‘Under your skin’ or ‘stuck in your craw’.

‘Under your claw’ was a clever twist. He had his claws out tonight, so I thought would use that adage and change it slightly. I’m wasted on here.

You really do have a thin skin hb1. I'm never particularly gunning for you at all. But I will 'pick up on it' when you spout garbage from some self-entitled position of supposed wisdom.

    So to be clear:

    1. I've agreed with you throughout this season that we've been on the receiving end of bad decisions. The whole forum is agreed on that. The disagreement has been over the extent of that with you consistently putting the maximum yellow gloss on it. Entirely subjective and with not even a modicum of an attempt to step outside yourself and try and be more objective.

    2. We now have the Dms objective table. It indicates figures closer to mine than yours. OK, when it's convenient, I'll take a look at the two posts you've asked me to consider but I won't be busting a gut to do so. I fully expect to find something spurious in your attempt at self-justification.

    3. There is firm evidence that officials' decisions have favoured big teams in the past. Seeing as VAR has to a large extent simply 'backed up' the onfield decision (particularly up until Game Week 9 (including Spuds v WFC)) then you might expect that bias to continue into VAR. But, somewhat counter-intuitively, the initial indications from this objective study would appear to show that's not the case.

    4. The Gooners have fared two points worse than us and are way worse off than the rest of the 'top six'.

    5. Of the 14 'also rans' we are significantly worse off than all the rest.

    Anything there to disagree with?

Ooo.. red card for Aubameyang !

    Well was it ?

Tbf he seemed resigned to it and certainly the tackle looked late and nasty.

Yes it was, but good to see Zaha doing his usual diving antics in the final minute. Can't believe the referee didn't book him. Cheating c***.

Was just going to post exactly that. Awful how often he falls over. Really should see someone about his balance problems.

It's a real bizarre problem he has. It only happens in that box where the opposition goal is. Anywhere else he's a strong as an ox, impossible to push over. Must be something like Kryptonite for Superman. When he gets close to the goal he loses all his power. I think they must paint the goals in some sort of chemical which effects Zaha. It's the only thing I can think of.

Considering he nearly took the guy's leg off at the ankle, pretty sure it was a red. Like, the most obvious red you'll ever see. Probably two reds if it was possible. Disgraceful challenge.

VAR would have half a chance of bedding in if chumps like Jeff Stelling and Phil Thompson bothered to learn how it works rather than slagging it off.

Whining like mad both of them all afternoon, but Thompson can’t explain the offside rule and Stelling totally misrepresented VAR’s role in not overruling a penalty at Old Trafford.

Yep, like the absolute weapons amongst us that think VAR is a self aware PC, you have the TV equivalent of grumpy old men moaning that the game is moving on.

We have had an example in the Everton Brighton game of a player not going down despite being pulled from behind ..

No penalty given whilst other penalties have been given for slight touches according to the BBC but went to ground

VAR has many flaws, particularly in the way it’s being administered at the moment, but you’re right Stelling made a complete idiot of himself today with his blinkered comments.

This is the great failing in refereeing in today’s game, VAR or not. Fouls must be punished, whether or not the player falls over, otherwise they’re only encouraging diving.

The fact that this went to VAR and the penalty still wasn’t given is disgusting. It was a clear and obvious foul and just because the player didn’t fall over like he’d been shot no foul given.

I watched Soccer Saturday yesterday for the first time in ages and I was astonished how Jeff Stelling didn’t know what VAR was for

They also checked for a handball in the build up. But that doesn't fit the narrative.

Nice to hear Jeff Stelling and all Leeds fans moaning about the handball in the build up to Wells' goal for QPR.

Same as the Declan Rice one. But it's Leeds and it doesn't fit the narrative that if they had VAR, it's disallowed.

Just watching MOTD, I enjoyed watching Paul Tierney checking the pitch side monitor. Much more of this needs to happen, it makes the delay much more acceptable, it creates some suspense and ultimately makes the decision a lot more palatable either way.

  25. WillisWasTheWorst

WillisWasTheWorst Its making less grammar mistake's thats important

Does it? It’s fashionable just now to say refs should use the pitch-side monitor but they will only use it if prompted to by VAR. The implication, therefore, is: “you’ve made a mistake; have another look and you’ll see you should change your decision”. It would take a very strong-minded ref to not change it in those circumstances. Also, the delay is potentially longer because the VAR is checking first and then the ref. The only possible benefit is that the on-field ref is at least seen to make the final decision but “it creates some suspense” is not what is required.

The 4th official did well to prevent the players crowding the official at the time and it was next to the dug out as well.

Ours seems to be the on the GT stand side unless there is one by the dug out I haven't noticed!

How did the VAR official not see Ajeti's motion to the head towards Holgate not deemed violent conduct ? The mind boggles. Human frailty again in the decision making. Up for the FA to check it now.

Totally agree that by a VAR official telling the referee to check his monitor implies he feels he made a mistake, but it does build in another check and at least the on-field official will decide, which I think is correct.

It’s either the VAR official deciding it’s a red card or the referee having another look at it and deciding for himself.

Given that there must be occasions when there’s a potentially game changing decision to be made, and the ref himself knows that he’s not entirely sure what happened, could he simply stop the game, without indicating a decision and use the technology available to him to get it right?

  30. UEA_Hornet

    UEA_Hornet First Team Captain

No, not under the current rules. The referee must make a decision before VAR will review it.

    Thanks.

I wonder if giving the ref that option would help clear some things up and restore some faith in the system, given that the ref can basically guess on a decision, and then have VAR back that decision up because it’s not wrong enough to change.

That said, I guess you get into the territory of managers/coaches and players wanting and harassing the ref to check every single decision they aren’t happy with.

Interesting one in the Spurs v Man City game.

Aurier tackle on Aguero in the box which Mike Dean said wasn’t a foul. Play carried on for 2 minutes and the ball didn’t go out so, in the end, Dean had to stop play once it was in no mans land at one end and give the penalty awarded by VAR.

It’s normally the case VAR doesn’t intervene until play stops but I guess there was no choice there.

  33. hornetboy1

Lloris advanced off his line before making the save, which he's not allowed to do. The penalty should have been retaken, however, a keeper rushing off his line cannot be reviewed by VAR, even though the follow up was reviewed. They must have seen what Lloris did but was not allowed to tell Mike Dean about it.

VAR is just a joke, being used by jokers.

Hilarious stuff. How can play be allowed to continue for over 2 minutes? Suppose Spurs had scored a goal in that time; there would be a riot. Utter nonsense.

Yup, they’ve got into a right mess with the goalkeeper off his line thing. It was obvious too.
