Which is what I'm sure Silva said in the media earlier in the season. He needed to improve aspects of his game, which he did, and when his chance came along he took it. Ok that chance might have come sooner because of injuries but that doesnt prove that Silva is stubborn or inflexible. If anything the opposite as the performances Hughes put in meant he kept his place in the side even when others came back from injury - that wouldnt have happened under QSF or Wally. Likewise Zegeeler might not have been Silva's preferred choice but his performances now mean he's our first choice left back.

Okaka wasnt picked for whatever the off field issue was and by Silva's own admission in the press the player was aware of what the issue was - which suggests a dialogue exsisted between player and coach. Okaka now seems to be getting a chance, albeit only from the bench so far. Again that wouldnt have happened under the previous two managers who would have frozen him out completely.

Accusations can be made of Silva - such as his handling of the media for example - but stubbornness, being inflexible with players and since last week loosing the dressing room all seem wide of the mark

I watched Mahrez's run along the entire length of the pitch for that header. At no point did anyone pick him up let alone lose him.

Hence why we have conceded 35 goals in 20 matches.

This has been a problem to Watford for 2 years now. To defend well you have to be disciplined and hard working. Tracking back is a less glamours aspect of a footballers job, but it needs to be done.

From what I’ve seen Zeegelaar is a better defender than Holebas and Janmaat, but is still not great. Like all our wing backs, defensive duties are secondary.

  5. Err, not sure about this. Okaka said he wasn't aware why he was being left out in the cold, which strongly suggests there was no dialogue, or at least an inadequate dialogue between the two parties. I guess it depends who you believe. That said, if you can believe there is some truth in both claims, it still suggests there was something missing in any communication between the two.

It seems to me that Okaka thought his efforts would be rewarded with consideration for the team, whilst Silva was thinking, 'I told him he is excess to requirements, why does he keep bothering me?'; this seems to perfectly fit the comments made by the two parties.

  6. Tbf Janmaat was part of an attack that broke down and Lesta countered really quickly; Janmaat made up a 20 yard start on the counter to get to Albrighton, and held him up, but was obviously knackered by this.

I think 'being unobtrusive' is a cliche used to praise referees and it is not always true. You want referees to make the right calls and if that involves contentious decisions then so be it. And I see it as a good thing that they exert authority over players. Call me old-fashioned by all means, but I think I'm right. Players show week in, week out that they will game systems to the limit if they are allowed to. They must; it is an example of 'selection pressure'. It is the referees' obligation to ensure adherence to the rules, whether or not that makes him popular.
Having said all that, I thought yesterday's ref was very good. (Shame about the girl, who I have seen doing well in the past, but who made a few mistakes this time around).

Let's not beat about the bush: If Wilson claimed to the ref that he didn't touch the ball then was being a liar and a cheat.

This is true but Perayra tracking back should have called Zeegelaar to the problem or got there himself. He was closest.
As for the cross, Janmatt made up good ground but Albrighton made a good turn to create the space for a cross.
Leicester broke quickly to score from a misplaced attacking pass that was no more than a yard out and had Carrillo been on his toes he would have got it and it would have been us with a promising attack. Fine margins.

I like Janmaat. He’s good going forward and he’s a better defender than people give him credit for. He has good awareness, it’s just that attack-minded defenders often get caught out and without lightening pace it can mean losing a battle. But considering the pace in that Leicester team I don’t think he had a bad game. An on-form Janmaat means goal opportunities - at the right end. He makes good overlapping runs and always gives the midfield options.

Anyway, about the Silva vs Okaka discussion, I happen to know that Okaka was seen coining the side of Marco’s car when pissed back in August. He also left a turd in Marco’s office as a welcome present on the boss’s first day. Yet still Silva played him against Liverpool. And since the Liverpool game he’s stolen Marco’s prized watch (twice), jumped off a neighbouring roof terrace into Marco’s swimming pool and slept with Marco’s wife AND mother (on different occasions). Marco only heard about the conquest of his mother last week and yet he still included him in the squad. I think that shows exceptional man-management and you should all lay off him.

This is true, the priest in the village where Silva grew up called him on Christmas Eve to say a man fitting Okaka’s description had been seen digging up a grave and performing ‘acts’ on the body.

