Great teams & great players measure themselves against themselves.

It is astonishing that Barca have sustained their performance so long.

The unusual thing is that teams often win the CL towards the end of their cycle. The experience factor. Time to rebuild? Time for Guardiola to return?

Come on people let’s not start massaging Liverpool’s ego. They get enough exposure in the media without this forum joining in.

There’s going to be enough plastic Liverpool fans jizzing themselves by the water coolers today. People who usually have no interest in football just trying to get into conversations about something currently ‘exciting’ and ‘amazing’.

    ‘Ooh, Klopp’s great isn’t he?’

Look buddy, we’ve never spoken before, this match hasn’t united us in a common interest, let me tell you that Liverpool aren’t my team, I didn’t watch it and have no interest in it, go bore someone else.

Fck it I’m staying home today.

Messi is the best player to every play football now. LOL. He's not even the best player of his era.

A coward who lacks the stones to leave his comfort blanket and prove himself elsewhere.

Ronaldo is a champion wherever he goes. Messi is shyte whenever Barcelona isn't there to hold his hand. See his Argentina performances for further details.

When the going gets tough, the messi goes into hiding.

A nice flashy player when surrounded by good players but lacks character and panache.

Another example of Messi fading to nothing when it matters. Normally everything is in his favour. As soon as it isn’t he vanishes. Great to watch but a flat track bully.

It will be slightly amusing that Liverpool, desperately wanting to win the league for the first time in a million years, will have to make do with the champs league. Meanwhile, Citeh, desperately wanting to win the champs league for the first time, will have to make do with retaining the league.....and beaten finalists in the FA cup.

Not sure why all the Messi hate is coming through. He may or may not be the best player ever but he is certainly up there. But a player is only as good as their team and can only do so much on their own. If the team don't perform (eg. poor tactics, complacency) their star is usually unable to perform miracles.

Rather than the hate for Messi and the hope that Liverpool get stuffed in the final, let's just enjoy arguably the greatest ever European Cup comeback of all time. I'm a Watford fan but I'm also a fan of football. Last night was brilliant!

Nope, you’re giving him too much credit. Ronaldo would at least have made an effort to pull that match back, even if he had ended up getting sent off. I don’t recall hearing Messi’s name at all in the last five minutes or so when Barca were ineffectually trying to attack - so much so that I wondered if he had been substituted and I had missed it, until the camera panned to him.

I agree with your second paragraph.

Messi gets hate for the same reason 'pep' does. They've only achieved things when everything is entirely stacked in their favour. Yet whoppers like you get on your knees and fellate them hungrily.

Which is why history will judge Ronaldo and mourinho more favourably.

People are having less sex today is a big story in the papers today.

Maybe Klopp & this water cooler frottage is the explanation.

He was doing that thing where he raises his open palmed hand, count 1, 2, 3, & then he slaps his thigh.

    But with both hands simultaneously!

    Menacing & sexualised.

No wonder poor Robbie Fowler had tears in his eyes.

Lord knows what was happening during the ad break.

The greatest players impose themselves on matches with sheer force to of will.

They tower above their opponents to score.

Maradona against us, Pele against everyone in 1970, Henry in the last match at Highbury, Deeney in the semi final.

Well, it's always an ongoing process. We are not as good as we were under Pep for sure, but it's far from a disaster.

Our CL record since 05-06 is: Winners, Round of 16, SF, Winners, SF, Winners, SF, SF, QF, Winners, QF, QF, QF, SF.

Last night, even though it was another spectacular collapse, we were just one away goal from going through. We had chances to get it too. Had we nicked the away goal, it would have been a hard luck story for Liverpool, but Barca would be in yet another final. Those are the fine lines between success and failure.

Don’t be hysterical - it’s not “hate”. I like watching Messi pulverise the minnows but it’s fair game pointing out his shortcomings. Let’s face it, most of the time he gets talked about in the media like he is a God so a bit a criticism is okay without people classing it as “hate”.

Well I hope 'Marty Mullens' the 'joker' fan who dumped the coke vendor into the fountain in Barca, was banned from that game.

Would be the best punishment he can try to live with.

Surely he should be permanently detained within Anfield to minimise the risk to society at large.

Madrid would probably sack the manager if they lost like this twice in 2 seasons - will Barca despite winning the league?

Must admit I did think Barca would score and they had chances in the 1st half but once the 2nd Liverpool goal went in the game was one way traffic till the end.

I am not disputing that Messi is a brilliant player.
What irks me most is the constant assertion that he is the best ever,
I have the same feeling regarding Federer but at least he has a record number of titles, albeit that Laver was denied twenty major title chances when he was a pro,so the debate is unbalanced in favour of RF.
    Pele won three world cups,Maradona single handedly,sorry,won the '86 cup,The Kaiser,Cruyff.Puskas etc.
I suppose it is a modern failing to think present is perfect.
I'm off to put on my Suzanne Lenglen outfit and motor down to Monte!

Liverpool were the better team for large parts of the first leg and Messi was largely kept quiet. Anyone could have scored Messi's first. As for the second, I see your Messi and I raise you Richard Johnson.

But you can't do that to all scousers deemed a risk ? It would be quicker to just put a Mexican wall round Liverpool.

Messi might have sold the most shirts.

I think this is the modern equivalent of titles.
