I'd like to reserve judgement to I hear from the all knowing Ian Holloway.

It seems that they have some sort of advantage but if they're within the (current) rules then what's to complain about. They complained about our loans, but they wouldn't have done had we finished midtable, then the 'loophole' was closed, so all the EFL clubs did was to vote out a system they could have used themselves.

Sour grapes again. Seems strangely satisfying to not be all that's wrong with football for a change. Where is Martin Samuel on this though. Silent probably.

I think the Chinese group that own Wolves also own part of Mendes' agency. It seems wrong to have a stake in both the players' agent and the club employing them, there should be a clear separation.

There have been clubs more or less run by agents before, and it's usually gone pear-shaped because the agents were looking more to their own interests and to their clients' than to the club's.

Our rotund critic has written another article praising Wolves, unlike when we did something slightly left-field a few years back:

Don't know if this comment I noticed will get removed, so I screen capped it just in case. Glad to see somebody calling him out on his hypocrisy:

    Did he reply?

I remember his main beef was we were blocking young English talent from breaking through as well.

But it was ok for the top teams to not worry about that as they needed to be competitive and aim for instant success.

Which is what happened with Valencia. Chairman was friends with agent, agent peddles all his crap players to the chairman who buys them all. That same agent did the same with Benfica. Funnily enough that agent is the same that's now doing the same to Wolves. Although things are going a bit better for Wolves at present. How I imagine it going is this > peddle players good enough for the championship so they get promoted > use the PL riches and the rest of the Wolves riches to buy a load of crap.

I don't think he ever replies to the comments in the comments section, but he sometimes does a follow up article where he cherry-picks those he can refute. I'd imagine the comment I screen capped will either be totally ignored, or he'll come up with some kind of condescending remark designed to make him appear as if he was correct all along.

Out of interest, having looked a couple of minutes ago - the comment had 75 green arrows and only 13 red. Either lots of Hornets fans read it, or football fans in general have noticed what a hypocrite he is.

I disagree with almost everything he says and think he's a *******. However I met him in Trnava before an England and he was alright. I will err on the side of caution and continue with him being a *******.

Seems I was pretty accurate with my prediction! In his latest ramblings today, he did indeed reply to Rob from London:

"I agree that Wolves haven’t broken any rules, and the protests from the other clubs appear to be sour grapes. However, when Watford also broke zero rules by obtaining a number of players on loan from Udinese and Granada due to the owners only having just taken over and not having the necessary time to complete permanent transfers – proven by the fact they went on to sign them the following season – you were highly critical, and were in agreement with the Football League’s decision to change the rules afterwards so no other club could do the same. I would love to know your reason for stating that one club have ambition and wit when searching for ways to achieve promotion, but another club were ruthlessly ‘exploiting a loophole’ and shouldn’t be allowed to get away with it. Seems you’ve changed your tune over the last few years – or your opinion is influenced by whether or not you like the club in question". Rob, London.

"That’s right, Rob, I’ve got it in for Watford. As can be seen by the many, many times I’ve written negatively about them since. So let’s return from la-la land to reality. The Pozzo family arrived here with a business plan that was built on switching players using loans between their many clubs throughout Europe. That is a threat to the integrity of competition if allowed unchecked. Sure, Watford were unlikely to come across Udinese or Granada any time soon, but what if another company adopted that model with clubs that could meet in European competition? The Pozzo plan could have been the thin end of a very dubious wedge. Also, you forget that Watford were not at the top of the Pozzo food chain back then. As a Championship club, there was a danger they could have become a dumping ground for some ordinary players on the books elsewhere – as happened to Charlton after the Roland Duchatelet takeover – with homegrown players, young players, British players, suddenly finding their way blocked. That is no longer an issue because Watford are in the Premier League and, one imagines, generating more money than the Pozzo family’s other interests: so they get the pick of the bunch. But it was different, back then. Finally, the idea the Pozzo family had to bring in all these loan signings is a myth. It takes as long to do a loan as a permanent deal and, anyway, Watford weren’t doing badly under their previous manager, Sean Dyche, it wasn’t as if the club was in crisis at the bottom, or had only ten fit players available. It wasn’t a temporary measure, it was a strategy and would have continued had the Football League and Premier League not wisely changed the rules around loan signings. That Watford made loans permanent is not proof of anything – they had to do that to comply with the changed regulations. So I haven’t changed my tune in the least. What happened at Watford back then was wrong, and very different to the situation at Wolves".

If you don't want to read his twaddle - no he doesn't back down. To sum up - compares the Pozzo's to what happened at Charlton and mentions the blocking of homegrown players as per what wfc4ever mentioned above; says loans take as long to complete as a permanent transfer (not true - Duxbury explained this at the time); laughably brings Sean Dyche in to the debate; and the coup de gras - Watford weren't doing bad before they (the Pozzo's) arrived and were not a club in crisis - but no mention of zero cash, selling players to just about stay afloat, 3-sided building site of a stadium, and of course bankrupt Baz:eek:.

So he's basically written a load of old guff to try to prove he wasn't a hypocrite regarding his obvious double-standard with Wolves. I'd say this is conclusive proof - if it were needed - that he has a grudge against the club. Or that he's just a bit thick. Probably both.

So really he just thinks it's ok as Wolves have actually brought the players in general (some are on loan)

Sure fair enough but no-one else could afford to pay £15 million for one player - is that keeping things fair ?

I guess it's only like the top teams spending 200 million in the Premier league whilst others only spend 30 million or so.

Basically sounds like he think we should have just been happy with mid-table and having no real ambition.
