And 2 players could have been sent off ...

Even missed a foul in the lead up to the Everton equaliser..

Na, that was Van Dijk trying to take out Bolasie to end the counter attack and completely mucking it up.

It is comfortably the worst season I can ever recall for refereeing standards and also decision consistency. Players have tried to cheat for so many years without retrospective action that people are accepting of it now. A hardline approach is the only answer, clamp down and give long bans to anyone who goes down when they could stay on their feet ANYWHERE on the pitch. The game has truly been ruined over the past few years and it's a crying shame it's been allowed but not helped by the FA being scared of upsetting the applecart.

The so called 'best league in the world' really isn't and is slowly being exposed.

Another key factor in refereeing standards is the culture of celebrity refs. The best ref we have had this season was home to Leicester - I haven't a clue what his name is and that speaks volumes. No fuss, no attention grabbing, just getting on with the game. But you know when Moss, Atkinson et al come to town they like it to be all about them.

Whilst I agree that would be great - the inevitable conclusion to it would be one of our players (Richarlison most likely) getting punished long before serial cheats such as Zaha would. Even those retrospectively punished for diving this season still weren't subjected to the absolute disgraceful witch hunt that Richarlison got after the Arsenal penalty.

So... where's the position on this today?

No one appealed for handball. The player was never asked. Refereeing error.

He wasn't great overall missing a potential pen for us and the handball .

Really? When I watch the clip I count five Southampton players who all immediately appeal. I think we can all be 100% confident though that if the ref had a discussion with his linesman about it, Doucouré would have told him to disallow it.

In slightly more seriousness the only complaint I'd have about Doucoure being banned for the next match as a result would be the inconsistency of it.

Like Wenger he probably won't care but there might be some nuttier out there who does as he says!

The added time is really getting my goat.

    Yesterday 2nd half we had

    2 subs (1 min added)
2 “injuries” to saints players one of which took several mins (let’s say a measly 3 minutes added)
    2 goals (1 min added)
We then had 5/6 incidents where the ref made a big theatre of going up to players and pointing at his watch to show that he had added on time. He even booked the keeper when he took 60 seconds over a goal kick.

What does East add on? 5 minutes. If you are going to make a big show of showing time wasters you are in charge with your watch then add some bl**dy time on. It’s a complete nonsense.

Fine, but what’s the betting we would have contrived to lose if he had added on longer?

Well even in the injury time there was we seemed content to sit back and let them attack us!

Typically I notice in the mist of this Ferguson v officials rant all the Plymouth manager and players saying the ref did nothing wrong and was great!

It probably did us a favour yesterday because Saints went back on top but this is a wider point.

Just a quick question for anyone that understands the rules on handball. I remember reading that "handball" is the only "offence" where the act needs to be deliberate.

I've just been watching the Utd v West Brom game and Pogba leaps to head a cross and deliberately handles the ball (probably a spur of the moment thing when he realised he couldn't reach it with his head). He was booked.

My question is, if Pogba was booked for that, why isn't every player booked when they give away a free-kick for handball?

The laws say a yellow card for handball should be given where it is deliberate and with the intention of interfering with, or stopping, a promising attack. Or to score a goal. Or in an unsuccessful attempt to stop an opponent scoring.

Ok, thanks. I knew that it would be a booking if it stops a "promising attack" but wasn't aware of the rest.

    Thanks.
