We could be Spurs' opposition when they stage their first premier league game in their new stadium. We are due to play them on the 30th January, although I am sure they would prefer to stage their first game against Man Utd on 13th January. Lets hope the contractors continue to let them down.

They'll probably still move it to MK dons just to spite us

    Good, I enjoyed it there.

There's no way on earth that they'll want their first game at the new place against anything but a "big" name. Watford? Not going to happen.

Why am I getting a commercial for Everton FC's shop across the top of this page? I don't need a fancy watch or snake oil.

Wouldn’t be shocked at all if Spurs don’t play at their new stadium until next season to be honest.

I’d be furious if I was a fan of theirs as the stadium was clearly nowhere near being close to ready.

Reckon they will want their first game there against a team they can beat, Man United it is then.

I was with a mate over the weekend who is very high up in the building industry, he does not work for Mace but up that high in the building industry it is a very small world.
I was chatting to him about the stadium as he is a spuds fan.
Word on the street is the stadium will not be finished until February at the earliest but March is more realistic.
The main problem is not the electrical work as stated in the media but let’s just say there has been a lot of nepotism going on by someone in the spuds higherarchy. A massive fitting out contract has been handed to a firm which is owned by a good mate of a certain someone on the spuds board, the fit out is worth 3 times what the company have ever turned over in a year before and they are struggling with the job massively.

They also have to hold a couple of "test events" to get the safety certificates for the stadium, so would need to stage a youth or U23 game there and perhaps a friendly where they will get decent numbers in before they get the nod from the football authorities to open it fully.

Poch will be off to Real Madrid, not least because Spuds will be skinny by the time they have finished eating for the stadium.

    Good point.

Expect several fallow years for Spurs on the pitch as Levy pays the bills for the stadium.

They’re looking really off the pace this year. Kane, Alli, Lloris, Trippier all poor. If Man U weren’t such a circus act, Spurs would be nailed on for 6th.

    Poch deserves better.

Interesting stat that I’ve just seen on Twitter - every team from 2nd to 8th has got the highest points total in PL history after 10 games for the position they are in the table. So we have 19 points in 7th position and no team has ever had that many points in 7th before. In some past seasons in would be enough to be 2nd or 3rd.

Spurs aren’t doing badly in comparison to the last few seasons. Just the other teams around them are giving that illusion.

I actually agree with what Tim Sherwood said on the radio about Spurs - whilst the farce over their stadium continues, they should just focus on staying Top 4 and try and win the League Cup. They need a trophy to keep fans happy.

Think that is an irrelevant point - teams compete with each other in a given season, not across different seasons, so saying that they are better off than they were in 1992-3 is meaningless. We wont qualify for Europe because our final points tally means we would have done so 4 seasons ago.

It’s not irrelevant when the post I was replying to stated Spurs are looking off the pace this year - because they’ve started as well as their previous few seasons.

The gap in quality between the bottom 8 &, dare I say it, the top 8 this year is yawning.

Before this weekend, the big 6’s record against the rest was P40, W34, D3, L3.

Ourselves & Muff not too far behind.

Spurs have been playing poorly this year & are flattered by their points tally. They edged past Cardiff & Newcastle, lost to us & are drowning in Europe.

Their top half dozen players are repeatedly described as tired from the WC. I think even the Clowns of Colney would have revivified them 3 1/2 months after the tournament.

A bleak midwinter of Europa League & scrapping for 5th awaits.

Poch’s loyalty to the skinflint Levy is puzzling. The bonus is that it keeps him in England developing young English players. He would suit Man U. Other than that, I hope he gets the opportunity at Madrid.

More important, is the Top 6 becoming the Big 8?

Superb if so, especially if it’s us & Muff, rather than Snakey’s mob, who complete it.

(A caning on Saturday, in front of The Best Fans In The World TM, might answer that question.)

Where I would agree is that they have scraped a few results. But Spurs have started poorly the last few seasons - by comparison this season, they are actually doing better - just the position in the table is a couple of places down due to the form of other teams. Recent history shows that they rapidly grow into the season and are quite capable putting 6/7 wins together. They are 5 points off top place - not bad if they are struggling as much as some are saying.

As for Europe - yes, they are doing poorly there. But Inter Milan are resurgent this season and Barcelona are, well Barcelona. It's only PSV I'd say they definitely should have beaten.

Where Levy has (perhaps) let Pochettino down is squad depth. The quality outside of their best 13 or so players is just not on a par with the Liverpool's and the City's. They have a huge demand to keep players fit and not be able to rest them. Salah, Aguero, Firmino, Aubamayang have all managed to sit a game or two out already this season in the PL - Spurs can’t do that with Kane.

But - I’m not sure I find his loyalty puzzling. To the contrary, I find it refreshing. I like the fact that he’s continuing on what he did at Southampton and doing what a manager/coach should do - bringing through homegrown players and buying players then coaching them to be better. Maybe, just maybe that’s what Pochettino thinks a manager should do rather than just open the chequebook each time as the others like to do. I’m not really sure the Real Madrid job and demands of instant success will be right for him.

More than results in previous seasons it may be worth looking at who teams have played so far:

As we know we’ve played 3 of the supposed big 6 which means our points tally is pretty good. Unfortunately we have played the weaker 3 and have the brutal prospect of Liverpool and City in back to back home games coming up. That said, we’ve also only played 3 (maybe 4 if you include Palace which I don’t) of the teams currently really struggling.

Spurs, as mentioned, have got decent points considering that everyone feels they are playing poorly. Man City was only their 3rd match against one of the fellow “big 6” and they have had a number of games against the weaker teams in the division.

Bournemouth is the most interesting though from our standpoint. They stand a point ahead of us largely due to the disaster of a few weeks ago. However, they have faced precisely one of the “big 6”, a 2-0 away defeat to Chelsea. Otherwise their start has been, how do I put this politely, piss easy on paper.

Makes that bloody game against them even more annoying now. Not half as annoying or embarrassing as losing to United though.

It is. Saying they have 21 pts means they are 5th and 5 pts off the lead after 10 games. Saying that 3 seasons ago 21pts after 10 games would have had them joint top means the square root of **** all
