What a night of NFL. I am so happy that RG3 not only lived up the hype, but surpassed it, I can't believe the Colts ignored what he did at Baylor and went for the seemingly hapless Luck. Even more happy my two teams won, albeit the Lions just. The running game from us was far better than I expected. As for the Texans, I couldn't look past a win and it came pretty convincingly, can only imagine how good this side would be with an 'elite' quarterback.
I'm trying to decide a good team to support. I like the redskins logo, and could they be underdogs for the playoffs/Super Bowl with Rg3? Might be them.
I think they'll get to the playoffs, but defense wins championships and i'm not sure they have anywhere near enough quality to here challenge, but don't get me wrong, the playoffs would be an incredible achievment for them. The Lions are a nice story, I'd go with them, probably the best wide receiver of all time, along with a promising young QB. Newton could do big things at the Panthers this year too.

Also, did anyone else watch Monday Night Football this week on the BBC? Absolutely hideous coverage. I know the games weren't up to much, but I was so bored I ended falling asleep during the Raiders - Chargers first half. No presenter, no analysis, just the ESPN feed and then some graphics during the breaks and half time. Pathetic.
it was on the beeb? i was looking through the scheds but didn't think to look at bbc. the important thing is that nat and mike are back together. thought i'd give you a bit of a headstart in the pickems. i hadnt read a word about football since february so didn't have a clue what was going on. i'm down with it now, so you should be afraid.
Red Button and Online every monday. I doubt I'll make much of an effort to stay up for it now though unless the game is particularly interesting.
Boo! I thought the Ravens were going to beat the Eagles for sure! Not to make excuses because they are affecting everyone, but this ref situation is getting cray cray.

Okay, so who thought the Titans would beat the Lions in a 44-41 shoot-out, shortest touchdown play of 61 yards and score both a punt return and a kick return? Not me!
Fitz, I meant to say, that guy who's in some of your photos on Facebook? I'm sure I sat next to him on Saturday!
That would be TVOR's boy Tombo, I think. SM#16? Who are you now? Name changes confoozle the hell outta me. As for the Arizona Cardinals at 3-0...is this for real? Seriously? What the eff?
A horrible week for the pick em, still clinging on to second somehow (alphabet?) Only one point in it. In BBC coverage news, because the contract was sorted so late they will be getting a studio team in for their coverage in the near future, may even be this week. The horrible graphics and music was purely down to how late they organised the contract.
So Seahawks win, and my pick em is ok because of that. And that's about all that was positive about that game. Is that the worst officiating decision is the history of sport?
Having a terrible time with Pick 'Em. Fantasy is going the other way though, sitting at 3-0. Classic tactical error taking Jamaal Charles out of my line up the weekend that he goes and picks up 233 yards and a TD. Still picked up the win, but I've learned my lesson.
Horrible NFL week, and Pick-em week, Luckily Tom Brady decided to throw the ball to Wes Welker, so my fantasy game was saved
I think with all that has happened and with all due respect to the college refs I'm more surprised that more of these incidents has not happened in the 3 weeks so far. You can bet anything that more of these incidents will happen if those particular refs are used in the weeks to come. Honestly I don't know which one was more cringeworthy- the two refs giving contradictory decisions at the same time or the bad call altogether?

One of the things the ref controversy is doing a great job of is exposing the intrinsic flaws in the NFL game. Delays and pauses are being multiplied by all the challenges and they were bad to begin with. There is something like 12 minutes of time actually being used to run plays during the 60 minutes of game time, which gets spread out across nearly four hours on average of real time. That is excruciating. It is completely ridiculous from an objective viewpoint. The reffing is adding to that this season. They look like boobs along the way to delaying the game additional minutes. It makes the 'Delay of Game' penalty seem like a joke. This game has become a house of cards and people don't even notice it yet. It makes so much friggin money that no one is interested in changing it. Truly a weird spectacle. If I was new to the sport, I might never make it past the first game to become a fan. I grew up watching it, so I guess I am past that point now...
I am relatively new to the sport having only started watching it last year. Never have fully watched one game and don't intend to because the time taken up in watching a whole game on telly/computer could easily be spent on a whole number of more important activities. I think Americans like you are in a unique position as well because you're used to watching both sports and so ultimately as much as you complain you're used to it. I'm amazed at how the shorter forms of cricket haven't worked across the pond yet though, with 20/20 games lasting roughly 3-4 hours with much more flair IMO.
Looks like magically the referee lockout is over...stupid NFL. Thank the fan insurrection that was brewing for the quick resolution. Interesting perspective! Cricket, hmmm... What does cricket, even a 3-4 hour version (which is still really long) offer over baseball? Baseball is dying among young players and fans but is still really strong with the 35-65 year old range. It would need to either find new eyeballs who are already watching basketball, football, hockey and soccer, or compete head to head and convert those baseball eyeballs. The niche soccer created for itself here doesn't exist for a baseball-like game.
Just like Lawrence Tynes my team is coming up short. :dismay: But The Lawrence times miss made me happy soo woo!
