Transfer window to change.

Title of this thread is pretty misleading according to the BBC this morning:

Article singles us out as opposed and suggests we might consider a legal challenge if changes were made.

I think it would be great. But only if the rest of europe do the same. If they don't, then it's bloody stupid.

But that can only work if all European leagues start on the same day. Can't see that happening.

We share the same transfer window now, we get an extra day i think. We don't all start on the same day.

Exactly. So, if we want to move the closure of the window to the start of the season, we don't get the same closure day across Europe unless all leagues start at the same time. The PL started on 11/8 but the Bundesliga starts this weekend. If each closes their window the day before the start of the season, the Germans get an extra week to buy British (and other) players.

Yes, there is an alternative, I suppose. You could shift the cross-Europe date back 3 weeks or a month - say to 31 July - so that it fell before the start of any leagues. But that doesn't seem to be what is being discussed here and would clubs want this to happen if, say, their competitive fixtures did not start for another three weeks after the window shut?

Either way, I agree it doesn't make much sense unless all of Europe does the same thing.

If everyone has the same transfer window deadline, they wouldn't have an extra week. That's what I'm suggesting. We currently the share the same transfer deadline. If we move ours back, it would only be beneficial if the other teams that share our deadline also move theirs back to the same date as ours.

I don't think the leagues would have to start at the same time.

Right, so that is more like the scenario in my second posting?

As I say, it seems to me that the snag with that is that it would push some European clubs too far back into their close seasons?

If you closed the window the day before the start of the earliest league, that would reduce the problem a bit - but would (say) a German club consider it fair that an English team could buy right up to the start of their season, but German clubs are frozen a week, or maybe two, before their season starts?

Maybe it is no more unfair than what we have now.

This summer of the major leagues French Ligue 1 started on the weekend 5th August, the Premier League 12th, Bundesliga, La Liga & Serie A 19th. I imagine that most of the others, excluding any Scandinavian leagues which run through the summer, starts on one of those weekends
