    For ****'s sake:

    Watford 4 - 1 Doncaster
Page last updated at 15:19 GMT, Saturday, 31 December 2011
E-mail this to a friend Printable version Marvin Sordell scored twice for Watford against 10-man Doncaster to extend his team's unbeaten run to eight games.

The England Under-21 international opened the scoring before Billy Sharp equalised, but Sordell's glancing header restored Watford's lead.

Further goals from John Eustace and on-loan Michael Kightly ensured the win for Malky Mackay's men.

Herold Goulon was sent off for two bookings. Defeat for Rovers means they have not won away in five matches.

    From BBC. Who else.

Funny how 'Best striker in the league' Billy Sharp only has one more goal this season than 'Lazy, selfish, overrated, princess' Marvin Sordell

Great game, everyone played well again today, it was funny watching Diouf getting annoyed and him gesturing some stuff at the rookery as he walked down the tunnel. By the way Sharp looked pretty good, we kept him pretty quiet except for the goal, he also nearly lobbed Loach, I doubt he would come to us would he ?

Another home match and yet another superb value for money match. On the match review, (great write up Ashdon), one of the Donny fans said that with the players they have, someone was going to get thrashed sooner or later. Well sorry to disappoint that fan, but Doncaster really did look like a team of good individual players who have never played together before. There was no link up play or work ethic for the team, some of them gave up on runs that we'd have slaughtered our lot for, and it was all too easy to wind up Diouf too. I have a soft spot for Donny Rovers and have enjoyed a couple of trips up there, but let there be no doubt they are going down with this philosophy of short term loanee's. No doubt whatsover.

As for the match, well even after they scored I couldn't see us losing as it was there one and only chance up to that point. I don't remember Loach having a save to make. Nosworthy and the whole defence were superb again. An inspired sub by the gaffer for Eustace's superb goal, (still no need to drop the Prince though who was excellent again). In fact all 4 goals were very well taken and worth watching on the soon to be gone football league show.

Remember that American marching band that came to visit last year? Well they were back and the source of much more entertainment again today. The club sat them in the Lower Rous / Rookery corner for the game and they were soon being encouraged to play by Harry. Well play they did, and it was a great laugh seeing them trying to make up Watford chants, it definitely helped the atmosphere. Can someone get them back next year too? One of the most surreal moments as a Watford supporter happened to me, (and probably many others), when Kightly scored today. The American band were playing at full tilt, (and they were bl**dy loud), when Kightly smashed one into the corner of the net, the Rookery went bananas as Kightly ran towards the band, (who were still going strong), waving his shirt in the air and pointing at the Rookery. I asked my mate if we were hallucinating and if he was seeing what I was seeing? It was something I won't forget in a hurry and a great way to say goodbye to Kightly who has done us proud.

Another game, more cracking entertainment and a very deserved win. Next.

The Tiger Marching Band from Delaware were most amusing again and should come more often.

They should inspire the Yellow Order to do something similar with drums and trumpets

In fact, didn't they get everyone going just before Sordells 2nd , or was it Eustaces?

Also the Prince has finally learned how to get stuck in to the game from the off and how to tackle. Much improved but I'd still rather play John Eustace, but I guess that just me.

Please, may we retain form, now we lose Kightley and Nosworthy, who have been exceptional.

Great post Admin, I thought I was the only one that thought that when Kightlys goal went in, it was very strange the band playing as it went in, game of the season so far! P.S. The Football League Show isnt on tonight, has it already been axed?

It hasn't been axed, just not on tonight as it's new years eve. I'm sure I saw that it's not back until late Jan

Edit: It hasn't been axed YET

Very convincing win after a slow start.

Guess the key 2 moments were Marvin's well taken 1st and the sending off which quite frankly was coming some way off.

Nice way for Kightly to sign off and Eustace must have scored with his 3rd touch?

I don't think Loach and co had anything to do apart from pick the ball out of his net.

Simple win and great way to end the year.

Band were very good after the Pre-match seat confusion was sorted out!

