They won't though - VAR has favoured them more than any other team, and we've probably been one of the few teams to have been unduly penalised by it.

This isn't just sour grapes, it's true that they're finishing the season stronger than us, but considering some of the big decisions over the entirety of the season it's difficult to look past that if the margin by which we go down is just a few points to them.

Why sack a coach, and then leave everything the same, under the next one? Why, when we've played the same way against City we have shipped 14 goals and scored none, do we play in exactly the same way again - sit back and let them tippy-tappy at will? Why do we start with Deeney and Pereyra, one who can't be arsed, and the other can barely walk? Why do we not make substitutions when it can make a difference?

Why have we seemed to have had a series of coaches without a brain cell between them?

Games like these make relegation a bit less depressing IMO. At least in the championship the playing field is somewhat level, it's so boring watching us get hammered by a team funded by a nation state.

5 years ago muff, watford and Norwich were promoted in that order. It's perfectly possible now that we go down in the same order we came up.

Yep I’m aware how utterly tragic we are against Man City. Regardless it’s a crap system where a team can cost 5 times more than their opponents. It’s a pointless league unless you support one of the top 6 and if some of them aren’t careful it won’t even be as many as 6 soon.

We’ve had five years of huffing and puffing, we go back to the championship to try and get back again to huff and puff again! That’s life!

As I said, they do now, they've finished the season strongly, but that hasn't been the case for the entirety of the season - they've also had more luck than us, undoubtedly.

Leicester broke into the top 6. Wolves and Sheffield United have given it a good go and will likely press on further next season.

Good management gets you a long way. A dream to do it can get you further.

We had the chance last year. We sacrificed a run for 7th for a battering in the FA Cup final.

I would love to agree but this past season has been nothing close to huffing puffing. It’s been a wheeze by an asthmatic with lung cancer.

Anyone else not sad about relegation?

Frustrated at how avoidable it was but not sad? 8 extra games, every game winnable or losesable (not a word I know), Tuesday night games, hopefully some youth. In most cases something riding on the season till the last game, The Championship is great.

Yeah I’ll miss quality players like Deulofeu & Sarr but if Joao Pedro or Sonny Lo Everton rip it up in the Championship it’ll fill me with way more pride.

There is not redeeming quality about this side right now apart from the effort of Will Hughes.

I’m not sure financially muff will be a better position than us, they still owe 80 million for their current players, many of which will be up for sale if they go down!

Quite right we did. It’s backing what I’m saying about being in this league. You’re in a competition where you cannot win it. So these little achievements get created. 7th? You go into a competition hoping and dreaming you might get 7th place? (Not you personally, I mean the generic ‘you’). It’s a pointless league unless you can spend at least half a billion, which we can’t.

Oh I agree. Winning it is beyond a team like us.

However, gradual improvement is not. We easily had the potential to be a top 10 team with a route to a European competition. And that was just last season.

As a fan, all I ask for is progression in that regard and if it doesn't work, so be it. At least we tried. That hasn't been the case this season and hasn't been for a while.

I agree with you on this completely.

I have 2 sides to my anger and disappointment.

This ridiculously uneven league but also how much we’ve blown the chance to at least do something. I’d love to see us win a cup or go into Europe and it wouldn’t have taken too much to give us the potential to do so.

Theres always a chance we stay up of course but my god we thoroughly deserve to go down.

    However;

VAR dog **** decisions certainly have made a difference this season. Just the Villa goal line technology incident might be the difference.

Actually forgot that we played tonight. That performance stunk of a team who know they're down and don't give a ****. City are a top side but we can't even control the ball/pass the ball correctly. Pathetic.

Yes ZZ, saw that passive approach again today. Was perplexed by HM’s comments about being compact but being positive against MC. Not one of the players had an out ball to any runners. Like Villa tonight against Arsenal they had outlets breaking away but Sarr is on his own or Deeney can’t pick a pass. Doucoure couldn’t trap a slug, it always seems to bounce off him and it’s either Clevs or Hughes who have to take the bait for lost possession.
No idea what had happened to Capoue either? He can cut defences with his passes and nothing has been disclosed about his situation. Injury?
Deeney, who is clearly carrying an injury gets picked over Welbeck who has fought himself to fitness in this season and wants to get himself involved. Had no idea why Troy was starting that game, if he was “player-coach”, I would have dropped myself for the game to Hayden

Muff are screwed even if they somehow contrive to stay up. They’ve not invested in their infrastructure and have wasted money on crap players on the whole. I’d be impressed if they don’t drop down a division next year.

if Norwich can keep most of their team I agree, That was their whole point in not spending loads of money. And they know their style of football will work in the champ.

