command his area like Foster, is he comfortable with the ball at his feet like Bachmann?
Yes, I'm sure Foster would post similar stats for those games as he's really not had much to do...that's 2 games now that Bachmann hasn't had a shot on target to deal with!
I really don't get the clamour to ditch Foster, because despite his age he is still one of, if not, the best keeper in The Championship. I know we will need to replace him soon, because time waits for no man, but until the day comes that he is no longer doing the business I am more than happy with him being our No1. Hopefully we already have his eventual replacement in Dahlberg, but even if or when he is ready to step into Bens shoes I would still probably keep Big Ben on the books as 2nd or even 3rd choice keeper until he is ready to retire.
Has anyone seen Dahlberg play? I ask because a lot of people are quick to suggest that neither Foster nor Bachmann would be their preference next season. In the case of Foster, he's not getting any younger and it could be that his mind is on other things more, and Bachmann has shown to be a perfectly able understudy but his flaws suggest he wouldn't be an ideal number 1 keeper.
Dahlberg has looked one of the best keepers in the League, with stats to back it up. He has 2 years left on his contract after this year so we need to decide if we extend it or sell him this Summer else his value is gone and he has a stronger bargaining position.
Foster has been solid but isn't getting any younger, the jury seems out on Bachmann's viability as a long term starter, and I'm not sure how people are so convinced Dahlberg should be our number 1 given he has zero experience playing in England. I'm pretty sure if we do get promoted the club will be looking at buying a new goalkeeper.
Best exercise is with those large padded mats coaches have to train them to catch under pressure. Can also be a game time related issue. You can train all you like, but it doesn't replicate actual match situations or perhaps more accurately match nerves where you'll likely be overly cautious. He seems to struggle with players blocking him when he needs to come out. Lacks an ability to get past.
Called up to the Austria squad for their games away against Scotland, and at home to the Faroe Islands and Denmark. First of all, massive congratulations to him, think it's his first call-up for a good while and I hope he gets a first cap. Secondly, Austria isn't on the red list is it?
