Keri Ann Payne came 4th in the Open water swim..not the best of Olympics for the swimming team considering most of the other sports have achieved more than expected.

Terrible from swimming when you look at their funding. They get the 2nd biggest budget after cycling.

Heads should roll at GB swimming. Pathetic showing.

It's getting boring now, surely we should let some of the other countries win some of the events?

To be fair, you do live in the US...we want to see our competitors. It makes sense to me. If I could delete all the filler stories ("he came from a small town in Iowa") and see ALL the events, I would be happier though.

But how about that Team GB? Just racking up the medals! There was a lot of English gloom and doom on Day one, but with all this success, may the gloommeisters stay in their dark corners....

I've watched hundreds of hours of Olympics this past two weeks and I've loved it, but I'm just starting to get Olympic fatigue. However, once it's all over, I will miss it. It's been a great time for this country.

Sickening really. It's one think to focus on a particular country to meet national interests, but to completely ignore the rest? Really? A rethink of the way the Olympics are broadcast over there & the syllabus of geography in US schools would be greatly beneficial.

Oh I fully understand the desire to see the US athletes compete, but I want to see coverage of all the events, not relentless coverage of water polo and beach volleyball. Maybe I'm just missing it, but there doesn't seem to have been hardly a moments coverage of the track events. It wasn't a disappointment that they've not covered the GB successes as such, it's that they've seemingly pretty much ignored 70% of the actual events, regardless of who won the medals.

Jade Jones is only 19 too. Another gold in a discipline that we've never got before. Fantastic stuff. Likewise is the individual dressage where we've won GOLD and BRONZE today.

I think there may be a little bit of exaggerating here.

Today, while working one of the busiest days I've had in years, I watched Norway play Korea in Handball, Japan play Brazil in Volleyball, some Chinese, Mexican, Canadian and Aussie girls dive, some Kenyan dudes running medium distances for gold, some Jamaican and other various Carribean islanders run short distances, some Czech and German ladies throwing things, some various Eastern European long jumpers and skippers jumping, and some god awful BMX racing with god knows what country's pothead douchebags on little bikes... I also saw some of the USA vs Korea volleyball and the last event of the Decathlon where the USA got silver and gold, but none of the other nine events they competed in...I didn't even get to see the USA win gold in soccer which is the only US event I actually would choose to watch given a chance.

So, it's not all USA, though assuredly each US winner is shown at some point.

But to your point, Cheeky, many middle Americans just don't care where all the other countries are because they will never go there unless there is oil there and a war breaks out.

That's great that so many events were aired. Thumbs up there.

I don't intend to start an argument, or offend you in any way, but the bit in bold is exactly what's wrong with the USA.

To be fair to Fitz, he's from LA, which along with the East Coast is one of the few 1st world parts of the USA. The middle part is really not their fault or their responsibility and they'd all rather we forget it was there.

Can we make it past 60 medals? We're on 55 (I think) including the bronze for hockey.

I think we are on 58 already, because we are guaranteed 3 more boxing medals; though we don't know what colour they will be yet! 1 is at least a silver and two are at least a bronze, though all 3 could yet be Gold!

I took it in the spirit intended. Believe me, I am a more strident critic of what we are than most people I know, on any side of any ocean.

By the way I am watching Synchro Swimming now. All Russian, Chinese and Spanish..

What's not to love?! You live in a state that makes Everclear margaritas!!!

You're probably right that the only reason NBC are showing this stuff now is that people finally got Oly fever and will watch a gang of East German lady coal miners throw hammers or some Kazakhs and Uzbekis rub up on each in a wrassling ring to get their fix.

To be honest, we're just as bad for only showing British Olympians over here. For example, when they showed the Heptathlon every second of the three British girls' events were shown as well as 2 or 3 of the other top athletes, then skipped through the rest quickly. Or if there is something like the Handball Semi-final on at the same time as the preliminaries of Tom Daley falling off a platform, they will show Tom Daley. I think every country focuses on their own team, because that's what the majority of the country want to see, to single USA out for that is a little unfair. Obviously this is for the BBC programmes and not the 24 channels showing it!

    Back to mocking America though:

My housemates from Australia and South Africa had a grumble at me about the BBC and the way the main programmes jump around to show British interest (we only have freeview). It seems perfectly natural for a tv station/press to focus on the country they are based in so on this occasion i'm not going to have a go at American TV for doing it.

In the past couple of days i've been able to see finals from other nations (handball/water polo etc), but on the whole I want to see GB whatever the event is! In the preliminary rounds i wouldn't have been particularly bothered about seeing anyone else on tv unless it had a direct impact on a GB athlete/team
