what radio shows do you enjoy?

I'm currently listening to Iain Lee on Talk Radio. Does mid-week nights usually 10pm-1pm. It's a very left-field show and he gets away with a lot but I find entertaining. He was on 3 Counties breakfast until 18 months ago.

During the day I like a bit of Mi Soul. Tuesday nights 7-9pm is Peter Borg, never heard of him prior to tuning in. He plays soulful house music from all ages. Paul 'trouble' Anderson on a Saturday night Lots of other good Dj's for those for those that are bored of Madonna like music on the multitude of Heart channels.
Listening to this lead me to other funk/soul stations like The Soul of London and JSL radio.

Point Blank is still good for your house but some is far too hard for my elderly ears!

I still like Chris Evans on radio 2 in the morning. He is always upbeat. Was massive in the 90's. For those that like him, his book is a good read, especially the bits about drinking with Gazza, marriage to Billie Piper and dealing with Richard Branson - Clive, if your reading, no need to comment!

James O'Brien on LBC 10am-1pm. What a wind up at times! But speaks some sense. You won't win an arguement against him, he could start an arguement in an empty room. Clive, if you're reading, I imagine that you agree with his morals!

Iain Dale 4pm drive time show, good political show, a big Thatcher fan but speaks evenly with knowledge about current politics.

Sunday evenings are John Leeche on BBC 3CR for more soul. A nice warm Sunday evening and what more can you ask?

I like the sports bar on talksprt 10pm-1pm Monday to Friday. The only half decent show on that station nowadays

I actually quite JVS with his 'carry on' style campness.

It is when they aren't having childish arguments or maybe that is the point of it maybe!?

Tend to split between 5live and Talksport for mainly sport programmes in the evening.

I hate Steve Wright on R2 with his moronic "Top Jockin', no g" and the seemingly endless stream of dumbasses who text in with basic, present tense verbs, missing the g off the end and think they've cracked a joke.

    Painful.

There is a massive gap in the market for the right radio show. I like LBC because of the presenters but sometimes they talk politics when there's a much more interesting current event happening and their travel updates are a complete joke, I like talksport but hate certain presenters/pundits, I like radio 2 but my god they know how to gap fill, I like 3CR but will turn off the moment anything lu*on related is mentioned, 5 live is very good content wise but the presenters are pants, and this seems to go on for every radio station I tune in to.

My ideal radio station would have:
    Passionate presenters such as LBC
Debate and phone-ins about current affairs, (with a smattering of politics)
Decent travel updates in the rush hours
    3CR style consumer hour
James O'Brien style "ask me anything" hour, but every day, not just Thursdays
    Four songs every hour
More than an average amount of sport

    and no adverts...

That is especially irritating. It certainly isn't funny, I have no idea why nobody around him tells him to stop.

I dislike his soft interviews where he and his team gush over micro-celebs and then laugh falsely like their all having a whale of time. I think that he and Ken Bruce have a secret bet to see who can play the outrageously cr@p song.

James O'Brien's mystery hour on a Thursday is very good, I would like it a couple of times a week but tell him not to try to answer all the questions, which is a problem as he has quite an ego at times. It is sometimes very funny and when he gets an obscure question there is often an expert calling in to answer.

I dislike sports chat stations. I find chatting about football very dull especially when it isn't Watford.

I stopped listening to the Radio about 3 or 4 years ago.

JVS on 3CR was very good. Other than that it used to be LBC, but the quality or call & caller has gone so far down hill recently. People that can't either string 2 words together or have absolutely nothign to say.

A bit like the politics section on here.

    Radio 4.

Except when you accidentally hear a bit of the Archers; with the perpetually tired men and wry, accented woman.

Dreadful. If I hear 2 seconds of his show after Jeremy Vine I feel sullied.

I listen through BBC Radio Player so otherwise I'm rarely listening live. Some great drama and comedy. Often listen to music through shows and mixes on mixcloud.

I Also abhor Chris Moyles on Radio X. I like the station in general for the music, though since it changed from XFM it has become notably frothy, but Moyles is the nadir of the newer commercial angle.

He is surrounded by a sycophantic team of morons and is given free reign to talk nonsense endlessly, spreading each joke so thin and riding roughshod over news, weather, music content etc.

For example, recently there was an interview with Andy Murray on the Sports after the News.

Chris interrupted the Sports hack no less than 5 times to ask him to replay the brief clip, before interrupting again with a loud snoring sound effect. The joke? Andy Murray is boring. The irony? Andy Murray would never have laboured such a weak "gag" so intensively.

I like Russell Brand, Smart and Johnny Vaughan, though much to my surprise. I didn't used to be able to abide either RB or JV but find them both listenable now.

I'm sure @cthulhu will join me in singing the praises of ISIHAC, which is probably my all round favourite radio half hour.

ISIHAC is still tear-makingly funny and Jack Dee is a surprisingly good host.

But otherwise, though I'm exactly the R4 target audience, I can't be doing with it in general. It feels smug, middle class and a bit too clever clever to me. The Today programme just makes me angry, not a good start to the day.

I like the Kermode and Mayo movie programme on Friday afternoons on 5 Live. I tend to podcast it. It's an easy listen when doing something else and I like to keep across the latest film releases.

Why has Moor Park got a square around it? What's so f***ing special about Moor bl**dy Park?

The line around it means the station is in two different fare zones.. there are quite a few dotted around if you look. Why certain stations are in two different zones i have no idea.

The News Quiz is also very funny. I don't think Sandi Toksvig still does it though which is a shame

Frank Skinner on Absolute on Saturday mornings. Ideally with his 2 usual sidekicks Emily Dean and Alun Cochrane, they just seem to rub off each other so well, although the replacements can be good too.

I quite like Jason Manford on Sundays and the Christian O Connell breakfast show is ok too, but Frank is the star, which I suspect is why he seems to be allowed to veer away from the fairly bland Absolute playlist more than anyone else.

    James O'Brien. LBC 10-1pm weekdays.

Always great comment and calls, and Thursdays 12-1pm is "mystery hour", where you can phone in with any question.. and he or other people will call in with the answers.

JVS consumer show on 3CR weekdays 11am-12pm.

Always great listening to the mess people get themselves into.

Agree about mastery hour. Sometimes obrien drive me nuts to though with his inflexible views but sometime he gets it just right. I thought no he has a lot of haters.

As I said, I like JVS. In his consumer show I think he is honest and fair. Most of the time I think the consumers generally have reason to complain but if he thinks that somebody is trying to pull a fast one he'll let them know.

I was never a fan of Toksvig - found her too "Footlights" for my taste, but I was at a recording of TNQ (R4 had a big "on Tour" promotion in '08(?) in Bedford) and off-mike she was hysterically funny (and exceptionally potty-mouthed) and a last-minute panel substitution due to a no-show was Miles Jupp (possibly his first appearance) - who's now, seamlessly, taken helm of the show.
