    Head & heart.

Ultimately, yes, as a European adventure will linger long in the mind.

    I’m sure yours does.

If we screw up quickly, there’s plenty of time to recover any lost ground in the league.

The revised European format may make Europe more manageable for the likes of us (although won’t hold breath).

How on earth did Fulham get to the final?

I would love to see us get into a position where we qualify for a European spot but I'm old school and only think of the champions league and particularly the Europa league as money making competitions for the big clubs and Uefa

Who really cares about even the champions league until you get to the latter stages

In the olden days the European Cup, the Uefa Cup and the Cup Winners Cup meant something ...…. doesn't thrill me at all now

I think you enjoy this forum more than you should. Could you be the first supporter to change allegiance based on the relative quality of the teams' forums ?

Yeah it should be a goal, but with the propsect of another European competition, then the prize money is even more diluted. Up to a couple of years ago, you'd lose money going into the Europa league.

Yes, please! I was at our very first European game in Germany and would relish a repeat. I’m from the old school who believe you should try and win every game and see what it brings.
I believe our squad is gradually getting better and better, certainly superior to Burnley’s. I’m intrigued to see how our second string get on against Spurs’s next week.

Same last season when they pretty much did what we had under the Pozzos but the media loved them.

So at this stage I reckon Burnley, Cardiff and Huddersfield look like they may go down. Early days yet though, but they are all struggling. West Ham will get out of it if they keep playing like they did yesterday. Newcastle are in a bit of bother too, but they've had a tough start and I'd fancy Rafa to turn it around if he stays...thoughts?

I really don't know how Burnley finished 7th last season, their style is uninspiring but they obviously managed to eke out results all the time; they were not a million miles different to Stoke in many respects. However I think their biggest failing was to not do more in the transfer window.

I think West Ham have enough about them to avoid the drop and I can't disagree with your predicted bottom 3 at this stage.

Burnley came 7th only because they were a little more consistent than the rest. They only got 54 points but were 5 points clear of 8th. 54 points was only 4 wins and 1 draw more than we got. Over an entire season it's not really a great difference. We even scored 8 more goals then their total low total of 36 goals.

Burnley took advantage of a bland, cut-throat league, where everyone took points off each other from 8th downwards. This is why Watford could do very well this season. If you make yourself hard to breakdown and score against, you will always be in with a shout of the points. This is exactly what's happened this season....so far.

In the words of Paul Merson, "I worry about Burnley this year". They had the handicap of Europe, and it is a handicap for clubs like Watford and Burnley. They only lost 1-0 at Wolves, but they were destroyed in all but the score-line. Wolves had 30 shots at their goal, which is the joint most in the Premier League ever, apparently. It seems the magic of Dyche, is not working this season. His core values are still valid, but it's at a club that has been used to it for many years, and probably loses its effect over time. Players get too used to the same voice and sometimes a change is needed just to freshen things up.

They are not keeping clean sheets. In fact they are letting in a lot of goals, 10 so far. So if you add together their lack of goals for, which has carried over from last season, you can see they are going to be in trouble this season.

Yes. I can't see past 3 out of Cardiff, HTFC, Burnley and maybe Newcastle. WHU are under-performing as usual, which is hilarious, but they have too much quality to go down.

The most since way back on 19/8/18 when MCFC had 32 shots against HTFC !!!! :)

Not sure if you can be lucky for a whole season but every week last season Burnley seemed to have a fraction of the shots that their opponents had but kept winning by the odd goal. Time and time again.

32 officially i think which ties up with the BBC report but either way, Burnley were incredibly lucky to only concede 1 !

From what I've seen so far Newcastle, Cardiff and Huddersfield look likely to be the 3 going down. Burnley will definitely get out of it, same with West Ham. If Zaha gets injured then Palace could drop fast, if Evertons injuries stay at this level then they'll soon be in trouble too.

I think 35 points will be enough this season.

I'm sure Vydra's 20 goals will keep them up.

Really feeling Silvas pain at the moment.

I think we should all be more gentlemanly about this and not dwell upon every single Everton defeat.

Nor should we celebrate every misfortune that comes Silva and Evertons way.

No, we shouldnt celebrate, cheer, enjoy, wallow in, encourage and praise each poeticly sweet piece of justice that the universe deals out to him.

Even if he is a slimey, slippery, no plan B , big watching wearing, snake of a man whos scales and forked tongue are visible at close inspection, we should rise above that.

Burnley played parasitic football last year, waiting for a set piece or a mistake to get a goal and then grinding it out 1-0. That is all very well until your defence starts leaking goals and then you are completely ****ed.

I learned something new today, (no doubt you lot will already know but kept me out of the loop).

Did you know a new rule was passed for the Premier League clubs this year that stopped the fancy designs on the pitches.
"Rules state that the playing surface must contain no markings other than the traditional horizontal and white lines"

Shame as I used to like Leicesters efforts.

I thought you'd be upset so I didn't tell you. There should be better offside decisions now those showoff fancy markings have been banned

Also said that the best players hes ever played with were Pereyra and Chalobah. I shed a little tear that Abdi was nt mentioned.

Other snippets for those that missed it...

    • Chalobah will be worth 50 mill in 18 months time if he avoids injury.
    • Respects Southgates honesty about missing out on England squad...but is glad he is even spoken about. Intends to play better so that Southgate has to make the decision again.
    • Says there is a lot more to come from this team.

My Mac crashed and I lost my spreadsheet which I use to collate footballer cliches in order to equate their cliche/words spoken ratio.

Gutted as it had my earliest data from the 80s collating the comparative "Sick as a Parrot" ratio when playing away versus home in Europe.

Bournemouth getting beat (so far) by bottom of the table Burnley makes our point today, and win at Turf Moor, look a bit better.
