I wholeheartedly agree with your middle paragraph, that would be sweet indeed. I hope and pray it happens, I just can't see it.

I only moan about him on here though, I'm not one to boo and abuse players at the match, and if he does start scoring I will cheer my heart out and deny all knowledge of these posts....

I don't like the place, don't like their fans and particularly don't like their ground. Yes, they were our local rivals. But 'hate' them? It's a very strong word; I just don't think about them and haven't done for years. I don't understand those who keep dredging up chants involving them. Way past time to move on.

Giving the boys some credit today, we had three excellent chances to score today the Richarlison header the Capoue header and what should have been a stone wall pen on chalobah. We played against a team which are favorites to win the league and tipped to do well in the champions. I can live with shipping 6 goals on an off day with half the defence missing but our attack still gives me hope for the games against lesser clubs. I would like to see Gray given a rest for a few games and maybe stick Zarate in.

Oddly, it's our attack that worries me a bit. The midfield already looks very strong, the defence is being sorted out bit by bit (well I think it is - but it's by no means the finished article). I'm not saying the attack is poor and I'm not saying it's good - I'm just not sure. If Spurs can't break down the Swansea defence - can we? (OK Spurs had some refereeing issues too). Probably should ask this on the next match thread.

What, move on to hating Bournemouth or Palace for no real reason other than they beat us then?

The hatred for the scum is deep rooted in a lot of people because of the history of the rivalry and violence.

Yes singing songs about a largely irrelevent team now is maybe less worth it, but for a lot of people there are simply things from the past that cannot be forgotten for at least a generation.

It's very early days and personally I am undecided about Gray but first impressions are not great. Rather than him being an ex-Luton player I think the reason he may be given a shorter time to impress the supporters are the reports of his somewhat dubious character in the past. Now we know from the experience with Deeney that giving someone a second chance can have great consequences so I think Gray should have that chance too, but he does have to produce on the pitch.

Yesterday there were three moments at 0-0 when he was almost clear on goal: the first pass was slightly too long for him, the second was cut out by a full-stretch City defender and the third he mis-controlled. We have yet to see him have a clear one on one chance to see if he can put it away. Beyond that he will eventually score a goal of some description which might just take a weight off his shoulders that could be there because of the big transfer, worry about losing his place in the team etc. I shall wait for one or both of these scenarios to happen before I decide about him.

It may have been mentioned already but aside from the obvious difference in the quality and value of the teams (they brought Sane, Gudogan and Bernado Silva off the bench ffs!!!) we should also consider the difference in time spent together.

I think 8 or 9 of their starting line up were ever presents last season.

3, maybe 4 of ours were part of the starting 11.

I think we have the individual brilliance to beat or at least compete with lesser teams but it will take a bit of time for these players to gel and start to keep up with the better teams in the league.

A lot of mistakes yesterday will be cut out with a bit of time together.

So now that we have lost 6-0 to the best team in the league, I reckon the Pundits and Merson have gone back to tipping us off for relegation, It was fun whilst it lasted guys...

Reasons to hate luton. In no particular order:

    Crap place.

    Plastic pitch.

    Membership scheme banning away fans.

David Evans. Obnoxious ex Chairman responsible for items 2 and 3.

David Pleat doing his silly jig in his beige suit and beige shoes.

    David Pleat's tailor.

    David Pleat's choreographer.

    Mockney accent.

The Luton Bobbers. This has always annoyed me ever since I first went to Kenilworth Rd as a kid.

    Arrogant ***** fans.

    Easyjet.

    Vauxhall Motors.

    The M1.

    Orange shirts.

Having an alley running next to the ground full of dogshit.

    Conservatories as Executive Boxes.

People who chant "pussy, pussy" thinking it is menacing when in fact it sounds pathetically camp.

    Eric Morecambe.

    Nick Owen.

Luton Outlaws site, where every fan thinks he is a right 'ard *******, and a diamond geezer.

Luton Outlaws site where every fan thinks he's clever and street wise.

Old school fans of Luton in the fifties and sixties wearing straw boaters at FA Cup games.

    The Kohlerdome.

Giving it large before we played them and then bottling it when they realised they could be on the end of a hiding.

That chant they do when they say "Come on you 'atters". It's got a ******* "h" at the start of the word you illiterate, mockney, wannabee, ********

    Plus loads of other stuff.

I was amazed to see a bloke amongst the City fans who was probably in his early 30's and missing most of his teeth. He was like something from a 1960's kitchen sink drama. Remarkable.

    My observations so far...

8 points from 5 games is a solid start from us.
Yesterday wasn't a total surprise with only Holebas a certain starter in the defence that was fit. Though officials ineptitude has ruined our goal difference!
We will always struggle defensively with teams that pass and move like Liverpool, Spurs, and Man City. Sometimes we have to be realistic of how good our players are.
Gray i'm unsure about at the moment, as away from the so called 'top 6', he's only had 3 games. So I need to see more of him before I can make a judgement on him.

Thought Gomes was weak in dealing with the cross for their second goal..... effectively killed us off

City superb, hardly misplaced a pass all game

    Positives

    No one sent off

No one injured.... Janmaat full 90 mins and Bobby P back

We wont play against many teams better than City this season

Move on to the next one

I don't give a toss that he played for Luton. I know I'm in the minority here, but as things currently stand the rivalry is meaningless to me.

True, but still, £18m! It's just a vast sum for a team like us. Not his fault of course.

Not only that, this guy just has nothing going for him.

Hardly an issue. His Championship record means even if he flops completely here and doesn't score a goal we'd recoup £12-£15m of that easily from a Villa or Leeds or the like.

There was also more than a few who wrote Doucoure off last season after acouple of indifferent starts before being dropped. Seems to be the norm everywhere in football nowadays
