What is the official rule in pool ? I have never read it anywhere in this country that you only get one shot on the black after a foul ? I think in the states you get one shot but can put the cue ball anywhere ?
Different regional leagues often have their own rules ... Growing up on the Isle of Man it was always two shots, no carry and nominate the black (but not have to stick to the pocket). However, having played in various pubs across England these three particular rules often differed and you'd be a fool not to ask a local before challenging him. Rules vary wildly from country to country too and American Pool is nothing like ours, for one thing they usually play the numbers ... avoid it and just remember that they think Netball and Rounders are sports, they even pad-up for their "American" rugby.
This is what I don't get, I can get different rules in the states, but each pub seems to have different rules, there must be standard rules in one country but everyone seems to play different rules. Not being able to shoot up table when the white goes down? Be able to legally pot the oppos ball when you have two shots, No other sport has so many different rules
You're right on that. Not many pool tables in Hemel have a D now. The pool league in Hemel allows two shots on the black (even if carried) and you have to nominate the pocket.
If it's just the black on the table, 1 shot. If you are on the black and there's other balls left for your opponent, 2 shots.
There are so many official variations it's best to check with your opponent and agree in advance. Generally. 2 shots off a foul. If you pot straight away you, lose the second shot. "no carries" or you can pick the white up and place where you like, but only get one shot. After a foul it is a free ball. you can opt to pot your opponent's ball then continue on with yours if you so wish. Usefull if he's covering a pocket. Normally it's one shot on the black, sometimes you need to nominate the pocket. If the table has a D then a pocketed white needs to go back in the D. If there is only a line then the white can go anywhere behind but must be played down the table. If you get 7 balled (Your opponent pots all of theirs and the black before you have potted a ball) then you need to pull your trousers down and run round the table.
2 shots, anywhere in the D if the white has gone in the pocket, otherwise where the white stops, nominated pocket
