On the flip side, spuds should of had a pen after Janmaart’s ridiculous chest challenge on Maura. He’s a blinking liability, that boy.
He gives us a goal threat though. I'll take the odd defensive lapse for a few goals a season. I prefer him to kiko.
Success booked for diving at Woking and for having a tantrum at a kid who wouldn't give him the ball back... His mental age of 6 is holding him back from being a good player.
I've just noticed that Zaha got booted a few times and then got a red card for sarcastic applause last night. That makes me feel better about losing to spurs. Hahaha.
Despite losing 2-1 and being in the lead for a fair bit, it was a pretty poor performance, we've played much much better - if Kane and Ali were there we'd of lost by 3 or 4. Without Doucoure we're quite weak in midfield. Not quite sure what the game plan was last night either, it seemed to be defend and then hoof forwards with no purpose. RP should've gone off rather than Delefou who was actually creating chances. I like Wilmott but was an odd substitution to make. All in all a piss poor game. Brighton on Saturday, hopefully any snow between now and then doesn't **** up the match/transport.
He was on the touchline ready to come on just as Spuds equalised. Worst impact ever - didn't even need to be on the pitch to make the defence crumble.
Hear, hear! As others have said the Deulofeu substitution was a mistake - he was our most dangerous player and was working very hard - but surely the man who needed to come off was Pereyra who contributed nothing?
Yep, Spurs did their homework, RP doesn't like the physical aspect of the game and a few kicks and pushes was enough to keep him silent.
Pereyra needs to be dropped, he's been missing since December. He isn't getting on the ball enough to influence games and he's not physical nor moving enough off it to create space for others to justify his lack of recent end product. I'd give Penaranda a chance there, or maybe even Sema as that would at least be on his stronger foot.
I was nodding sagely until I read Sema, now I'm in a murderous rage at the very thought of dropping our argentinian superstar for that useless oaf.
Just about warmed up now and still annoyed because it was there to be won. I like Gracia and I think he's doing a great job but there was an odd sub last night. Delefeou going off was very strange and he must wonder why it keeps happening when behind him are Hughes and Pereyra who are having shockers. He created an outlet which stopped Spurs throwing more in to attack. As soon as he went off they pushed further up the pitch. I would be very tempted to not play Pereyra in the bigger games as he just isn't strong enough defensively. I would have preferred Sema last night as he at least will work very hard. We really miss Doucoure. Cleverley did ok but probably isn't quite match fit yet. I thought Success was slightly better when he came on although should have done better with the chance to put us two up. What I don't understand about him is that when he was at Granada he used to run at defenders and woth his pace and strength it was a real asset but he seems to have stopped doing it now As for Spurs, Son always plays well against us and actually I think he was the one they missed the most recently. Everything good came through him, especially in the first half
Agree with all of that (apart from the sema for pereyra bit, obvs - sema is dung). And that's a very good point about success. He ran at players when he was first with us too. He terrified teams when he came on as sub back then. It must have been coached out of him somewhere along the line. A real shame. Subbing deulofeu early every match will see him out the door. The only reason he's at a club like ours is if he can be the big star and the first name on the teamsheet. I'm happy to oblige him. Coming off early game after game for a succession of useless sacks of shyt must really irk him.
Unless I’m getting it all wrong, I felt as though one of the reasons Success made such a decent impact as a sub at the start of the season was his willingness/ability to get the ball under control and turn to run at the opposition, causing all kinds of panic and making room for a shot, cross, or forward pass. Speaking for myself, those little glimpses of power and drive earlier this season were what had me thinking he’d turned a corner and was ready to play more regularly. His performance against Spurs in the cup at MK had me calling for him to start because it looked like he was about to be a real handful for opposing defenders. It’s almost as though he’s been hanging around Troy too much, and now he’s obsessed with trying to play billy big balls with his back to goal, holding the ball up and playing for free kicks. Agree 100% regarding Deloufeu as well.
Sat with the home fans. The crowd would have been 25k if it wasn’t for the hordes of Koreans attending the game. Boy were they excitable
Why is a supposed top 6 team like Tottenham only managing 30k at home? I know we aren't exactly glamour tie material but quite frankly you'd think even if some of the plastics who purport to support spurs actually went youd fill the place Absolutely pathetic. Fair weather supporters.
I love watching Janmaat play. I understand the stick he gets defensively to an extent (he's a bit rash but not a bad defender by any means), but think we look a far more fluid attacking force with him in the team. He's seriously good going forwards. Issue is so is Holebas, bit exposed at the back at times!
Surely, the major problem was the majority of their players were, man for man, better than ours. Not all of them it is true. They played a fast accurate game and were definitely up for it. Watford, particularly our midfield, found it difficult to cope. That's what can happen when you play a top 6 club. The fact Spurs took 80 mins to score indicates both how well-organised is our much-criticised defence (credit to Gracia) and how much Spurs rely on Kane and Ali. Son was the MOTM. It's all very well criticising players for not doing this or not doing that with him, but, as anybody who has played in defence against a player who is much better than you will know, it's just very difficult to stop him. He is two-footed, very skilful, fast and full of energy. I've always thought he was good, but he just seems to be getting better and better. I don't blame the Koreans for being very excitable - he's their man. I agree about the Delefeou substitution. However, criticising the substitutions is OK up to a point, but I imagine Gracia could see what was happening and tried to do something. Since we had been successful in defence for so long I suppose he thought he'd try to shore it up and hang on. We were 10 mins from getting away with it, which is good in a way, but doubly frustrating and disappointing in the end. Maybe he should have opted to fling more attacks at them, but there wasn't a huge amount of evidence that would work. Peyrera was disappointing and I would have to say I would have had him off instead of Delef.
Probably the biggest disappointment for me was the toddler-tantrum, oath-ridden behaviour of some of our supporters, running up and down the aisle screaming abuse at Spurs supporters and stewards alike, their faces contorted with hatred and anger. And they were by no means all teenagers, either. Grow up and gain some self-control and dignity, FFS. Definitely not people I would want anywhere near me in the trenches!
Selfish generation X-ers. Afraid to grow up. Over-fed and over-weight. They get off their faces and get gobby. I suppose it makes them feel special.
Sorry to hear about that - I didn’t experience it myself. However a number of the (non-Korean) Spurs fans were a charmless lot on the way back to the station, with their anti-Semitic chant that they claim is ironic.
I saw this too, so yet again we have been robbed by bad refereeing as they should have been reduced to 10 men, which would have made their late comeback a lot less likely to have happened . Furthermore Success should never have been yellow carded for trying to get the ball away from that little scroat of a ball boy, the little **** tucked the ball under his arm and tried to walk away with it instead of returning it into play. He should be banned from being a ball boy from now on and Spurs should be censured in some way for failing to control their staff.
I wish e'd grabbed it in the first minute and hung on to it, then I wouldn't have had to witness that cr*p.
Central midfield just didn't function. I'd be tempted to put Quina in v Brighton if Doucs is not fit. He can retain the ball and pass even if he's not a big unit. The Del issue - we need 2 of him so he can play up front and instead of Pereyra.... Only pace in the team.
