The only chance we had of staying up was the season being voided.

We deserve relegation and will rightfully get it.

Southampton have zero pressure, we have it all. It’s a must win, so it’s just obvious our spineless cowards will bottle it. They always do.

I’ve been one of the most positive people on this forum for months, clinging onto the hope that we will turn it around and survive. After last nights performance, it’s clear to see, that even the players don’t want to be in the Prem.

Ings and Redmond will have a field day. We literally have no fighters in our squad.

Honestly I could stomach relegation if we gave the kids a chance now, but being relegated with the same drab football is all we will get. It’s going to be painful.

I would love to see Quina, Pedro, Penaranda, Hungbo, Pussetto, Dahlberg and Dele-Bashiru all given a good amount of minutes. However we won’t! It will be the same, hoof to Deeney, rinse and repeat, lose the game, post interviews of the same rhetoric, followed by social media videos of how well the boys have done in training.

Been supporting Watford for 30/31 years now and for the first time (not emotionally, that’s every week) I genuinely feel done with them. Just like the players can’t be bothered to do their jobs and show some fight, I can’t be bothered to watch them anymore.

All that does is reduce the size of our defeat, from a thrashing to a narrow one.

If you've been supporting Watford for 30 years, that means you watched us throughout the 90's. If you can stomach that, then you should be able to accept anything.

I don't disagree at all with what you've said. After all we rely on Troy every time a manager decides to play it safe and play to what should be our strengths. It's just in the case of last night when it's not working you can see the team just fall apart and go lump ball over and over. Even when Gray came on we just did the same to him. Comical, absurd tactics.

This is the wrong way around:
We're not good enough up Front and never have been - only Norwich have scored less goals than us.
and we're not good enough at the Back - 5 teams have conceded more goals than us.

I have been saying this since last season, it's up front that we really need to improve, the defence are not good but our so called attack is WORSE!!!

Would we not have said the same about Burnley last night? The other obvious thing to take from that was Burnley have most of their best players out injured and have nothing in reserve to bring on to change a game! Yet we still somehow decided to balls that up!

Southampton will batter us if we play anything like we did last night. They're much better than Burnley.

If we aren't considerably better or more ruthless in both penalty areas then, not only will we lose this game, we will also slip straight into the Championship.

Agree with this. Wouldn't mind seeing Welbeck play centrally and stick JP out on the left, interchanging with DW.

I also think we need to stick Doucoure back in alongside Capoue and play Pereyra centrally behind the striker. I think he's better there as we saw in the Wolves semi-final last season.

I won’t bother watching, we were spineless last night. Too many players who are prepared to sit back and let others take responsibility. No one is prepared to step up and take the lead.

Is it fair to call this a ‘must-win’ game? We’ll really be running out of chances if we don’t.

Depends on if we win or not.

If we lose, then Chelsea is the must win game, although that's a free hit game so it would be Norwich as the next must win game.

If we win, then it was a must win game that we won which means we don't have to win at Chelsea which also makes Norwich a must win but one we don't have to win as West Ham would become the designated must win game.

Burnley was a "must win game"
Soton is a "really must win game"
Chelsea is an "absolutely essential to win game"
Norwich is a "it really doesn't matter anymore game".
    You're welcome.

I don't think the result matters so much as the performance. A solid performance to give us confidence at this stage of the season.

I'll he happy as long as we keep it close and only lose by fine margins.

We do have Norwich, Newcastle, West Ham and Arsenal to come after this in terms of 'winnable' games, so I don't think that any game this early on with the position we're in can be literally defined as 'must win'. For what it's worth, I'd say if we win at the weekend, we go to about 80% likely to stay up, draw, about 50%, but if we lose, we might be looking at having to get at least 8 points from those 4 games, especially we lose as expected to Chelsea and City, and results elsewhere go against us. Of course it's also very possible that we won't need that many points at all to stay up, as we probably have the most favourable run-in and everyone else is as rubbish as we are

Round of applause for TVOR for being the lone brave single voice crying out into the darkness having noticed that every striker we have is sh*t. Why didn't any of the rest of us see it?!

  25. We're getting zilch from City or Chelsea except -10 on our goal difference.

And this side is as likely to crumble against Arsenal and Wet Spam as anything.

So yes this is now a must win, as is Norwich and Newcastle at home. Lets hope 37 points is enough. Lose and I doubt 34 points is enough.

Bloody hell, that looks budget. What has possessed them to do that? It's not like there's a vast swell of passing trade at the stadium outside of match days, and there are only so many fans looking for iced buns to take onto the terraces with them.

Running the permutations for this one don't give much optimism.

The players we have seen just don't have enough in them, however we shuffle the deck.

Capoue looked spent during both our last 2 games, our defence is still as weak as it ever was and Kiko seems to have put his Pearson renaissance form to bed, reverting to type.

Sarr remains a source of some hope, simply because of his pace, but Burnley will have shown Saints how they can afford to focus on him, as we don't have anything else in the team to hurt them.

Welbeck can only improve with games, but not quickly enough without a miracle, and Deeney won't change. He'll be pleased as punch with his tussles with Mee, 50 yards from goal to win a hopeless free kick here and there on Thursday.

Our only faint hope is that somehow Pedro has been hiding a light under a bushel and bursts onto the scene with the same sort of impact Sarr had, once he was unleashed, because our known factors are all pathetic.

A Southampton side half on the beach will comfortably get the win tomorrow, with Redmond scoring his obligatory goal against Watford along the way
