This sort of thing is pretty much frowned upon in tennis. Even swearing and hitting the ground with your bat can lose you points. To be fair it's nothing short of assault, would have been a red card in football and therefor a disqualification in tennis.
I hope he is fined and the fine pays for the tickets of the spectators.

There is no way this is a criminal matter, but it is a civil matter, and I think the line judge probably has every right to sue Nalbandian for damages.
