    Default Brum Drinks # 2

In answer to the question posed at the beginning of the original (now closed) thread one of the best pubs in town should you be able to spend a bit of time there prior to k/o is Old Contemptibles a fantastically stylish Nicholsons pub.

I've been there in my previous life as a salesman (it's in their financial district) and also prior to. Hornets games against Brum and WBA.

Look out for their famous bangers and great looking bar staff!

Thoroughly recommended but allow a good 45 minutes to get to the ground from the pub

How far is it away from station and how much would a cab cost to the ground from there?

I presume most people are getting the train? Have people got their tickets yet or buying on the day. 4 of us so we're thinking of just getting groupsaver on the day

The Old Contemptibles is about half hour walk from New Street station or less than 10 minutes from Snow Hill railway/tram station.

A cab to the ground won't set you back more than a tenner

Groupsaver is something like 12 quid each, at least I think that's what a mate of mine said.

Already booked the train (Virgin) to get the cheaper prices and there's 8 of us in total. From the city centre to the ground it's approx. 2 miles so a taxi is required unless you want to waste pub time by walking. As for boozers there's plenty around. For the real ale drinker the best I know of are The Wellington (12+ ales), Post Office Vaults (50+ bottled beers) and Old Joint Stock (nice place inside).

I remember going to the Post Office Vaults before and their selection of German beers being excellent.

I did it through The Trainline. You'll do well to get cheap tickets now though. Your other option is London Midland but that takes twice as long.

£15.50 return was London Midland trains, taking just under two hours there!

Just had a quick look and Virgin trains are now around £35. It'll probably more on the day.

London Midland are still around £15 but if 4 of you go you should get a third off if you buy on the day.

Blimey ESP, you can tell your a cabbie, The Old Contemptables is about 2 mins from Snow Hill and ten at the most from New St. You're right about getting to St Andrews though, a taxi should be used.

Decent Pub called the 'Square Peg' 10mins walk from Birmingham New Street station, good mixture of home and away supports. Been there a few times in the past when we played Brum and West Brom.

Are there any gay-friendly pubs near the ground? I fancy a bum or a BJ via a gloryhole before the game.
