Just seen this on the Cherries site:

"Watford or Southampton due to Rookie managers with no prior Premier League experience"

    Eh?

Sure Sliva was manager of Hull last season and the new guy at Southampton worked with Benitez at Liverpool albeit a few years ago!

    Another one was:

"too much chopping and changing and constant buying of foreign mercenaries = no team spirit"

Probably a fair point given what happened last season (the first part seems to be the main reason given for us to be relegation candidates) but hopefully the signing of Hughes will quell any fears about a lack of spirit due to overseas mercenaries (and you could say that about a lot of clubs!)

I think we will be one of a number of clubs outside the top 8 potentially facing a scrap but feel more hopefully with Sliva here.

Everyone just seems to have written Huddersfield off and put Newcastle as safe already!

If you look at the teams that aren't Top 7, Green is teams we have a stronger squad than, orange is similar and red is teams who definitely have stronger squads than us.

    Bournemouth
    Brighton
    Burnley

    Crystal Palace
    Huddersfield
    Leicester
    Newcastle
    Southampton
    Stoke
    Swansea
    West Brom
    West Ham

Top 10 should be an aim next year for sure.

There were 6 points difference between 8th and 17th last season. The 3 teams coming up are better than the 3 teams going down. Transfer windows will be all important and hopefully so will our change in manager. So far Silva and Hughes is a very good start and if we sign some of the other players linked we will look much stronger. There is an outside chance we can finish in the top 10, but I would say aim for our best season in the Premier League. So I'll be extremely happy with either 46 points or 12th position

To answer the question. No. Certainly not without some very significant strengthening. I can't see where the goals will come from next season without a quality addition upfront. Troy only scored penalties. Our other "attacking" options like Success and Pereyra have never been goal getters. Quality proven strikers are expensive. Another Okaka won't help !

Is this based on figures from somewhere or is it opinion?

Just that if it is based on data, it is likely to change quite dramatically, through transfer activity, before any balls get kicked.

Unless we bring in a top striker and strengthen our defence, sadly I think not :(

For the title. 1500/1 Bet 365, Sky Bet, Betfred, and some other slightly less well known ones.
For top 4. 250/1 Sky Bet.

The key question is how much of a difference the new coach will make. What percentage of our poor play last season was down to Mazzari and what was down to the players? It's just too complex for me to work out. I strongly suspect getting rid of Mazzari was the best single thing we could have done. I would have thought Deeney is still a good player but he surely has to have someone decent playing alongside him. He doesn't get injured often, but one bad one and we're effectively without a premiership-quality striker. That could be very bad news. Almost no players at this level of modern football are slow runners, but I would love to see us get an attacker with genuine pace - that would open up more possibilities to our so-far ponderous attacks. Not only would it improve our goal-scoring chances it would be more exciting to watch. I never again want to see such boring football as the stuff we played last year ( yes, there were a few exceptions to that, but not many).

If we'd got seven more points last season we'd have finished eighth. So, the question boils down to - do you think Silva and other additions over the next six weeks and in January will be able to deliver another seven plus points? I'd say yes.

On targets, I'd much prefer us to have a points target rather than a place one. Fifty points would be a realistic one. Only five better than our first season back in the Prem. (ignoring last season's 'hiccup'). An 'incremental improvement'. And that should give us every chance of finishing tenth or better irrespective of any particular concertinaring of mid-table finishes last season.

Last seasons top 7 will be this seasons top7 and that leaves the rest of us in our own league fighting for survival. I believe we will be better than 3 teams at the very least, certainly capable of finishing top 10 but if we get distracted with a good cup run we might find ourselves in bottom half.

Avoiding relegation would be a bonus. That is all we can hope for.
I do not feel we can attract any decent player. The 'Mercenaries' in the Premiership applies to a lot of clubs, but it a title most attached to Watford.
Let's see what happens in 2017/18 season.
    Bon chance

No but we will be ok for 11th due to it being a poor league. How they market Stoke v Huddersfield/Burnley/Watford/Palace/Bournemouth as the best league in the world is beyond any PR guru

Cant see us finishing top 10, not unless we spend big. I like that we are trying to buy younger players and appear to be building a team rather than a bunch of individuals.
the question is will we do better than last year? I think we will, but we have to otherwise we will go down. It is clear from the players body language that they hated Wally, now he is gone they have no excuses. Silva seems a decent bloke who will put his arm round the players when needed and kick them up the behind again when needed.
Like everyone we are all excited and why not. But this is a hard league and you get punished for mistakes. At the moment I would bite someones arm off for a 14/15 place finish with a decent cup run. Whilst building for the future.
There are some well run clubs in the league and there isnt a Villa/Sunderland type club either. In the end the 3 promoted sides, Palace, Burnley, Muff, us, Swansea and I think Southampton will all be in the bottom half.

I think Stoke will finish below many of those teams unless they pull off something unexpected in the window.