A good win for us yesterday but have to follow it up with a win against Swansea. I was just relieved that the performance was much improved.

Gomes- Fair to say after Brighton he needed to redeem himself. Boy he did that with those two saves right at the death as well as collecting the ball that essentially sealed the 3 points. The performances we have come to expect from the big man ever since he signed.

Janmaat- I felt so uneasy whenever he had the ball at his feet. Played out of the back nicely at times and linked up well with Carrillo, partly at fault for the first goal giving away the ball but did the hard work to get back into position, just didn't get tight enough once he got there to prevent Albrighton getting the cross in. Think the defending at the back post could of be better for there goal.

Kabasele- An unbelievable performance. This guy reads the game so well, good in the air, good with his feet, quick off the mark, a typical modern day center back. Fell asleep once as Jamie Vardy got through on goal (probably should of anticipated the run better) but more than made up for it with 2 blocks later on in the game as well as being solid throughout the rest of the game. Love that he does the simple things well, just knocking the ball out of play rather than trying anything extravagant. Shows so much passion on the pitch, a contender for MOTM for sure.

Wague- A very solid home debut. Seems to be a very similar player to Kabasele (can only be a good thing). Much quicker than I expected him to be, was good on the ball and in the air. Got his goal and was defensively solid throughout the game. One moment that stood out was from our corner where he won two important challenges to prevent a counter attack. Early signs seem to suggest that the Kabasele/Wague partnership is a good one but time will tell. Definitely start against Swansea.

Zeegelaar- Offers so much going forward, such a powerful and strong runner with the ball and his first touch is incredible. I actually think his one on one defending is quite good but he is out of position so much. A number of times I think he was covered by the good defending of the center backs. I just think he needs to learn when to go and when to stay, he seems to go every single time and it sometimes leaves us short. By no means a bad performance and definitely better than Holebas. Maybe should of been more aware of Mahrez for there goal but that may well be me being harsh.

Doucoure- Still not back to his usual self and I thought for the majority of this game he was quite poor. Broke up play well as ever but was slow and sloppy in possession. Much improved after he got his goal and begun to play how we know he can. Can never fault his effort or passion, and even when he has a poor game we are still better with him still in the side.

Watson- When he was booked for that missed time tackle only a few minutes in I thought Watson was in for a torrid time but I think he played very well today. Playing Watson allows Cleverley and Doucoure to be much more free as their is not as much emphasis on their defensive responsibilities. What I like about him is he always puts his foot in and doesn't shy away from any challenge, he is there for every 50/50 and whether he wins or loses the battle he was always making it much harder for the Leicester players. Still a great range of passing, on a couple of occasions he switched the ball to Richarlison which were executed perfectly. Still a few sloppy ones in the middle of the park but a good performance. Until Chalobah is back I think a Watson/Doucoure partnership is our best option.

Carrillo- A very very good game for us yesterday, perhaps his best so far? Worked well in tight spaces, retained possession nicely, good link up with Janmaat and was always looking to make something happen. Despite this he still frustrates me. A lot. On a number of occasions today he managed to take it round his man, so he is clearly very good at getting past a defender. Sometimes he receives the ball and I just want him to get the ball and drive with it but he doesn't seem to do that. He sometimes slows it down when I feel he has it in him to travel with the ball and commit defenders but never the less I personally thought he had a great game. I say personally because it fascinates me how much he splits opinion. On the way out of the ground when he was announced as MOTM the person behind me said ''Really? He was crap''. Interesting to say the least.

Cleverley- As per, solid if unspectacular. Pressed from the first minute till the last working hard as well always expect him to. Hard work payed off when his closing down created a chance that he was unlucky not to take. Good delivery for both goals, otherwise his set plays were poor. Sometimes a bit sloppy, a few miss placed passes. Seems to be lacking a bit of confidence but the ultimate professional and deserves to keep his place.

Pererya- Not been the same since his injury. I know he is slightly out of position on the left but he is more than good enough to impact the game from out wide. He just doesn't do enough in this side to warrant a starting spot. Didn't seem like he was putting his all into his pressing, also didn't look completely committed to many 50/50s. Perhaps should of been back covering Zeegelaar for there goal, was breaking his neck to get back but was ultimately to late. Maybe suggests he should of been back there? Think he still shows passion (just look at his reaction to there goal). Hoping he returns to his best, because we all know how good he can be and what a positive effect it has on our side.

