I've only been to 4 of the last 7 away matches but I have been consistent since last summer in believing that Watford have got the players to be nearer the play-off places than the relegation slot and have posted regulary expressing that opinion. I think the initial poster is right - some Watford fans are incredibly fickle but just because football fans are fickle in general, doesn't make it right.
I prefer to look at our players/team as a whole....
On the positive side, I see hard workers, who are generally fit and comfortable on the ball, physically capable of looking after themselves and a good blend of youth and experience. I don't see a weak player (ability wise)nor one that is unlikely to improve with time. I havn't felt like that for many years.
On the negative side, our confidence has been low. The backdrop regarding Administration etc, will not have helped our performance on the field over the past couple of months. I also believe our movement off the ball is often poor and our imagination and options are lacking going forward.
However, these negatives relate to coaching, tactics and the state of mind - all of which can be sorted - and do not alter the fact that we have the good players necessary to move up the table.
If I am proved wrong at the end of the season, then I would expect to be ridiculed for these views, but I would take comfort in the fact that I would have felt positive throughout the year, rather than being full of gloom and doom.

If you don't like what I say then why mention it. We have won one match. Does that change everything? No it doesn't. Maybe I should point out the examples of Blackpool away and Peterborough away as examples of excellent away performances. Maybe when you look at the statistics, the only win that Mark Robins got when he was manager of P'boro was against us. Then we give away two goals in the space of six minutes, again costing us another 3 points that were very easily achievable for us. Maybe you will look back that what I say makes sense when the end of the season comes round. We are not a play off team, we are a mid-table team.

We were never going to get in the play offs and most sensible people will take a finish 4th or 5th from bottom, come on, most in the media was predicting us to be relegated this season.
Please don't get carried away by the win on Tuesday, Shef United were poor, especially in defence and made us look good. It is what makes the Championship good to watch is that virtually any team can beat anyone else and a team like Blackpool, similar in statue to us can be contenders if they have few injuries and money issues within a season.
We will not get relegated this season i am sure, but I would say a finish in the top half will be deemed very much a sucess and I doubt it will happen
|
Again, when have I criticised our home form this season? It is our away form that has constantly let us down this season. As I said above Blackpool and P'boro are the main examples of an embarrassing defeat for us this season. If we could tidy up our away form this season, we would be a comfortable top half of the table team. Look at Barnsley as an example of this. Their squad is not really any better than ours, they put together some decent results, and now sit 11th in the table, when they were one of the teams that looked certain to be relegated early on in the season.

Not too sure if its fair to bring that all up after yesterdays win. The team were on a bad run so obviously people were going to get annoyed. HRH went a tad over the top though, surprised he didn't use the "Malky out" phrase. I've been saying for a quite a while as have other users, we won't get promoted and we won't get relegated. 10th-14th position will be where we will finish I think. I'd like 10th so it would maybe put a bit of optimism for next seasons targets.

If people looked further into the thread, they will see that after my early rants, I said I had been over the top.

Personally I like the fact that we have people not afraid to give their views, even if it goes against the majority. Think how dull it would be if we all thought the same?

HRH
Calm down! calm down! When someone states something very strongly and it turns out to be so wrong, it can be amusing! Don't get too upset about it.
Just for the record,
After Blackpool you said "An absolute joke. We are goimg down to League 1 now, like it or not".
After Sheff U you said "We are a mid-table team".
It looks like you have changed your view after only one match. One more win against Barnsley and you'll be predicting an automatic promotion slot!

Exactly. No one would go on these boards if everyone always said "Come on Malky". etc

Agreed, but got the impression recently that I'm part of the 'minority' for supporting Malky, hence this thread. Sometimes (all the time) people are so negative on here i feel the need to be posotive to try and even it out a bit! I'd say largley this season has been a sucess so far, yet reading on here most weeks you'd think the club was at breaking point.

Well as I seem to be the only one on here who thinks that we have the ability to fight for a play-off place, I am definitely not on any bandwagon.
I agree with the original poster. After a win, there seems to be reasoned argument as to why we can be optomistic by a few, but after a loss, there is a tirade of abuse, gloom and doom. I think that is the "bandwagon" element.

We will be above 12th at the end......I would like to think that we could go on a mini run over the next 2 months and sneak up on the play-offs.
why not ? We've done it before....

Careful, you're in danger of creating a "bandwagon", that's two of us!
