2 daft Liverpool fans managed to visit the wrong Belgium city so missed seeing Liverpool playing in Genk.

Mind you they still got a free VIP trip to another game out of it but won't feel too great having spent all that money to not see the game live.

Have you ever turned up at the wrong place or at the wrong time for any sporting event?

Or we can widen it to any event!!!!

I drove 170 mile round trip to Stevenage to watch a Watford pre season friendly...... it was the next day. I didn't bother doing the trip again. IDIOT.

I once went nearly as far as Sudbury on the farthest reaches of the Piccadilly Line before realising the cricket team for which I was supposed to be playing actually had its match in Sunbury-on-Thames.

I did turn up, too late to play, of course, and had the piss rightly ripped out of me.

TBF to the Scousers, Ghent is a much better known place than Genk.

I've turned up to the Vic a few times wrongly expecting to see my team play their part in a sporting event.

A mate of mine missed the 1984 FA Cup QF at Birmingham after 4 of us had arranged to meet at Birmingham New St station before the game. I had all 4 tickets. T'was the days b4 mobile phones. He waited for us at Birmingham International station until about an hour after kick off before just heading home to Bristol. We felt guilty at the time as we only gave him about 20 mins at BNS before heading off so were delighted to hear he'd gone to the wrong station.

My dad swears he had a meeting in Northampton arranged with a Chinese customer who was staying in London seeing as it’s pretty much half way between his work and London. The guy rang him from Southampton train station asking for directions to the restaurant.

This story cracked me up at the time though a shame it happened to an 83 year old...

I was sitting an exam at Uni and remember looking around the room and didn't recognise anyone. It was about 5 minutes before the exam was about to start that I suddenly remembered that the exam was on the 4th floor and I was sitting in an exam room on the 3rd floor. I jumped up like a loony and sprinted upstairs just making it in time to start my actual exam. Can't believe I passed that in the end, my head and nerves were all over the place.

My mother has been staying with us while she has some work done at her house (or rather I do work at her house to save money) and has had serious problems navigating the town where we live. She took a wrong turn making her way through Melton the other day and ended up near Grantham. If you’re not familiar that’s one hell of a wrong turn.

I found the above story when i was looking for the more famous story of 2 ladies getting heaviliy involved in a chat while driving from Glasgow to Edinburgh (i think) and ending up pulling over and asking for help near Liverpool. Couldn't find it though.

Another genuine story, a friend of mine went on a holiday with his dad to San Jose, Mexico and by mistake flew to San Jose, Costa Rica.

After a night out in London, I caught a late night train from Euston to watford and fell asleep. I ended up in Birmingham.

So I sat waiting for a mail train at 4am back to Watford. Fell asleep, and ended back in Euston.

When I was about 14 and staying with my godparents in Croxley Green, I went to London on my own to watch Best, Charlton et al play Fulham. I found myself in the Fulham Road, asked my way to the ground and, of course, had an opportunity to watch Chelsea reserves.

Got to Fulham towards the end of the first half. Can't remember how many goals I missed, but I think Man Utd won 4-0.

One similar experience of that for me but wasn't my fault:

Drove up to the Reebok in Bolton (the game live on TV where we lost 2-1 thanks to Robert Page having 2 brain farts) - used the directions in the last Watford programme. Arrived at the destination which was a building site - the club had printed the directions to Burnden Park.

Another time, drove down to Gillingham (had a new stereo with a 6 CD changer installed so was blasting toons all the way there) - got a great parking spot, walked to the ground and noticed very little human activity. Asked a local and he told me the game had been postponed that morning - had I been listening to the radio I would have saved myself a wasted 5 hour round trip.

Did that for Wimbledon on a Boxing Day in the Lewington era (maybe ?)

Went to the replayed game - was 0-0.

    Very 0-0!

Belgium is surely small enough that even if you are in the wrong city, you can still make it to the game?

I used to live in Ashford in Surrey. I was moving house and had a removal company booked. The driver called me to say he'd arrived in Ashford but couldn’t work out my address. He’d just decided to drive to Ashford Kent workout checking the address properly. Luckily for me completion never happened that day (or unluckily it seemed going through it at the time) We were being messed about by my buyer and ended up exchanging and completing about a week later. Managed to get a refund and book another company.

I got lost in the 70s driving to Gillingham. We spotted a car in front with a Gills sticker so followed him..
All the way to his house.

I got lost on the way to Manchester once so I started following a car with a United sticker in the window and ended up in Kent too.

Me and my mate trying to find the Brentford ground in a pre season match followed some fans with scarves to the ground via a trip (following them through the aisles) to a supermarket.

Unsure which pub was for away fans entered ground to find they had no licence to serve alcohol.

Pub on every corner. Failed to have a drink pre kick off!

Not quite to the brief, but a friend of mine invited a group of 12-15 of us to go to Amsterdam for his birthday. He booked the flight and overnight accomodation. We'd all only travelled with hand lugagge so decided to do some things in the city, then check into the hotel after dinner before heading back out. Except he'd somehow booked his own birthday incorrectly, it was for the following week!

So the whole group had to roam the streets of Amsterdam on a Saturday night in summer trying to find available rooms! We ended up spread across 5 hostels. I shared a room with 2 blokes from who knows where, I didn't speak their language and they didn't speak English. The friend was a Luton fan.
