Glasgow Rangers Players - Free agents

Now that Rangers have gone into liquidation and formed a newco all the players contracts have been cancelled. According to the Scottish PFA & employment law specialists they are now free to seek employment elsewhere. They said:

If a player wishes to object to being transferred, his contract of employment would immediately come to an end, leaving him with no contract, no dismissal and no right to compensation from either oldco or newco

So should we be looking at Rangers to get some players in……………This is the Rangers squad from last season

There are 58 players listed here; no wonder they went bust, though if this includes all the youth players as well it is not soooooooooo bad, but still bad enough

The only ones who would realistically join, aren't good enough I'd suspect.

I also suspect a lot of those through their love for Rangers will be joining the newco.

I agree a lot of the fringe players will but i don't know about most of the 1st team. They had to take a 50% cut in wages and they are now free agents so no transfer fee. Any club wanting the likes of Naismith, Lafferty, Whittaker or Edu can plough any transfer fee into their wages.

The "new" Rangers board are saying that players contracted to "old" Rangers must play for the new club and are threatening to sue those that don't. I don't see how they can say that personally. The club they signed for no longer exists.

Simple, the newco has bought out the assets of the liquidated Rangers FC from the administrators, assets include players contracts..

Not so much contracts - they would be a liability rather than an asset - but the player registrations maybe. I can't honestly see how the newco are right legally in their stance but they have a lot to lose by admitting the SPFA are right.

Some players starting to sign for other clubs now, Whittaker has gone to Norwich and Lafferty is off to FC Sion... would be interested to see if we can get any of them
