Someone said in another thread that it's to give the impression that the seats aren't empty on TV etc (most Italian stadiums aren't too packed these days)
Exactly. Last season particularly Udinese was, depressingly, last in serie A for attendance in Stadio Friuli with an average of 8500 per match. The hope is that with the new stadium (and hopefully a better season for results) people will go again to watch matches but it was a sensible move to avoid, in TV, the depressing sight of half empty stands.
