Why, can we only have one competitor per event?

Athletics and other such events have multiple competitors from each country. I'm sure we could win a hatfull more if we could have multiple entrants.

Maybe they need a regulation that the top 36 can compete regardless of nationality plus one from each country that can supply an entrant making the qualification time if they don;t have a top 36 entry.

Not only that, they've pulled a load of events. I think they seriously need to look at reducing swimming or not cutting back on other sports, especially one where we're dominant!

    I'm sure that's the reason.

If anything it probably made our guys more competitive to get into the team and even better than they were 4 years ago.

Also the coaches and management would have put even more effort to ensuring we had the best equipment etc.

The UCI have done their best to stop GB from winning everything but British Cycling took it as another challenge and won, again. The level of funding cycling receives means it should always win medals. Interestingly swimming receives nearly the same amount which shows something desperately needs to change in GB swimming.

I don't mind us only being allowed one competitor per event, but the lack of medals in total gets me angry. Cycling gets 18 medal events in total, swimming gets 34. That is ignoring the triathlon, and even then I'm being generous to swimming by also ignoring the pentathlon. Track cycling gets 10 medal events, pool swimming gets 32.

Judo and boxing are both popular, sure. But they are just two of many sorts of combat sport at the games. Furthermore the Olympics aren't about encouraging people to eat McDonalds and drink Coke (right?). So why do those events get 14 and 13 medals respectively: simply because some competitors are fatter than others? Why are we discriminating against fat cyclists? Surely we should have a second set of medals for the road race and omnium, limited to people who weigh more than 20 stone? That would be one of the highlights of the entire games.

FFS, freestyle wrestling is just one type of multiple types of wrestling at the games, and that alone gets 11 medals!
