A suggestion rather than a rumour but would we be interested on any of these Sporting Lisbon players who have walked out of their club? Wasn't Carvalho wanted by West Ham last summer ? https://mobile.twitter.com/PTFootba....com/PTFootball_en/status/1006213175421931520
Farcical situation they've got themselves into. God knows how much money they've lost on the open market with those players walking away from their contracts.
Bruno Fernandes is a Pozzo man from Udinese, Rui Patricio has been a target. We'll get neither, but if Doucoure goes, could do with both!
Maybe I’m being simple but how can footballers just walk out on a contract without having to pay up the remainder of it?
they claim to have just cause, based on the actions of the chairman. I can't say I blame them, but I am extremely annoyed. I decided to get a season ticket for sporting next year because my girlfriend convinced me it would be interesting to watch a "successful" club for a change.
But what ‘just cause’? I’ve read something about them being confronted by fans at the training ground but is that really enough to claim a breach of contract!?
I guess eventually we'll find out in the Portuguese courts or the Court of Arbitration for Sport. I expect FIFA will become involved too. I can't see Sporting's owner taking it lying down.
I only read something in passing but apparently the players were attacked by fans who invaded the training ground. Players are claiming that the Chairman is meant to be responsible for their safety and that he is the cause of the toxic atmosphere around the club. there are also some claims that the president had some involvement in the fan attacks but I'd imagine they would find that very hard to prove!
i dont know how much of this is just water cooler gossip but the chairman has been very critical of individual players and was formerly part of the group of people who invaded the training ground to attack players (and escape in some cases in the back of cars with club officials). he's also been selecting certain players on social media saying he wanted to fire them/cancel their contracts so I would guess it's a case of constructive dismissal. when I get to work later I'll investigate the proper Portuguese papers
To be honest I wouldn't bother. You don't hold as much credibility as Miguel Pinho and our other ITK sources from the Peninsula.
Players from the Portuguese league in general flop, they want too much time on the ball. Most recent highly rated one was Adrien Silva at lesta, who looks dreadful. Add to that Slimani.
Anyone who signs players from Sporting should expect lengthy legal disputes. Can't see the sporting Chairman letting €150m worth of talent walk away with out seeking some form of compensation. Is registration going to be an issue with UEFA?
Expect class action from our whole back catalogue of boo boys. McGoo instructing his legal team as I write. Hope the statute of limitations excludes consideration of my youthful jeering of Welbourne.
No chance in hell that players will be leaving for free. Reduced fees yes but still agree will be an absolute nightmare for any deals to be sanctioned
https://www.record.pt/futebol/futeb...ino-a-nova-vaga-de-rescisoes-no-sporting.html key points: the chairman challenged them to resign. so lots of them did. they have a 30 day window legally speaking following the invasion of their training ground to make the request for contract cancellation. apparently this has happened a decade or two ago with benfica so it's not entirely without precedent. it seems that they are indeed free to sign for anyone they want.
You should have started supporting Benfica. They seem to be doing some interesting deals. Chucky Ferreyra who never played for Newcastle but has been prolific for Shaktar and German Conti an impressive young CB from the Argentine Superliga. A great reader of the game and appointed successor to Luisao who is getting on. I would try and sign Battaglia if we do lose Doucoure, Rugged, physical and goes box to box all game if needed. Having been a former attacking midfielder an excellent passer and decent in the air too. Just on the fringes of the Argentina team as well.
The BBC today is carrying a brief article in this in which is says the players will have to prove their case to a court. Reads as if there's still some way to go yet before their freedom is confirmed. I wonder how long they'll be left in limbo for?
Bas Dost, 61 goals in 61 games, yeah that would do. I'm sure there'll be competition for these players if they are released though.
Its an interesting situation but we won't be signing any players from Sporting. Might be decent targets for the snake though ?
wolves got the goalie, and he's a good one, so I'd say it's open season! get in some defenders and a striker!
Ivo Pinto and Oliveira have done well for Norwich, and there was that bloke who went to Manchester Utd
So hypothetically Wolves play There new keeper , the legals in the end rule in favour of Sporting Lisbon,Do Wolves get done for fielding an ineligible player?
Sporting have officially complained to FIFA about Wolves signing Patricio now. Apparently they want £48m compensation.
