There's a few technical issues with a lot of laptops out there at the moment. It's to do with the graphics chips. It's also not a good time to buy before Xmas. I'd hold off till Jan if I were you.
Wouls certainly recommend Dell however. My laptop died due to the graphics chip issue. They arranged for an engineer to replace the motherboard next day at my place of work. Top service, but the issue is with the hardware and as its a desing problem it's likely to go again. Dell have extended the warranty by a year on all laptops with this component.
Beer, because the world's problems can't be resolved over a white wine spritzer
Only buy Dell if you're buying a set config - anything but that and they're loads more exxpensive.
I recommend HP Pavillions which are good and nicely designed. Or an Asus eeePC or MSI wind if ultra-mobilty is your thang.
Also, if you buy one without software installed and then install Linux with openOffice and firefox, Thunderbird etc. you can save up to 50% (in Denmark at least). And using Linux with open source software is as good as r better than your windows stuff. In case you need to run Windows stuff - use Wine - a thing that allows you to run windows programs on a linux platform.

When do you need it? I'd also wait till jan at least.
With the recession coming up too, electricals are about the only things that go cheap. Swings and roundabouts

When people have disposable income the price of electrical goods often comes down, this is due to high price elasticity of demand and low marginal cost of production.
To put it in an exam style answer. It may be completely wrong, but my teacher said it before.

probably not, I don't know?
