There is no logic behind either Merson or Shearer's predictions. It is based on the following so-called facts rather than the quality of our players or performance. We are a small unfashionable club; we play in bright yellow shirts; they don't like the way the club is run; we 'sack' our manager, sorry coach, every year; we play long balls forward and the list goes on. Ultimately we don't play pretty football like Bournemouth. When we play a more entertaining type of football regularly (like last week) we will start to get some credit and win a few more over. It will be interesting to see how the promoted clubs get on in the second week but any rational assessment would at least perm 2 out of 3 of the promoted clubs to go down. Merson and Shearer are stuck in a football world of 20 years ago - they are best ignored.

They do have Brighton and Huddersfield to go down so that is 2 promoted sides..

I suspect they went on our form at the end of the season and lack of fire power until next week but if we can play as per Saturday we will be fine.

Would love to see two of the current bottom 3 go down.

Unfortunately I don't think that Brighton will get many points this season and will finish bottom.

If they continue to struggle I wonder how long the owners will give Houghton to turn it round before pulling the trigger

Looking at yesterday's highlights, it looks to me that the players just aren't up to it, much like when we came up in 1999 and 2006. Houghton cant do much unless they invest.

Glad to see Newcastle lost to Uddersfield, pushes us down to fourth though

Well done @Knight GT and @Halfwayline ; the only two to correctly predict our 2nd round league cup exit. Tbh I thought we entered at the 3rd round. Got confused with the FA cup I guess.

In hindsight it was so obvious this would happen. We were all just blinded by the natural optimism of football fans.

A quick memo to anyone thinking of attending next season's League Cup 2nd round match: Don't.

Hmmm, surprised we had so many low predictions for us. I mean, we didn't even match most of them, but we weren't to know that Silva would snake us, or that our chronic injury problems would persist.
I thought we'd get top 10, and decent in the cups. Even so, we weren't far off in the league...

League position: spot on. Very proud of that.
    FA Cup: 1 out
    League cup: 2 out
POTS: no, but was great when not injured
    BSS: I’d argue yes
Flop: considering Bailey’s gate and his spell at Malaga, I’d argue he was the flop of the season in more ways than one (2x points)
Discipline: no idea who it was, but it wasn’t Prodl
    Second season: no.
