He hasn't played much for Mirandes this season, but was there last season and scored 11 goals for them as they won promotion. Has spent 5 years in Spain now so should have his Spanish passport. Could be one for if we go down.

 

Let's hope he doesn't end up like his great Telamonian namesake.

Nah we'll just reuse the Forestieri one again like with Pereyra and Masina. It's the 1881's ambition to have a whole team of players with one chant.

 

Matheus Aias has rarely started for Mirandés in the Segunda Liga so he has scored only two goals in the Segunda Liga. However, he has usually started for Mirandés in the Copa del Rey and he has scored 6 goals during their run to the semi-final. 5 of these goals have been against La Liga sides.

 

Similar to cup competitions here I doubt the La Liga sides have been fielding their strongest teams for their cup matches against lower league opposition.

If this guy was really all that then he would surely have been starting for them more in the league, as it is he has made only 4 league starts for them,

Luis Suarez is the one out of our South American loanees I most want to see play for us, if possible.

Matheus Aias started for Mirandés in the Segunda Liga yesterday evening because Maranhão was suspended. He scored the equalizer in a 1-1 draw with Zaragoza. He has now scored 9 goals (3 in the Segunda Liga and 6 in the Copa del Rey) and not 8 as reported in the Watford Observer. Luis Suárez (who has scored 15 goals in the Segunda Liga) did not play for Zaragoza last night because he was injured. Both young strikers are Watford loanees.

 

We should bring them back, as we desperately need decent goal scorers.

 

Yes. Anyone who can score a reasonable number of goals in the second division in Spain will tear up this league.

There is a big gap in quality between the Segunda Liga and the Premier League, but some players can successfully make the transition. For example, Ayoze Pérez did well when he moved to Newcastle.

 

My point was in response to the observation that we should "bring them back as we need a goalscorer".
It's a hell of a jump and they are just promising prospects at present, a season or two away from being ready for the prem (Aias isn't even a first team regular yet I believe?).
Perez eventually did well but had a very slow start at NUFC.

 

And ask them if they know any?

 

Ayoze Pérez has never been a prolific goal scorer, but he scored 7 goals in the Premier League in his first season (36 appearances) at Newcastle. I do not know how many times that he actually started games during those 36 appearances.

 

Matheus Aias scored two minutes after coming on as a substitute in the 72nd minute. His goal put Mirandés in the lead, but they eventually lost the away game 2-3 when Extremadura scored in the 91st minute.

Not the best finish really, but still, one has to wonder what he has to do to warrant a starting place for them, seems a bit harsh for him to be so often on the bench given his record when called upon. Perhaps him just being on loan means they're more reluctant to play him over one of their own forwards?

 

Matheus Aias was a substitute for Mirandés, but was brought on in the 72nd minute again (as in the last game) against fifth-placed Girona in the Segunda División. He scored the equalizer (a penalty) eleven minutes later in a 1-1 draw.
