Just thought I'd start a thread about this as it hasn't been posted yet. They have new guy at the helm in Carlos Carvalhal and all I know is he was the old Sheffield Wednesday manger who did guide them into the playoffs last season but was sacked due to poor form this season. I read ion the BBC website that he is "Going for three points" and will not settle for a draw. As for us, it was great to finally get a win again and we played well against Leicester in general despite a poor start to the game, but their goal really made us buck up and play better. Okaka needs to start in my view and if Silva wants to play the same formation then go ahead. 4-4-2 does work for us, much better than 3 at the back. Richie needs a rest - he really does. But the thing is who comes in to replace him? Is Hughes back yet? All reports suggested he was almost match fit but no sign of him as of yet. Swansea are bottom of the table and got totally smashed by an in-form Liverpool last time out - but they may have the "new manager honeymoon period" about them tomorrow so it's not going to be easy for us. We are more than capable of winning this game, and also more than capable of losing it too. Two wins on the bounce will do wonders for confidence and even Lawro had us down to win!!! Btw can somebody tell me how to post images on threads? My prediction: Watford 3 Swansea 1
Let Richie rest v Man City as we won't get anything there, but we need the same team as against Leicester to get the three points tomorrow and yes that means Okaka starting!
1. Save an image to your desktop/phone. 2. Click on 'upload a file' at the bottom of the post you are writing. 3. Click on "choose file" and navigate to the image you want to upload. 4. Select that image. 5. Select the "full image" option (not thumbnail) 6. Image should be inserted. 7. ..... 8. Profit.
Missed Brighton and Lesta. First game back on it. A "should win". They were pants at pool and we should have some confidence back. Head says 2-0 Watford. But we are Watford so anything can happen.
Agree we need to play Okaka. I think it is general knowledge though. that he unfortunately does not have 90 minutes in him. Therefore better in my opinion, rather than starting with him and having to pull him off, to have him on the bench and introduce him further into the match. Was good to see him get a decent run out against Leicester. Don't think bringing him on in the last 10 minutes or so is long enough for him to have much effect, or indeed to do himself justice.
Although I agree for his and Watford's long term benefit it would be best not to burn him out, I see little about the intensity of his play or his fitness which suggests he needs a rest right now.
You don't have to save the photo first, just click the image icon and paste the image url. Here's an example (image picked completely at random)
What happens if the image on the url changes? Does the image change or is it fixed once it's on here? I know with tinypic that I used to use, some images that I linked to sometimes changed.
Not sure about this game, were the Swansea players not playing for Clement? I don’t think that was the case, they just lost the best players from an already struggling team and never replaced them. So just how much of a bounce can the new bloke get? It’s just the sort of game that should be such a foregone conclusion... but we know it never turns out like that (Palace, Huddersfield, Brighton). You’d probably say that if both teams could pick a side to play right now it would probably be very close to being each other.
Back-to-back wins would do wonders for confidence, and is much needed, as 1 win in 9 does not look good whichever way you spin it (assuming Man City go to town on us). Expecting an industrious - if not brilliant - performance and maybe another 2-1 win. This would be my line-up assuming Kiko, Hughes etc. are still unavailable: In our last three games Okaka has played 8, 12 and 46 minutes respectively, so maybe this is where he starts? I would almost be tempted to start Gray, give Okaka another 30-45 minutes from the bench and keep him fresh for the City game, where he may at least give Stones and Otamendi something to think about. Wague spent 90 minutes chasing Vardy on Tuesday having not played for months, so I can see him returning to the bench. Rest Richarlison against City, as others have said.
According to the Beeb Andre Gray scored a hat-trick in his final league appearance of the calendar year in both 2015 and 2016. He's currently 80-1 to score a hat-trick tomorrow. Don't waste your money.
Agreed. Must give Wague another chance as it may impact what we do in January if we believe he can be trusted. Should be enough to win but with the new manager bounce I'm going 1-2 to the swans.
For the reasons stated, and also because Swansea started with a 6'2" target man in their last game. If Wague recovers well enough, play him tomorrow and against City by all means. If not then Silva may have to go with Prodl against City, a terrifying prospect.
Nearly there, think you mean pony and trap, and ass instead on donkey, then you'll be on the right track for Gray.
You are basing Wague on 1 performance and suddenly he's good enough for man city? I'd currently have a fit Prodl in over him any day of the week.
This makes no sense at all. He spent no more time chasing Vardy around than Kabasele? Or Janmaat after Albrighton? Or Zeegelaar after Mahrez? And Prodl has been dreadful since returning from injury. The defence played well on Boxing Day so should be left alone. Wague was given a chance and took it, so should not be dropped. Is Prodl a better player? Almost certainly yes but he is terribly off-form and needs to work his way back in, not have it handed to him. And Swansea did not start a ‘target-man’ in their last game. McBurnie may be 6’2 but he had a poor game chasing shadows and was dealt with easily by a poor Liverpool defence. And he certainly couldn’t be classed as full of muscle or a handful.
I was merely pointing out that Wague played the full 90 against a tough opponent having not played since September, so it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't start. What part of that doesn't make sense?
It doesn’t make sense for all the reasons I have already given. True, he hadn’t played since September - but that was true before Boxing Day and he coped. I think he’ll cope with Swansea. I do understand the reasons behind what you are saying but I think it’s silly to be trying to save players for City away. If they can only play one of the two games, it’s tomorrow where they should play given the chances at City.
Really? Did you watch Brighton? Prodl is in terrible form at the moment. He has been a liability at the back recently.
Silva said he went with Wague against Leicester as he has now learned what Siva is expecting in his training and he also has pace to deal with Vardy and co! For me why change a winning team? If everyone has recovered sufficiently they play. Worry about the Man City game Sunday, we play Swansea first so that is our first concern, winning against them! Take our chances WATFORD win 3-0! And have a Happy New Year! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
3-1. Watford Okaka , Rich and Janmat to score Okaka really needs to start , if only to shut up us fans What’s all this talk of us getting nothing from city, Swansea is going to be a show of force and then we are going on to beat City 2-0
We’ve actually already beaten Swansea in each of our three seasons back in the PL. Along with West Ham, they’ve been our most profitable opponents. The two previous meetings at the Vic ended 1-0. They were our first victory back at this level two seasons ago, then our final win (and indeed points) under Mazarri last year before our run of six straight defeats to end the season.
Another win would make up for that 4 match spell but a draw wouldn't be that awful. No easy games and the players need to start on the front foot and not just go through the motions. Also keep discipline...
Alas I dd not, nor Leicester. So I can't really comment on either to be honest. Just feels like everyone is calling this guy the new hope based on 1 performance.
You have to play players on form. Wague is in form. Prodl is not. He still needs to get over whatever niggle he has because he's a shadow of the player he can be and was last season. Ditto for Pereyra. It's a real shame because those two players fit are real quality.
