So we'd change coach possibly tactics and required players just before start of season. You don't think that would be an issue ?

Better than having a Head Coach that doesn't want to be here.

Of course but better to have a head coach who does want to be here given most on here were delighted when he signed ?

Or we sign players in the positions he was promised? Our squad gets strengthened, our manager goes back to being happy and our results will be better

We don't know what's been promised, pure speculation, plus, the transfer window doesn't close for another 3 weeks.

Also, if it was as easy as you make it out to be then don't you think we'd of done it by now?

Some of you need a reality check and realise that this isn't a game of Football Manager.

Getting in players in early is good, but not essential.

I imagine Gino is contact with a number of the sorts of players who are too good to let go, unless a better player becomes available. It only takes one player to accept a transfer, to have a chain reaction that allows quality players to become available, both on behalf of the selling club and the player who wants first team football.

Have patience - it will happen.

I think having some moody **** in the dugout just because he hasnt been able to spunk a load of money on some crap players would be more of an issue, and under those circumstances I'd rather he ****ed off now than stayed.

but of course it's all speculation based on the fact he wasnt smiling like a raving madman in one interview.

I keep seeing "this isn't football manager".
I don't think people think the world of football is a great big game of football manager. The problem is other clubs are signing players and we aren't. Some fans are a little frustrated.
    I think that is understandable.
A decent signing or two would help no end.
The club doesn't need a fanbase that is worried and thinking that relegation is going to happen, it needs some pozzotivity!

One of the annoying things on sky sports news is the ongoing transfer issues every summer of a player and a club chasing him. Maybe we are involved in a long process to get one of our main targets, so could still happen and not necessarily that we keep getting knocked back entirely.

Care to show me where I've said it'll be easy? I'm just saying we need to kick on and get deals done.

You're suggesting it would be better to ditch a head coach if he's upset about something. I'm suggesting we sign the players he is expecting and he doesn't become unhappy in the first place. If he is unhappy with certain areas of our squad then who can blame him? In his own words he's still expecting 4-6 players

Transfer window formally opened on June the 9th, that was 2 months ago and the season starts on Saturday. It's not like it's only just opened and we have a month till our first game.

Its quite clear the club are working on it behind the scenes, but with the season about to start we could essentially be giving our competitors a head start.

I think it's barely understandable. We've signed players already this window, are clearly looking to bring more in and despite the belief of some on here it's not as simple to sign players as Gino getting out his cheque book and asking the selling club to name their price. I'm not sure I've seen a transfer this window by another PL team which we could realistically have afforded that I'm gutted we didn't get involved in. Asmir Begovic probably comes closest for me. Maybe Maguire from Hull too but Fester were always going to be a bigger draw thanks to their exploits the year before last. Everyone else is either out of our league or completely unproven so not worth crying about.

Our biggest issue last season was a lack of goals.
Our main striker is currently injured and we have no more options from last season.
We may be signing a relatively unproven winger from Brazil.
As others have pointed out, we could well be giving other teams a bit of a head start in what could well be a tough season.
You don't think a little concern and frustration is understandable?
I'm not saying it is all doom and gloom but I can understand why people are a little concerned.

We outscored 4 teams, 2 others scored 1 more goal over the season than us and WBA only managed 3 more. That doesn't strike me as a crisis more than just something we need to improve on if we're genuinely aiming for top half. As I often say lots of people on here overestimate our failings and what we need to get by at this level. Even the head start argument falls into that category. Obviously it depends what the target is - I dare say we'll be out of the title race come September - but what's the worst the damage is likely to be in the worst case scenario (0pts) after 5 games? A gap of 3 or 4pts? Hardly daunting.

I'm not sure there's a club out there - outside the top 5 or 6 - who will say their business is done and they're perfectly content with their squad. Huddersfield and Brighton have added numbers but lots of them are non-entities.

I think the reality is people soak up rumours like they're fact so presume every one that doesn't materialise is a black mark against Gino and the recruitment team.

  19. Cassetti's Beard

    Cassetti's Beard First Team

    Was it though?

We scored 1 less than Southampton who finished 8th, and conceded one less than Sunderland who finished bottom, on paper our main issue was our leaky defence, and in reality it was the lack of creativity from midfield.

I didn't look at the table before I posted that and you are right. My perceived 'lack of goals' is clearly not that accurate.
I will hold my hands up and say I'm wrong, though I think we do need to address our attacking options.

    1. Get the best players, for the positions we need, for the right price, at the start of the window

    2. Get the best players, for the positions we need, for the right price, by the end of the window

    3. Get the best players, for the positions we need, at an inflated price, at some point in the window

    5. Get average players, for the positions we need, for the right price, at some point in the window

    6. Get average players, for the positions we need, for an inflated price, at some point in the window

    7. Get average players, for positions we're sorted in need, for an inflated price, at some point in the window

Silva getting his wish and we are moving forward as a club.

Sounds like Karnezis will sign for us at some point this window.

Really need a quality LB and a quality CB though, which I have no doubt we will sign.

I would imagine that our announcing of signings is done for this week though so we can focus on Liverpool.

    From the BBC website...

Marco Silva is preparing for his first competitive game as Watford manager and it is a tough one, with his side against Liverpool.

Silva says: "We are working hard in our preparation and I think we are ready. We start against a very good team, and that is the best way to start. It is the first test, nothing more, we need to play against everybody.

"We play at home and that is important to get a connection between us and our fans and we need to show something special in our stadium."

On the signing of Burnley striker Andre Gray for £18.5m, Silva adds: "He is a good player, I know he is a player who wanted to come to Watford, wants to improve and fight for his position in the team. We analysed the positions we wanted to sign new players, he is different to our other strikers. The market is a bit crazy this season."

I'm happy to start the season with Holebas as our LB, but he's not getting any younger and is a yellow card magnet. We need cover/competition for him.

Agreed, but Holly looked a lean mean fighting machine last Saturday. His concentration was good and no rash challenges. Hope Silva has briefed the players about the new rules and particularly about avoiding silly yellows for dissent. Our disciplinary record was awful last season and is entirely avoidable as I don't see us as a dirty team.
