Talk about selling yer soul. Why do football clubs need so much money ? This was never the case back in the day. Is this sposed to be progression ? Cos if it you can keep it, Id rather be skint. Im glad I support a club with no money, who hav to beg borrow n steal players, Christ we've only got 3 stands cos ones been condemned by the council. Foreign investment be damned.......youre welcome to it.

They could put a great big blue dragon on the front of the shirts as well.

If it was us in this situation I would be going absolutely mental. A bunch of Johnny Foreigner types coming in with no knowledge of our football club's traditions and history and changing our colours as it's the new owner's favourite colour and is considered to be lucky in South East Asia and therefore more marketable there. What's it got to do with South East Asia? **** off you *****!

As an afterthought how can they bring in £100 million worth of investment with the new FFP rules?

FFP doesn't block investment in certain areas, such as youth development/facilities. I don't think it blocks a new owner from paying off existing debt, either, which Cardiff have in spades.

Actualy the main reason for changing to red is because they want the club to be seen as representing Wales. They want them to play on their Welshness.

Like most people here i was at first stupefied at the idea of this happening.. but having read a little about it i'm not sure its such a big deal. As stated plenty of football clubs have over the years played around with kit colours. Added to this club badges are being changed regularly these days. So these two things for a £100M investment? mmmmmmmm..

Whats more worrying for me is that this might be the first step into 're-branding' for all. You know what the football world is like.. one leads and all follows.. and once it becomes the norm we will see more and more exaggerated versions.

I disagree with you there, that is what their spokesperson is spinning it as but all the early stuff that came out in the media a few weeks ago before this went through was about a more marketable product in South East Asia due to red being seen as a lucky colour and the new owner's personal favourite.

Cardiff won the FA Cup in 1927 wearing blue so it's not like they don't have a history wearing it or that they need to forge an identity for themselves.

Stevo - I'm pretty sure the owners have said they are changing to red as it's a more marketable colour in Asia. If I find where (I think!) they said it, I will post the link here!

Hi Stevo, I've been fairly close to this as I'm friends with a few Cardiff supporters - Tan has definitely gone for red because he sees it as a lucky colour. They want to break the Eastern market and believe they can do it with their Mayasian connection. A number of their fans think they'll end up as one of the biggest clubs in the country.

Personally I think they're heading for a massive fall that'll make the Pompey situation look like a tea-party.

There's already a Welsh team that play in red and are called The Dragons. Wrexham.

They have mate.. not denying it.. but they are also talking about the fact that Cardiff is the Welsh capital and they wanted to promote the club's Welshness*

Could it not be both things? I mean the world isnt black or white.. or blue or red!

*Not suggesting this is a good idea.. just what they are saying (spin or not)

I'm not denying that they are playing up the welsh angle, I've seen a few articles as to the main reason why they have changed it.

...and when the club doesn't take off in Malaysia and the owners get bored?

Wales/Malaysia. Cant see the big link myself. Seems like picking two, random, unassociated countries and hoping that will work, somehow, and even if it does work, why? It is hardly as if Malaysia IS china or anywhere big.

Man Utd and Liverpool are sucessful and popular abroad due to their continued history / success and high profile over here/Europe.

Even if Cardiff make it into the premier league, and break it into the top 6, and stay there for a year or so, they still wont take off in precious malaysia; and those are all big ifs.

As business plans go Im reminded of the gnomes on south park:

Phase 1: collect underpants / link indebted welsh, second tier, team, with fat scots manager, with Malaysia
    Phase 2: ?
    Phase 3: Profit!

I hope they do a Portsmouth. Cardiff: if you tolerate this then your children will be next

Actually it is Puma who are re-branding themselves , they are chasing Nike and need more exposure.

In all seriousness it might not stop at kit colour.

Asians (especially Chinese) have really strong feelings about numbers - so squad numbers could change. I can't recall all the concerns but 8 is lucky 4 and 49 are very unlucky.

It affects other things too. Generally they like to start new business ventures on 8th of the month.

Europeans may find this droll but it is taken VERY seriously.

It is Ron. But it is all a lot of superstitious nonsense.

I actually do feel for the genuine Cardiff fans who have seen their history discarded by yet another bunch of non football money men.

Malky of course being the soulless mercenary he is couldn't care less. Probably off to Malaysia on a junket with Cardiff scheduled to play the Malaysian Select XI or some other nonsense too.

As for red being a winning colour. Let's take a look at the World Cup winners. Apart from them and England, Uruguay play in blue, Argentina in blue and white, Brazil in yellow, Germany in white, France and Italy in blue.

So that's two wins against eighteen. And in other leagues it really makes a difference........ No of course it doesn't. Superstition ,numerology, astrology , pseduo science and religion belong in the dark ages.

    You're not wrong there..

Had it not been for a row the Dassler brothers had about a bomb shelter Puma would not now be around to supply our kit.
Both brothers were nazi sympathisers by the way. I wonder how many Addidas/Puma wearing hip hop kids know that!

I don't think the word "sympathiser" is needed. They were both card carrying Nazis.

it was just the way i read it, as though you were suggesting perhaps its immoral to wear their brand because of that. as i said just the way i read it, but thats how i interpreted it. no hard feelings i hope.

It wasnt meant to say anything about the morals of there being a nazi connection.. i was just wondering if people were aware of it. My guess would be that not many people would be.
