Blackburn away play off blog.
Im not going to mention the match as we drew 0-0 at Blackburn then that was followed by a 1-1 draw that saw us go out on the away goal rule.
Here we go..
Dave Edwards picked me up as normal as in them days Dave would drive to all away games. In the Car was myself,Richard Scott(scotty to his mates) Kate, and Les.Some of you will remember Kate, she used to sit in the vic end with a Red Dinosaur with Don Fraser(sticks).I still sit with Les now in the lower rous.
We set off in plenty of time as we would normally stop half way for a little chef breakfast, best part of the day,lol...
We travelled up,stopped had some food then set off again. We were about 20 miles from blackburn and its was around 5.30pm.Well we hit the most almighty traffic jam,and for nearly 45mins we didnt move. This was our worse nightmare,we are not going to make the game.We are all panicking.
Hornets everywhere on the motorway. So the car besides us decides sod this lets have some fun,he chucks a tennis ball out of the window, and scotty being 6 foot 4 and about 20 stone decides to get out and start running up the motorway singing their is only one glen Hodges, showing off his silky skills.
Well we were all wetting ourselfs, but while he is doing his Hodges impression the traffic decides to move,so we have to move.Scotty was now 50 yards behind us running up the middle of the motorway with a tennis ball. The guy is mad.
Its about 7pm now, scotty catches up as we pull over to the hard shoulder. We are gonna miss this game, then to our sheer astonishment the team coach pulls up and it was behind us all the time.Well the celebrations were mental,we are not gonna miss the game cos all the players are gonna be late.Thank god.
We finally hit blackburn and Dave decided to park up anywhere. We rushed to the ground and the team coach pulled up and all the players jumped off already in their kits and ready to play. The ref had delayed the game but the players didnt have much time to do anything but get on the pitch.
The game finished,we went looking for the car, well Dave now was panicking, the Bloody car has been stolen. So me,scotty and les ran back to Ewood park, dave has now been gone 30mins looking for his car.All the streets looked the same to us.
Some of the players came out to get on the Coach,we pulled up one of the watford staff and explained the car had been nicked and we cant get back to watford,so we had arranged all 4 of us to travel back with the team.Phew what a relief,we were getting home.
Then out of the blue we heard the tonking of a car horn, speeding down towards us.It was Dave,he found the car.Yessss we are getting home, then this copper on a horse pulled right out infront of Dave.
Dave shouted out its ok Ive found the car to the copper..the copper was not amused,he said,"I dont really care, you do know you were driving the wrong way down a one way street and also speeding"
We could not believe it.We all tried to explain what happened to the copper, but he was not having it,he booked dave for speeding and was fined.
What a day and evening we had.It is something that will live with me for the rest of my life, and you just had to be their to see so many emotions from being stuck on the motorway,to seeing the team bus, then thinking the car had been nicked, then to top it off Dave being fined.
Ive never known anything like it,all for a 0-0 draw.Yep we are all mad.
Great memories, thanks for taking the time to share.
That was priceless! Thanks for writing it up.
