The Scottish Premiership will be starting pretty much on time on 1st August, which clearly will be out of sync with English football. We don't know when other leagues in Europe will restart, particularly since the like of France curtailed their seasons and some like Germany completed them. But could we even see different leagues, or even different divisions, within a country starting at significantly different times? e.g. Premier League, Football League, National League etc.

Didn't Andre Gray mess up a kickoff away at Tranmere or something? Not particularly relevant, just an amusing memory.

Thought I would post this here as it may have ramifications in the long term for the pyramid here. In principle Belgium clubs have voted to merge with the Dutch league ending the Jupiler and Eredivisie competition to create a BeNe League.

It makes sense in terms of finance for the clubs although I presume the larger ones will have more to benefit from it which may cause tensions. It will be interesting to see if UEFA sanctions this and if it does how league spots are allocated. It is a small market but for a long while now the biggest clubs in Benelux have struggled to cope with the wealth of clubs in other leagues. Ajax apart the other traditional big guns of the zone have failed to make any impact in recent years such as Anderlecht, Standard Liege, Club Bruges, Feyenoord and PSV.

There is also a common cultural inheritance as well given the Walloon/Flems in northern Belgium if you know about how the regions of the Spanish Netherlands were ceded to and fought over in the past. If sanctioned we can expect the Old Firm to start up their protestations to join the English pyramid I expect.

However one can expect in Holland and Belgium stiff resistance from supporters with long established derbies lost for instance. How is the CL qualification quota affected as well ? Regional leagues do exist in other sports notably ice hockey for instance but if this does get the green light can we expect to see a Balkan league ? A Baltic league ?

    Trouble at Hearts.
Fans unfurled banners against manager and owner.
They are currently top by about ten points, having been harshly relegated at the premature curtailment of the Premiership season.
However they lost in the second round of the Scottish Cup to Brora Rangers in midweek and are currently 2-1 down at home to Queen of the South, who probably still have Mr IBB's dad in goal for them!

Hearts are in an odd situation. Score plenty but let's in loads too. Has Queen of the South yesterday who s rapped a 3-2 away win only to be let down by a Gillingham equaliser late on.

I've always followed Hearts since the '80s when they came for a testimonial or a stand opening* and I swapped scarves with a drunken or possibly just unintelligible Hearts fan.
I even used a Hearts coloured tea cosy yesterday at half time to try and galvanise them to some kind of recovery. I suppose it worked to a degree as they equalised only for an og to donate the points.
They should be far too strong for the Championship ( sounds familiar?!) and will probably go up with points to spare but really,2-3 at home to QotS?
Perhaps it raises the games of the other sides, especially playing at Tynecastle.
The moral of the tale is I can always find a football team or tennis player to fret over!
    * I know I've been corrected on this before.

It was the Steve Sherwood testimonial. Many of us went on the pitch at the end. Everything seemed great, then GT left shortly afterwards. :(

The missus used to live in Gorgie (a stone's throw from 'The Diggers' and 'The Monument') and I found the Jam Tarts always very welcoming and a friendly bunch (this was during our first EPL implosion). Much the same with the Hibees that I meet in Leith.

I saw a Hibs-Hearts derby in 1967. The teams chose the opposite ends to what the fans were expecting and so, with no segregation or barriers, the fans all changed ends. There was a massive fight when they met halfway, and the match kicked off several minutes late. And Hibs were awarded a pen after a couple of minutes play ...

I know the son of the former Hearts hero Kniksen he's the one who warned me of their weak defence. Score goals but let far too many in. Supposedly the fans aren't happy either and they're or were 10 clear at the top. They got knocked out of the cup by some no mark team lately also. Fingers crossed that it's just a blip and get promoted because it was criminal on how they got relegated.

I've been a Hibee since I was a wee bairn though also supported my local team Stirling Albion who unfortunately have never managed much of note in 50 years of following them. We moved South to Bushey in 1975, went to my first Watford match in 1977 and the rest is history, the Orns have been number 1 ever since, closely followed by Hibs. Can't say I bear the Jambos much animosity being so far removed from things though always delighted when we beat them naturally. Hope they do get up this year as they were hard done by.

    Football's gone mad - latest.
Brora Rangers have been declared 2021 Champions of the Highland League. They have played three games.

I really don’t understand why UEFA can never bring themselves to simply punish the perpetrator in these cases - there always seems to be a punishment for the victim too. Whether you think a 10 game ban is enough (I don’t) or not, to give a ban to the victim offsets the impact. I know there was an element of assault in this case (with good reason!), but we’ve seen the same thing happen before when the victim makes a stand by walking off the pitch. It just doesn’t feel like the authorities are serious about this at all.

Rangers about to go the entire season unbeaten. Regardless of the SPL being worse than the championship in terms of level, still pretty impressive. Have to say Gerrard has done a great job.

Shame about the celebrations. Idiocy on a grand scale and the mess left behind as well. Klopp warming the chair for Gerrard to come in at some point for certain. It's back to what it was a two horse race. Long gone are the days when a Ferguson managed Aberdeen, Dundee United or Hearts would upset the apple cart. It was nice to see St.Johnstone and the Hibies in the cup final for a change. Might watch just to see Doig.

This makes a lot of sense - the top Dutch clubs had a great history until they were overwhelmed by the TV money going into the big countries. But it could prove to be a dangerous precedent.
