Before anyone says so, yes i know its scripted. I was just wondering if anyone on the forum follows wrestling in any way?

Some good young talent at the moment contracted with the WWE, whilst I hear old favourite Batista is looking to try his hand at MMA (Mixed Martial Arts).

No. Since the days of The Rock and Stone Cold left its been shyte. It was ok for a few years after that but now it's completely terrible.

thanks for your informative comment, you know you dont have to reply to everything :forehead:

so if you have nothing to contribute, then dont.

i agree that the days of the attitude era were brilliant. personally was not a big fan of stone cold, always preferred shawn michaels and hhh.

the rock was great, 'can you smell what the rock is cooking.'

Yeah I wasn't a big fan of Stone Cold either but the ongoing feud between him and The Rock was brilliant. I put it on a couple of months ago and it's just cringe worthy now.

I stopped watching it a few years back, but allways kept and eye out on the big results. At work there are a few fans of wwe, and they have got me back into it. I know its scripted but so is eastenders and just about every other tv show. I'm looking forward to summerslam but i would never be ripped off and pay to watch it on sky box office.

i still watch it, big Orton fan, yeah everyone hates him, which is fine by me. its just something differnt to watch on tv, and i find it rather entertaining :D

Yes I do. I consider it a blokes soap opera with a bit of choreographed acrobatics. Sometimes it's good to disengage your brain and just be entertained. I can understand people looking down their nose at it but also find it funny when grow adults beleive it's real and the wrestlers are not acting.

Saying that, the WWE has gone way downhill in the last few years. Their switch to PG and pandering to kids has pretty much ruined it. I generally record it and then fast forward through a lot. The whole Kane/Undertaker story and "Dashing" Cody Rhodes promos are just painful to watch.

I saw it live when they came over about 8 years ago and they do know how to put on a show, some of the stuff the lucha libre style wrestlers do is incredible.

If you've got Bravo, have a look at TNA, Saturday nights 9:00. It's a bit more adult, they've not banned blading and have a good mix of veteran household names like Jeff Hardy and RVD as well as new up and coming talents. They have a decent tag team division and women who actually wrestle rather than just turn up for eye candy. A fair selection of British wrestlers as well.

If you're holidaying in Florida and go to Universal Studios you can go in and watch it for free as well.:sign15: Went to see their second top pay per view in 07, if you buy the DVD you can see me in the crowd:biggrin:

Think it's repeated tonight on Bravo 2, they just did an ECW revival and theres a whole invasion story line also there's a tag team champ match which is the best I've seen in a good few months.

    TNA, TNA!

Mindless entertainment. Its great to watch when you want to **** out and think about nothing.

Its got a bit gay recently though. Hulk Hogan has turned up and its turned into a bit of an WWF old boys club.

Still, better than WWE, which is aimed at primary school kids and is advertised heavily in the Beano and Dandy which my little brother gets every week. Its not quite as hardcore as it used to be, but its still sufficiently bloody and violent to keep the man factor up enough to feel like you aren't watching something aimed at kids.

    Mr Anderson makes me laugh.

Yep he's bloody good on the mic.

Liked Jay Lethal's Ric Flair impressions as well

How good was the 2/3 Tag tiles match last night:sign15:

Motor City Machine Guns are insanely good. They do obscene things. What happened to Hernandez? He is a bloody tank!

I hate the whole Ric Flair storyline. He is too old to be doing anything, and has clearly only got in there because of the Hogan connection. He is 61, he shouldn't be thrown from somebody's shoulders, he will die in the ring!

They sent him to Mexico for a few months to get in shape.

Ric can still work the mic and reportedly needs the money but agreed he shouldn't be in the ring anymore.

I used to love it as a bit of silly entertainment, like Meister says, soap opera for blokes.

It became ridiculous though and there's only a limited amount of storylines, most of which are hugely unimaginative and several of which end up going nowhere. I hate the whole McMahon family and abhor the way that the stars of WWE are pretty much disposable assets of the company. Looking at the early deaths of so many of their stars in recent years, one can see that this is something which no civilised society would tolerate.

As an entertainment, it's soiled by behind the scene politics, as only the wrestlers who are well connected ever get pushed and it's boring, beyond belief to see HHH and Orton endlessly pushed, simply because they know the right people.

It stopped being good when Rock left.

I hate Ric Flair. Still living off his status as a legend, but hasn't been able to sell a move for 20 years now.

I agree with the above it is soap opera for blokes. In eastenders you had the who killed archie storyline. In the WWE there is the question of who attached the undertaker, who is the mystery gm and who will be the 7th member in team raw at summerslam, will anyone from that team turn heel at summerslam, and will HHH or Undertaker return at summerslam.

