I wanted to be a geologist since I was 7. Chose my subjects at school to fit with it, two university degrees and 6 wonderful years working my dream.

Then Saudi Arabia decided to screw the entire oil industry over and collapsed several companies including mine, putting over 100,000 UK workers out (no mention of that in the news). It's very tough to take, knowing that you cannot do what you enjoy. I've tried jobs in tree surgery, construction and transport since. Making money and being good at a job is one thing, but nothing compares to doing what you love.

 

I wanted to be Heavyweight Champion of the world.
I have settled into a life being a fat Aerospace Engineer (nowhere near as fun as it might sound).

 

AB, hasn't the stronger oil price of late helped with job opportunities?

Sadly not, yet. Well, not for geologists.

 

When I was young, I would of dearly loved to be a ballet dancer. However, My dream was not to be as I never showed any interest in ballet. In fact, I have never liked dancing of any kind and I find classical music boring.
