I have to agree over your comments on Success. Someone needs to have a word with him, as he will quickly get a reputation and genuine fouls will not be given in future. I see he's also getting some flak over the "push" on the linesman. To me it appeared accidental, but I think it's more his reaction afterwards that people were not impressed by. His lack of apology made it look like he didn't give a toss, which is why he's being condemned today.

He's actually a very humble guy off the pitch, but on it I think he needs to improve on the mental side of his game.

Any performance which means we get around 2 mins highlights near the end of FA Cup MotD is ok by me. You can bang on all you want about how piss poor this guy is and how piss poor that pass was we won comfortably. It should also be pointed out that whilst the pith was not a “mud bath” it did bobble all over the place. Sure, Prem players should handle it better but how often do you see teams that don’t (Man City, apart from being a rather daft comparison, were on their carpet at the Etihad). It’s like taking a 90 minute snapshot and drawing season long, and in some cases career long, conclusions

As one of the critics, I must say that I wasn't drawing any season-long or career-long conclusions but only conclusions based on that particular match. Yes, we were always comfortable, but so we should be against a team of part-timers. Hughes' goal was well taken, Quina played well in the first half, Britos was always commanding and Troy brought commitment and professionalism when he came on, but there were no moments when Woking fans would have thought "the Prem - wow!"

And with the score at 1-0 for so long, there was always the possibility that a hopeful punt towards our goal might have taken a lucky deflection or bobble and embarrassed us. If it had, we would still have gone through but I wouldn't have wanted to see that goal replayed on TV every Cup matchday

This seems fairly harsh to me. What makes you think you allowed us to be within 1 goal? Did you just try not to score or does it maybe have something to do with some defenders? Your first goal was a good finish but would have been prevented Hyde stuck with the scorer rather than letting him go.

You have to remember we are part time, how much are players like Deeney etc on? Probably on more a week than our entire budget is for a month! You should destroy us but we deserve at least a little bit of credit for keeping the score to just 2 and for being in the game for so long.

Yes I agree Woking did very well and made it as hard as they could for us, you and all of your fellow supporters can be very proud of their achievements in the FA Cup this season, hopefully the money will be used wisely and stand the club in good stead for many years to come!

I would expect any club in the top 2-3 tiers to be able to rest their first 11 and beat that Woking team.
We are 5 tiers above them and it would have been the biggest shock in FA cup history.

I think we are agreed about the fact that there should have been a massive gulf between our reserves and your first team and there wasn't. We just disagree on the reason why. You feel Woking played well to stop us. I feel Woking were at the level to be expected, in fact poorer than I expected (perhaps I over-estimated the quality of football at that level?), and that our players played well below their usual level but due to the quality of the opposition, that was sufficient to get the job done.

Always worth skipping past the early post-match comments as posters tend not to have been at the game - rendering their opinions worthless

Were Watford terrible? No, they did what they felt they had to do and utterly dominated a game that they should have utterly dominated. Was it a brilliant display of scintillating exhibition football? No, certainly not. Two points on the latter remark: Woking can take some of the blame/credit for that in that they set up and to avoid a thrashing and played, in a way, cautiously. Secondly, I don't see Watford ever running amok and scoring a shed-full of goals. They just don't play that way, but with lots of slow build-up and probing and possession; plus they don't have good enough forwards for that sort of game. I would rather that was not the case, but we are were we are and people on this forum who now and then predict we will give someone a battering some day are in for a long wait.

Sorry Lloyd but BT coverage of the full match was fine, in fact those of us that saw it probably saw far more detail watching the match on TV than those of you who were at the game.

The live match atmosphere is what those of us watching on TV we miss out on, but you actually get to see the match in far greater detail when full coverage is shown, therefore someone watching on TV almost certainly gets a better perspective of the finer details than someone who was at the ground for any match that is shown in full on TV.

I know heart of hearts when the draw was made that Woking would have preferred one of the big 6; but given how Spurs and City destroyed their opponents this weekend I reckon most Woking fans are glad they didn't after all.

In that respect, you didn't miss much yesterday!

    Three players:
Success was badly found out yesterday. He was very busy and didn't hide and, whenever he got on the ball, you could be forgiven for thinking 'here we go, tear into them, Isaac'. But there is so little end product. He passes badly and frequently chooses the wrong options. He falls over too easily. He has the physical attributes for a quicker version of a young Deeney, but I don't see him making the runs (Deeney actually replaced him and showed him how, with his goal). Gracia has got his work cut out, moulding him into a useful player and, with him at 22, one wonders seriously if Success has got what it takes. He should take plenty of blame for the low score, yesterday.
Penaranda was pretty much ineffective yesterday, but he has loads of excuses. There are plenty of tricks and pace in him and, one would have thought, plenty to work with.
Quina: We already know he is a good player. I wonder if he would be a bit more effective playing ten yards further up the pitch, where he can 'threaten' the edge of the penalty area. ?