  16. Optimistichornet

i did go through a spell of watching TNA, but found that although there are several brilliant wrestlers in there (jeff hardy, RVD and AJ Styles) that the storylines were lacking the depth of the wwe ones. also miss the 6 sided ring.

in wwe at the moment the nexus storyline has imo been quite good, and im curious to see who the 7th member of team cena will be. im also expecting a big twist somewhere in the night, as it would be a shame to see the nexus invasion angle finish after summerslam, although evidently something different needs to be done about it.

as for the wwe pushing certain wrestlers, there are certainly some young talents who could do with a push at the moment, as many of the main wrestlers are getting older now, i dont expect we will be seeing undertaker, HHH and the likes of edge, jericho and mysterio for many more years.

The Rock was a hero. I used to watch religiously during that era. As mentioned above, they lost it when they started aiming it at the primary school kids and cut out all the blood and swearing.

TNA can be entertaining just because of the risks they'll take and the carnage that can ensue, but it doesn't have the same feel as WWE did back in the day.

You're right. The arean is too small, and they tend to forget about storylines halfway through. They're getting better and looking to do more outside their area by the end of the year.

No idea, didn't have cable when I was a kid so didn't watch wrestling. Had Smackdown 2 though. That was a good game :O

WWE is absolutely awful now, it's aimed at 10 year olds, has hardly any big names left or people coming through that will ever be as big as those from the last 10-15 years and the story lines are pathetic. I used to like WWE up until about 2005 but it's absolutely bombed since then.

I do however still watch TNA, it may still be a small time company compared to WWE, but the roster is full of some true legends like Sting, RVD, Jeff Hardy, Kevin Nash, Jeff Jarrett, Kurt Angle, Mick Foley, The Dudley Boys, Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan (even though I can't stand him and Flair) and some fantastic young talents like AJ Styles, Desmond Wolfe, Matt Morgan, Amazing Red and Rob Terry amongst others, and the wrestling is far more serious and enjoyable and the story lines aren't so ridiculous.

Personally though I'll always miss the old WCW day, Goldberg, nWo, Wolfpac, DDP etc. those were the days. I suppose that's one of the reasons I like TNA, in a lot of ways it reminds me of WCW which was always my favourite.

so anyone have any reaction to summerslam. just watched the highlights now, but will try not to make any major spoilers.

surprise surprise at the ending, didnt see that one coming (sigh). still was pleasantly surprised with the 7th member of team wwe.

the majority of the matches were ok, and the kane vs. mysterio fight had a good twist.

yer thats the feeling i got. the big show vs straight edge was a non event, i reckon that perhaps the straight edge gimmick has run its course.

the divas match was barely worthwhile tbh, although it was nice to see melina back.

the kofi kingston vs dolph ziggler match was a complete waste of time as was the sheamus vs randy orton fight.

mysterio vs kane was good as expected, and the phenoms return was nicely done.

nexus vs wwe was quite a good match, however im left wishing that cenas role was less.

i also would quite like edge and jericho to get a bit of a push, jericho showed why 'he is the best in the world at what he does' in that match and the surprise no.7 also had some pretty good moves.

hell no. lol, streamed it this evening and then flicked through to watch the interesting bits.

i paid to watch wrestlemania this year (definately worth it, wish HBK was still around though) , but generally watch the others the next day or at a friends house, then its usually a group of us and works out at a quid each or something.

The Kane vs Mysterio match was really good and the ending with Kane giving undertaker a tombstone piledriver was great. Its good to finally see Kane do well.

I really wanted Nexus to win and am just hoping that tptb know what there doing. It was great to see someone tap out to the walls of jericho, i cant remember the last time that happen.

The only ppv i have paided for is wrestlemania all the others i watch online for free.

Kane is going to retire at the end of the year, his decent championship reign is a thank you for putting over all the newbies over the past few years.

Watched Raw today, a 2 hour show took about 30 mins for me to get through. It's getting worse and worse.

im not a big fan of Raw tbh. i dislike the guest host gimic and find the storytelling rather poor. however the nexus gimic went down well overall.

smackdown has always had slightly better content, although the stuff nowadays is nowhere near as credible as the 'good old days'.

kane has been a brilliant wrestler for many a year, always putting in the work to help the youngsters get across with the fans. it will be good to see him get some well deserved credit, although it seems weird to be retiring him as a heel character.

Kane was always better as a heel. I'm hoping he goes back to the old masked character but it's not going to happen.

That's when Kane was the man.

To be fair though wrestling as a whole is just a mess now, the WWE is a disgrace.
