    He's Kevin, Kevin, Kevin Wimmer
He's handsome, trim, and no one's slimmer
    He'll never need a Zimmer

Spurs apparently want £20m for Kevin Wimmer so I seriously doubt we'll do anything there..

Chelsea loaning out Zouma this season, would be a good player to get

How has that happened? So odd, he looked ready to step up almost immediately when he came in, hugely heralded, and now he's not good enough for them at all (this season). Madness.

Chris Barrie lives around the corner from me - saw him in Lloyds bank a couple of weeks ago - shorter than you would imagine / dapper and wearing a country gent shooting cap!

Apparently Zouma is going out on loan, as Chelsea are after Bonucci and Van Djyk

Watford need some homegrown players in asap. Last season we were short on players (particularly towards the end of the season) as they did not have a full 25 man squad named. I believe that there should have at least 8 hg players in. As matters stand we have Cathcart, Mariappa, Hoban, Cleverley, Watson, Sinclair and Deeney. We may be getting Hughes in. From that list there are significant doubts about whether a number of them will be with the club next season or good enough for our squad (Watson, Sinclair, Hoban, Marriappa). Deeney is also subject to speculation in terms of moving on. I can only presume that they are working on this particular dilemma, as it will be an unseemly and costly scramble trying to get hg players in at the end of the window.

Unforutnately Zouma is not homegrown but would still be good to replace Britos/Kaboul with.

I also found out his middle name is Happy

We have got 4 or 5 strikers amongst our youngsters, but are any of them ready to step up and be 1st team regulars yet? Because if they are, they could be the answer to our current striker problem?

    What do you think: -

Success? Sinclair? Peneranda? Jakubiak (21 in August)? Folivi (20 in February)?

  16. nornironhorn

    nornironhorn Administrator Staff Member

Success was very hit and miss last season although he didn't really get a chance

Sinclair couldn't cut it at Birmingham (last I saw he wasn't even in their match day 18 under Redknapp)

Apparently still work permit issues with Peneranda

Jakubiak scored once in 10 games for Wycombe last season, and 0 in 3 games for Fleetwood in the first half of the season.

Folivi joined an awful Coventry side in January, yet only made his debut coming on as an 87th minute substitute in the last game of the season.

Can't see it personally. Success is easily the closest and I'd like to see him play down the middle occasionally next season because his pace and strength can cause problems. He'd probably be better as part of a front 2 as well. I wouldn't pin my hopes on him though. I think he's better suited to the wing currently, he's strong and direct with the ball at his feet, but I don't think his passing/finishing are good enough to play down the middle consistently. Often when he shoots it's rash effort and he gets poor connection on the ball. This is something I noticed watching the highlights of him at Granada too

Charlie Taylor to push Holebas would be a great signing. Young, English and free. Just have to beat West Brom for his signature.

Stoke have bid 12mil for Ben Gibson today. I would love to see us go in for him if its for that sort of money, but Skysports recon Boro are holding out for 20+ mil and I cant see us getting into a bidding war for an overpriced homegrown player.

I see Chelsea have slipped my least favourite clause into the Nathan Ake deal...

    The "buy back" clause.

As seen with Alvaro Morata and a tonne of other Real Madrid players, this clause isn't being used the way it should be. It's undercutting the true resale value of the player. Hypothetically, say Ake goes for £20m to Bournemouth, becomes an established international player and Bournemouth win the FA Cup or something, Ake's market value might be £35m, Chelsea's "buy back" will be a shade over the original sale price, say £25m. Chelsea sign him back for immediate resale, because he won't get in their team, and they recoup a further £10m which Bournemouth should have got.

I don't mind the sell on percentage, that genuinely helps the smaller clubs. But the buy-back clause is a farce that only acts as insurance and profiteering for big clubs.

Both clubs know what they're signing up to and the risks involved. Bournemouth could always refuse the deal after all

    I don't see the problem

Or you could look at as Chelsea saying - you can have Ake for £20m with buy back for £25m - I suspect that will increase each year of his contract by say £1m a season and the clause will only last until the end of the contract. Other option is for Bournemouth to pay £30m now with no buy back clause - it works both ways and has benefits for both clubs. I dare say muff will only pay 50% of fee now and rest over next 3 seasons as well so as said above each side gives a bit and they know what they are signing up to

Yeah, I suppose it's probably not £20m upfront. Just seems like a long-winded version of a loan to me. Wouldn't be happy if Pereyra has a buy-back with Juventus, for instance - one good season and he'd be back at Juve and swiftly off to Man City.

Oh well, as far as I know none of our players have that clause, so that'll do me.

I'm started to get a little concerned - albeit by what's written in the press. I'm starting to feel like we are not close to signing any of our targets and are just bouncing around players. I was quite excited about - lemina, Allan and Robertson now it seems more likely to be friend (who isn't good enough or young enough imo), a young keeper released from stoke and a striker from udinese who at best looks a big risk. This is compounded by muff going out and getting players early - their first choices in begovic, Defoe and Ake - yes we have made a good signings big in Hughes, but we need players in asap ready to start pre season - it feels like we're gambling on our lesser preferred choices rather than sealing the deals - no doubt the Pozzos will prove me wrong, but it doesn't stop a man from worrying

    I don't think Bachman
I'm pretty sure Bachmann will not be the alternative to Neto. If we are looking for an new first choice keeper it will not be him. He is homegrown so I would expect he will be taking the spot vacated by Gilmartin.

I have to agree that Begovic and Ake look like very good signings, but I have no doubt that what we hear from the press is not all that is going on at the club. When we signed Niang there was barely a sniff of a rumour and next minute he was signing under the noses of West Ham and Everton.

On the other hand, the Pereyra saga went on all of last summer and we still gro our man so I still have hope that we could land Lemina, Alan or Robertson. Players are always going to wait to see if they can get a better offer than us, and all three of these players are either already playing for champions league sides or linked with top premier league clubs.
If we have to settle for our second choices then so be it, but it's great that we are trying to sign players of that standard.

WTF is going on? There seems to be more serious talk about us selling players than us bringing players in, furthermore a lot of the players that are being linked with possibly leaving us are players I think we should be keeping: - Deeney, Okaka, Prodl, Holebas, and Berghuis + others. Admitidly we have also been rumoured to be interested in quite a few players, but they either end up going elsewhere or just drop off the radar after a few days.

It's July 1st tomorrow and I think it is about time we actually started to bring in some decent players, or I fear for our our PL survival this season!

I could have missed it but I didn't see Kaboul in any of the photos or the video from today. He certainly hasn't been away on international duty, so if he wasn't there, does anyone know the reason? (Personally I'm hoping it's a sign he has been sold). I don't know if he got married and is away on his honeymoon or something like. Anyone know why he wouldn't be there, if in fact he wasn't?
