    Default Football Punditry

    Just finished watching MotD2 Extra. Excellent as always. Expertly chaired my Mark Chapman. Other chairs (like Jake Humphrey) do a good job too.

    The players, ex-players and guest journalists are always good quality and offer real insight as well. Today it was Dean Saunders in the middle category. The only general criticism I'd make is that there's never anything about us on it. So what's new? Hardly surprising at the moment anyway though!

    So who do we all rate in the punditry and commentary stakes? Both from the playing, managing and journalism sides of the fences?

    I'll kick off. I reckon Troy's cameo performances are excellent. Honest, straightforward and entertaining ...

    Maybe. But they can't 'do' in this game if they'e over 36ish (or maybe 40ish for a goalie). They can then legitimately move on to other pastures and some of them are better at it than others.

    Agreed, the journos probably could never have done in the first place but again, as in all fields, some are much better than others.

    Mark Chapman and Jake Humphrey are excellent. That bloke that won Strictly is carp. Hazel Irvine is excellent, Gabby Logan OK and Claire Balding carp ...

    I agree with your summary.

    I am very scathing of tennis commentators who have not played the game to a reasonable level,Harman was my particular dislike. He was dreadful as a football journalist too and he hated us,being a Southend fan. I was very happy when he lost his job for plagiarism.

    Back on topic,Georgie Bingham/Thompson irritates me as I know for a fact she has no background in football. I used to coach all her family and her Mum thought it hilarious that she got her job on SSN as she wasn't sure what a football was!

    I like Patrick Barclay and Tim Vickery but Alan Green makes me want to vomit!

    Most of the ex players I can stomach.

    Am with you with Georgie Bingham....... very irritating, speaks fast and most of it drivel and whilst on the subject of Talk Sport how does Alan Brazil survive? Boasts about his drinking and then pulls a sickie on the last day at Cheltenham missing his show and then seen in the crowd later in the day, has so many days off.

    Talksport has the worse pundits ever - they care about the clubs they support or play for.

    Most seem to be great managers and officials despite never done the job!

    It is a "pretendy wee station" as Billy Connolly nearly said!

    I like Danny Kelly and his Euroexpress programme,which I will listen to after the tennis but most of them are dullards.

    I agree with Guy too on Brazil,most odd that he almost makes a joke out of being a soak.

    I was out and about yesterday afternoon, so had Manchester City v. Liverpool on. Robbie Savage is an even worse pundit than he was a player. Dreadful little squirt.

    Jermaine Jenas always comes across well.

    As a pundit I quite like Slavan Blilic. I love the way he uses Enligsh idiums like sick as a parrot etc.

    The best pundit out there is Gary Neville. by far. Speaks a lot of sense and has a bit of personality so it's none of the boring, tedious clichés which we tend to see from the likes of Michael Owen.

    The amount of things that Danny Murphy gets wrong about Watford pissed me off too. His comment on Deeney saying "that was his 100th goal too" when it was his 101st just showed how little research he does about the smaller clubs. There's a few more comments about us which I cant remember that I know were wildly inaccurate too. Terrible terrible pundit.

    Agree on Neville. And Carragher's a good foil. I like Danny Murphy too though. And Shearer. And Lee Dixon. Lampard is very promising. As you say, Owen's just thick. Paul Elliot used to be really good. No idea what happened to him ...

    Wilf caught up with Elliot?!

    Murphy is a sap.

    I agree Gary Neville,I always enjoy his thoughts. I like Carragher too although he sounds like a cat grooming!

    Mostly a bunch of hypocritical ****s and I can't stand them.

    Jenas = feels like he doesn't want to ever upset anyone, sits firmly on the fence and only praises, don't entirely dislike him but would like him to actually express his views a bit more.
    Neville = Quite like him
    Carragher = Again, don't mind him.
    J Redknapp = Bore off, useless.
    Henry = Like him.
    Dixon = Dunno what it is about him but not overly keen.
    Sutton = One of the worst imo. So hypocritical and a major bellend.
    Savage = **** off

    He said this the day AFTER saying the stuff about Payet. Why's it ok for Defoe but not Payet?!

    Not to mention this:

    https://www.facebook.com/5liveSport/...5684645524098/

    "Players going to China are mercenaries" - says the guy who left his boyhood club to become the highest paid British player at the time. The hypocrisy stinks and as such, I have 0 respect for Sutton.
