Not really WFC's Golden Years, but of that era. Does anyone remember a charity game at Woodside around this time? IIRC Suzi Quatro kicked off. I don't mean she got upset, she actually took the kick off. Tony Blackburn def there too. But who else?
I don’t, I’m afraid. The departure of Furphy & Scullion to Sheffield coincided more or less with the arrival of David Bowie from the outer Cosmos. The latter seemed more exciting. My yellow ardour hibernated for a couple of years until a moped brought the freedom of the open road (ie the A41). Happily, that was in 1977.
I admired those. It was a Honda SS50. Top speed on the flat about 33. The number of times I fell off that thing when I took a Barry Sheen corner. Anyway, independence. Timely, too, as I would taken possession of this monster a mere couple of weeks after GT took possession of WFC.
You probably passed me on my Raleigh Racer. Yes, i cycled a few times in my youth from Aylesbury to Vicarage Road when i couldnt afford the bus fare.. or just for for the hell of it, Cant remember which. Tell the kids that today.. and they wont believe you
I remember it, I was about 9 years old tripped over and was picked up by Suzi Quatro, still haven't washed my hand ;-) Think I have a program it was Watford v Jess Conrad All Stars XI I think...? That defo takes me back!
Brilliant! IIRC Tony Blackburn dropped his shorts somewhere around the halfway line. DLT was there and ‘Diddy’ David Hamilton. Suzi Quatro was a goddess. You lucky lad.
Major A41 manoeuvre. If a tv producer approached me with a project for a documentary on my favourite road, it would be the A41. Just putting it out there.
In the weirdly circular pattern of this thread, Blockbuster riff is almost identical to that of Jean Genie, the direct reason for my sabbatical from the Vic. Kirby could not compete.
Get your kicks on route A-4-1! Reckon ive travelled half way to the moon on that road. btw Hammer House of Horror filmed some scenes up and down the A41. Like this tv episode for instance.. http://www.hammerhouseofhorrortvseries.co.uk/hhlocbourneend.html Got a feeling the same was true of Tales of The Unexpected.
Wowsers! That’s the very game. I didn’t remember ‘nice one’ Cyril being the ref, but it comes flooding back. Many thanks!
I remember Suzi Quattro kicked the game off by punting the ball straight down the middle of the pitch..I shouted HOOF! But it didn't catch on for some years DLT played the music at half time, I went on a date with a girl from Joan of ark , Diedre something or other. That didn't last.
Sorry no although now Bloke has mentioned what Suzi did at kick off that did bring back a slight recollection. Old age and maybe nearly 1,500 games seen over what 50 years dulls the memory. Here's the inside with the team for radio 1
A slight (!?) tangent again but did anyone else attend the footballing summer camps run by WFC at Woodside in the 70s as a kid. I did the one in 78 - I was hopeless all week but we did get free tickets to see Wolves in a pre-season friendly which seemed a huge* game in those days so that made it all worth while. *we'd yet to announce ourselves on the world stage with Luther's headers at Old Trafford a few months later.
With a bit of fast talking, you might be able to use it at Molineux for the next game. Thumb over date recommended.