It kind of sums of modern football that they finish bottom and were probably one the best run clubs. If only some oligarch had spent £150m they would have survived - but at what cost?

I’m looking forward to the championship. Not saying we’ll bounce back season 1, but the players the Pozzo’s will bring in will be of a level to get us knocking on the door every season.

First thing we need to do is sort out our finances and get all the high earners off the wage bill with the possible exception of Gray given his scoring record in the champo. Our 2nd aim has to be avoiding relegation to league 1. We need to get Troy's me me me narcissism out of the club so we can build a proper team. His self obsessed 'leadership' has failed us. Giraldi needs to go. We need to get back to our values as a club and stop pretending we are something we are not. We didnt need to pretend to be something else when we already had a great identity. The Gang of 3 got blinded by the lights and ended up falling on their a$$es. They lost the plot and the club has paid the price. The decisions made since Wolves have been abysmal: trying to rebrand the club, the 'international' fan base farce, not paying bonuses, keeping Deeney as ego in chief, not addressing the squad weaknesses, having a goalkeeper who goes down more times than a Bangkok ho. No leadership on the pitch or in the boardroom and the QSF brainfart. They turned a solid base into a house of cards in just a few months. Personally, I feel if relegation doesnt bankrupt us it might just save the fabric and dna of the club that was being destroyed by the moneymen. We can rebuild as a community club, without Troy we can rebuild a team ethic and thank God we will play next season at the vic rather than in a souless half empty arena that would have been the final nail in the coffin. As long as we can get our finances in order and rebuild the squad with hungry younger players maybe, just maybe we'll get our club back.

Agree it would be an opportunity to get rid of the deadwood but we could do that anyway. The problem will be keeping these useless c$nts to many individuals that don’t play for the team. The players who have tried will be sold. Hughes for example will attract interest from a west ham Brighton Leeds maybe we will be left with Cleverley janmatt and co that won’t be able to play 2 games a week. Then we’re relying on the team that got done by tranmere.

Has anyone put a price on giraldis head yet.? I may start a go fund me page.

I'm surprised there has not been more said about the penalty. Not so much Oliver giving it, as that's par for the course with him, but Hughes' reaction to it. It's just typical of a Watford player to meekly accept a decision. What the hell's wrong with them? He got a toe to the ball, therefore I should not have been a penalty.

I can understand Oliver giving it, but if Hughes had made more of an issue about, drawing VAR's attention to it, it may have been overruled. The way he acted, was guilty as charged. We are our own worst enemy at times.

    Sky said that as well.

What about the Mariappa "save" though?

    Was that a penalty?

Won’t happen, but they should ban the champions league qualifiers from the league cup. That way it gives us norms a chance of winning something every year with 7th in the league not being the pinnacle of success for a club like ours.

Ok, it would make it even more tin pot, but at the moment the bigger clubs use it as yet another means to their advantage, by playing their B-teams and giving them game time, only to still win it anyway.

That's not really what I'm saying. The point is, our players have to be far more demonstrative. The game is being showed live. TV pick up all these things. If Hughes made it obvious he got a toe to the ball, the VAR official would have looked for it. We all know they are pretty useless, so these things need pointing out.

It could have been overruled on a technical point. Just like the FOUR handball goals we've conceded. I don't really remember our players pointing it out.....maybe the Ali one was, but not the others.

...but to answer your question, the Mariappa one was not overruled as it was a judgement call. Mapps did clearly handle it, and I would not have had any complaints had it been given, however, his arms were in a natural position close to his body. VAR is unlikely to overrule that and give a penalty, nor would it have overruled and stopped a penalty had Oliver given it. It was one of those 50/50 ones.

I think a lot of Watford fans are so sick to death of some of these players they are looking forward to seeing the squad dismantled even if it requires relegation to do it. I just dont wanna watch our moronic thug 'talisman'(LOL) #9 or PSGs finest (LOL) Doucoure go through the motions of their piss poor shadows of their former selves any more.
