To have him there is an advisory capacity might be fair but to have him in the team taking up a valuable over 21 slot? Mmmmmmmm.

Mind you can we have suggestions for a suitable captain? I can't think of one for the English full team let alone a UK Olympic team with mostly youngsters.

Beckham helped get us the games so I think he should be in the team.

That's exactly why I'm against this public attempt to get into the team. When it comes to the games we'll want to win it, we won't with a 36 year old midfielder.

Pearce has said that anyone who plays in the Euros won't be in the Olympic team, so I imagine Beckham will still be better than the **** that's left after that.

I think he should be allowed to play and captain, a fine way to bow out.

Plus who gives a flying **** about Olympic football.

Ramsey and Bale are better than Beckham. He bowed out the moment he chased the Hollywood lifestyle and sacrificed his career for it.

He's coy about it, but keeps mentioning it. I hope they don't waste one of the spots on him.

I don't think that football should be in the olympics, but if it is, it should be open to only non professionals.

Good point and the same could be said of events like tennis et but money talks which is why Beckham will be picked.

Yeah but they'll be under 23 (Bale just..) so won't take up one of the 3 spots.. which was my point.

Think about all the players left after you've taken Englands Euro squad out of the pool, remove all the U23s and see what you're left with, Beckham would still be reasonably high on that list imo.

Isn't there talk that Ryan Giggs maybe selected as well!

Personally I wouldn't pick either of them to be honest but would be very surprised if Pearce didn't pick his mate Beckham!

I missed your point, sorry mate.

He would be reasonably high on the list and I can see him playing purely because of who he is. They need viewing figures, sponsorship money and so on. Beckham is just the 'brand' to bring all that in. Personally I can't stand who he is but that's just my opinion.

David Beckham is a phenomenal player and a phenomenal human being.

He can do and say whatever he wants as far as I'm concerned.

I dont want Beckham as GB captain, as I would much prefer him as England captain at the Euro's.

Beckham is probably the biggest British sporting icon ever, not having him in the squad would be ridiculous.

I think Becks should probably be included in the squad, but only used as an impact sub if needed!!!