And wouldn't want Sharp either. He carries a fair bit of weight for a striker and nothing special, would say similar to Chopra really just without the BetFair issues.

Was a good performance. I think Chimbonda was faking his injury as he could just not cut it against Kightly in those first 15 mins. What I really liked was the fact that we kept pushing on something that we have perhaps failed to do at times when leading this season. Doncaster did look like a teams of individuals who are just there to get a transfer somewhere else. The big bloke in midfield Gouron (sp?) was absolute dire, if it wasn't for the fact that he is 7ft 2 and 21 stone, I don't think he would make it on a Sunday pub team. You could tell he didn't like the fact he was injured and it looked like he actually wanted to get sent off.

Hodson was MOTM for me. Set up Sordell for a great run and finish and really pushed on providing valuable support all game, never stopped running. Sordell really impressed as well, great little flick header for the second after a great first. I think he likes playing with Deeney as he does a lot of the donkey work for him and has the legs over big Chris, causing more danger. Deeney would be a decent player if he could finish, absolute sitter again today.

Was a great send off for Kightly as well, would love for McCarthy and him to have a barny and him to stay but he will be back playing in the Prem soon.

By the way. El Hadj Doufl. What a ****! Hahaha.

good result, good performance. like others have said it was evident after the first ten minutes that donny would have a sending off, the only bit of doubt was whether it would be diouf or goulon.

    deserved the three points today.

perhaps one of my favourite ever moments at the rookery today. with about 2 minutes of injury time on the clock the marching band from the US (credit to them all btw, absolutely brilliant and certainly kept spirits up throughout the game) started playing that cee lo green song. kightly picks the ball up from 40 yards and starts to run at goal, fires a beautiful curling effort into the bottom right corner, rips his shirt off and runs over to the crowd right in front of me with his arms outstretched. it was just so surreal, but so brilliant all at the same time. some of the band started jumping up and down cheering, whilst the rest carried on playing to their credit. what a brilliant way to end the game, and to end a highly successful loan spell at the club. thank you michael and thank you to the band, i think you've topped off 2011 perfectly for me!!!

The Donny fan was quite correct. With the players they have, it was always going to be Doncaster that got thrashed!!

Really really enjoyed that. Doncaster are the worst team I've seen this season, anyone with diouf as captain deserves relegation. Also a mention to the ref, best ref we've had in a while despite not allowing us to play on in the first half.

Gutted I couldn't go and had to babysit my brother but it sounds like we played well and managed to get into the game over time.

Great that we managed four goals as well considering that we've struggled with goals recently.

I thought the players looked jaded and below par.....that was until the sending off. After that Watford really took advantage of the situation and ran out deserved winners. The final 30 minutes was a joy to watch, after a teppid, uninspiring first hour. Goulon done us a big favour today. Wonderful ending to the match with Kightly showing so much passion after his goal. A great way to sign off his Watford career. Two good finishes from Sordell, and it showed his confidence came flooding back with a near hat-trick goal on the turn. Doncaster are a very poor team though and I can't see them staying up, unless they buy their way out of trouble in January. This was a very good win against a team right down there with us, and it gives us some breathing space. I hope recent form can be maintained if/when Kightly and Nosworthy go back to their respective clubs. Hodson deserves special praise today. He was superb.

I think it has all been covered already but it was a thoroughly decent performance and entertaining couple of hours. The marching band are brilliant and made it a very unique day. As mentioned above, it was quite odd when Kightly scored whilst they were going full tilt - very surreal. It was nice to finally put a team to bed and put some breathing space in for the last few minutes. Once we got the third I had a hunch another was coming as we looked a little more relaxed.

Kightly has been different class and seems to have given it his all. I think he is eligible for the Pompey game but I can't see us seeing him in a Watford shirt after that. I think Wolves will look to keep hold of him. A top player though and a top pro, I'm delighted he signed off the way that he did.

Donny look terrible and like they only met each other for the first time today. They will go down.
