I like the Apprentice Seer too. Aka back up seer.

 

That kinda makes sense given there are back-up wolves. Not sure how much it will affect the overall balance of the game though.

 

Most games already get a back up seer. It's not usually predetermined or named "apprentice" I don't think but randomly selected from the remaining ordinary villagers if the original seer gets killed early on to keep the game ticking over.

 

In the past I've killed off non voters quickly, but sometimes there are genuine reasons so you have to be a bit flexible. Twice and it's a definite death, a nasty one as well.
If someone's a really active player then that helps get them a one time pass.

 

I'll definitely have an apprentice Seer, balanced by a full moon. As with Otters game, he gave evil every chance without tipping the game. It's nice to have the tools available to balance the game up a little, the goal as a moderator is to get to the final day with things still well balanced.
Backups are much less likely to be invoked the longer the game goes on.
Doesn't happen often.

 

Will the apprentice seer be told at the start of the game?

It'd be interesting to know how their game play would be knowing they may be called on vs a back up seer who just plays the game as a basic villager and then has to change style if changed.

Prefer the games where all the roles are known upfront as it makes them more of a pure game of logic. Having secret roles that are only revealed during the course of the game just turns it into a lottery.

Another possible role.

Black Wolf: Regular wolf with the ability to mute 1 player for the next days play. Can only be applied once per player.

 

Can they still vote? I'm not entirely sold on that idea - it increases the odds of people not getting much chance to enjoy playing the game.

 

Possession wolf. For one day the wolf gets to possess another villager taking their username and posting all they like.

 

Not sure how it would be feasible in practice, but a fun idea.

Agree that super wolf sounds too difficult for team good.

 

Role reversal moon.

See becomes alpha wolf and alpha wolf becomes seer! No previous knowledge would be shared.

Would screw both teams up.

 

How about a Susie Wolff ? Death by a night of red hot passion....

 

I like the devil. The super wolf is a bit rubbish. Makes a lot of the potential strategy redundant.

 

Think it would ruin it if the wolf actually knew things. A massive part of the game is the bluffing that the Alpha has to go through. If they knew what they were writing was true then it shifts the whole dynamic and makes it far easier for Team Evil.

Having said that, other than once where I was the harlot, I've only ever been a humble villager so maybe it's not that bad an idea to have more special roles...

Official game roles & rules will be announced this evening but I'm still leaning towards old school with a very minor tweak.
Player assigned roles will be completely random based on a number generator which I'll show you all later.
If all goes well then you will have your role later tonight with Tuesday spent in the tavern discussing your village occupation pre game.

OK, here are the rules & roles that I'll be assigning to this game.

Alpha Wolf: Is able to post one anonymous message per day and make 1 kill per night.
Beta Wolf: Is able to make 1 kill per night - If the Alpha dies they will be promoted.
Wolf Cub: In the event of a Wolf death one player will become the Beta Wolf via a Full Moon event. They will be randomly chosen from a pool of villagers that hasn't been Seer viewed.
Traitor: Will know the identities of the Wolves and will be told the identity of the Cub if applied.
Seer: One viewing and one anonymous message per day.
Apprentice Seer: Backup to the Seer if the Seer dies. They will know this is their role. If activated I will pass on all the Seers views.
Tinker: A normal "good" villager who shows as evil if viewed.
Mason: Villagers, there are 3 of these, but they know each others identities. One day this role will come good, we have to keep trying.
Villager: Everyone else is a good old villager who's just trying to stay alive to the end.

There are no hidden roles that I haven't told you about, (but there is a very small addition to the above that I'll reveal before the game due to the date). There will be no clues given in any of the write-ups so take them as you read them. If a wolf or seer die very late in the game I may not invoke the backup. It's hard to put an exact moment on when they can't become live so you'll have to trust me on that one. I will let you know if I activate them.

I'm sure something un-forseen will occur but common sense will dictate the action required. Non participants/non voters will die horribly unless a bl**dy good excuse is given.

@The undeniable truth , if you would like a list of every player and their role so you can watch from a godlike position I will send this to you. I only offer this service to Covid-19 sufferers.

We could contemporise the game and change the Wolf to a Covid 19 super spreader, the seer is head of NHS or govenremtn, the traitor is a rogue doctor who wants to decimate society, the rest of us just **** scared citizens trying to stay alive.

 

@Diamond , re the wolf cub it makes it more intriguing if the cub can come from those the seer has viewed previously.