Richarlison- I love how hard this guy works. Was still putting his absolute all in when the game was coming to a close. If there was any doubt of where his best position is (not sure if there was?) it is most definitely out on the left. Up top it just didn't work, he was absolutely dominated. Won a few balls in the air but they were few and far between, can't knock his effort, tried his best but it just wasn't working. Not sure why he tried to round the keeper, he absolutely has to hit that earlier, maybe a confidence issue? Was much improved when out left. Did well to hook the ball towards goal which resulted in our goal and was desperately unlucky when he smacked the post shortly after. Looked dead on his feet by the end but that win meant so much to him. Desperately in need of a rest, we're crying out for another attacking player to step up to allow us to do that.

Okaka- Can Silva just swallow his pride and play this guy at least till he gets the replacement in January that he wants. It really was the turning point in the game. Good hold up play and retained possession well. Sometimes a bit sloppy but that's forgivable, was strong when running with the ball and put himself about for the whole game but largely remained anonymous. Despite that he absolutely has to start against Swansea, nice flick which led to Richarlison hitting the post. Happy to see him channeling his inner Lloyd Doyley with his hairstyle. I'm struggling to see how Silva can't start him against Swansea after this performance.

Prodl- Looked to of been put on to counter Slimani coming on. Won a few headers and punted the ball far up field later on to help see the game out late on. Wouldn't have him replace Wague or Kabasele against Swansea.

Sinclair- Was only on for a few minutes. Did well on the break away to help relieve some of the pressure late on.

Apart from commenting on how poorly they played, the overwhelming message coming from the Leicester forums is how utterly dogsh1te we are. 'Championship side' , 'how the f*** did we just lose to that pile of sh1te' etc, etc.
Are we looking at our players through rose tinted specs when we praise their performance, or is it just unusually sour grapes?

These are the same deluded fans who thought Knockaert was fouled and they were robbed. Since then they won a flukey title with long balls and 3-4 decent players having a good season. Of course they don’t see things right.

Having said that, we weren’t great yesterday but got the job done.

I always think this. Everyone is so positive purely because we won. Imagine if we had lost 3-2 in non-dramatic circumstances through 2 30 yard strikes, we would be saying all of the players are **** rather than heaping praise on them.

We had 1 shot on target and clearly got away with a few at the back. Sounds like Lesta were poor and we were no better than usual but ground out a win with some luck. I wouldn't be praising anyone just yet.

It is often fine margins that can affect the result. That is why I wasn't going overboard with my criticism of the team over the past few weeks. We havn't been that bad, nor that good, and most of those games could have gone either way.

But yesterday was about getting the win to end the bad run.

I think there are only four outfield players been better than Carrillo this season, so far. Rich, Doucoure, Hughes and Cleverley.

He has been OK and he was cheap.

A good signing in my view

Yes, the facts are true. I'm not accusing you of lying. But the implications are in the pairing of these two facts as if they are significantly connected. The problem is you are grossly over-simplifying the situation. The facts may be connected but there is not really proof of that and I believe most of these things are complex. People on this site do this all the time - make simplistic comments about complex phenomena with the implication that this solves the problem or explains the situation. I suppose I don't blame them, it can be quite fun. But I am deeply suspicious of 'soundbites'; they usually don't reveal the truth.
For what it's worth you and I probably agree - - It looks like Okaka should be chosen ahead of Deeney and Gray, as things stand, at the moment.

I'm glad you are taking notice of my 'put-downs', I always consider it a nice compliment when someone pays attention. However, I did not accuse him of being simplistic, I did accuse his statement of being simplistic. Simplistic:
'Contrary to what some people believe, simplistic is not a fancy word for simple. Simplistic does not describe things that are easy to understand, deal with, or use. Those sorts of things are simply simple. However, if something is too simple—misleadingly so—then it is correctly called simplistic. An argument that glosses over or omits relevant facts and presents trite, hackneyed, slogan-like statements and sound bites is indeed simplistic.' (Off Google.)
Always useful to remember when listening to politicians.
I like to appear 'dead clever', but really it is just a cover for my humility.