I like Quina and I think that how Javi put him in the team and then taken out again so he can be nurtured carefully is the right one. I also think that a one month loan to a championship team this window may also do him the world of good.

A bit harsh! Like many players of his age, Success is raw and inconsistent, but I think most people would agree that we've seen plenty of evidence to suggest that he is likely to mature into a formidable player over the next few seasons. I shudder to think of the abuse the young Luther Blissett would have received if forums like this existed 40 years ago! And why would we 'blame' anyone for the 'low score' yesterday? We did what we had to do to get through and the result was never in doubt. What score were you expecting?

I've said before that the forum should shut down for 30 minutes after a match to stop some of the over reaction that we get from the same people every time. Quite often these people don't post when we win

TBF the result was in doubt until the 74th minute. They didn't look like scoring but had the odd sight of goal and while the lead was only one goal, you can't be sure.
I hope you're right about Success but at 23 (it's his birthday today !) and given his past Baileys issues and lack of goals in career to to-date, I'm not holding my breath. He's only getting game time this season due to our other striking options being so limited, not as a result of anything he has done/achieved. Ditto Penaranda.

Good idea. Perhaps the site owners could introduce some kind of icon to allow posters to indicate whether or not they actually attended the game too, to make it easier to skip past the views of the armchair fans

    That's a pretty bizarre statement !
So which bits did the live tv coverage and replays miss out or mis-represent ? What was the final score if you were physically there ? I only saw the live feed and it finished 2-0 to us on my pc, 2nd goal in the 74th minute.

Job done. It wasn't great but it was good enough. We were never in any danger of losing and should have won more comfortably. Pitch looked great but in fact was very bobbly which didn't help. I think most are agreed on Success. I don't think we will see the Chalobah back to his best until next season and he still looks very rusty. Thought Cleverley played well. Good to finally see Peneranda and his desire can certainly not be questioned and I liked the fact he wanted to get forward and take people on. Decision making may not be quite right not a bad debut. Interesting ground, which quite a big seated area at one end and possibly the smallest stand I've ever seen on the opposite side of the pitch. Going to the gents at half time was slightly risky as the floor had given way!
Fair play to Woking who did as much as they could. I think had they pushed forward and really gone for it then we may well have won by a bigger margin but they chose to try and defend and not going all gung ho and it worked for them
On to round 4 and I would like the lowest ranked team left in the at home in the next round or Sheffield Wednesday.
We are not going down this season and may already have enough points so I feel this is a big opportunity to have a real go at this competition this season. We could do with the big boys being drawn together but if we can get a friendly draw then you never know

With the score at 1-0, the final outcome (i.e, a Watford win) was never threatened by Woking. The TV pictures may have made it appear otherwise, but it wasn't.

Enjoyed yesterday despite the one sided match.

As a lot of you have mentioned, it was one of the most comfortable 2-0 wins you will ever see. First half I expecting the cricket score that our manager mentioned pre-match especially after Hughes scored and we could barely get hold of the ball. I thought we were a lot better 2nd half - we actually got on the ball in to the Watford half albeit without creating anything.

We defended pretty well for the most part although I get the feeling if we had somehow managed to score you would have stepped it up and got a couple more goals.

I'll be monitoring Penaranda's career with interest from now on. Looked skillful and clearly rates himself but I wonder if he has any end product. Oh and "he's got biiiird **** on his head".

Nice to see Dowson kept his promise of giving Gracia a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale after the game (and getting sangria in return).

Have you ever thought that some fans simply can’t afford to go to every game? Doesn’t make them any more or less of a fan than you and their opinions are just as valid as yours.

In fact, given the narrow minded view your showing over understanding that might make me believe their opinions are more valid than yours.

Hang on, where's my violin. Fans may not be able to afford to get to games, they might not go because they have one leg shorter than the other or could have a million other perfectly good reasons for not attending, but if you weren't there I'm not interested in reading your opinion of something you didn't see.

Your violin is probably with your home and away season tickets, lifelong coach travel membership and freshly laundered home and away kits because your such a humongous mega fan with all of the best opinions. Have you looked there?

You point that no one can have a valid opinion if they don’t go to the game is utterly laughable. And I suspect you know that but you think you’d now lose face by admitting as much.

TBF I agree that those who watched the game carry more weight than those who just read the post match reports or Sky updates but you've got to include in that those that watch the whole thing live on TV/stream Lloyd ?

  32. I would have agreed with you until I watched both the recent West Ham game and a cup game at Chelsea a couple of years ago from the very front row, which, while being great for atmosphere, meant that I really had very little idea of what was going on tactically or strategically. I am spoilt with my UGT seat and most away games I am a good way up, but I'd imagine elevation at Woking wasn't ideal for game analysis.

Didn't really enjoy watching the match that much, felt some players tried too hard.

Poorest players for me were Chalobah and Success.

Best players were Hughes and Britos.

  35. They didn't. It was incredibly boring.
