Definitely on his way to Hacken. Swedish press says it's not sure on whether it's a loan or outright purchase.

The former Blue and White goalkeeper is approaching the competitor.
According to information, Pontus Dahlberg is about to sign for Häcken.

Häcken seems to have found the replacement for Peter Abrahamsson, whose season is over after he pulled off the cruciate ligament in the loss against Djurgården. According to Fotbolltransfers, the club is close to recruiting former IFK Gothenburg goalkeeper Pontus Dahlberg.

It is not clear whether this is a permanent transfer from Watford, who left the Premier League this year, or lending.

The 21-year-old was sold to Watford from Blåvitt for SEK 40 million in January 2018, and was then loaned to IFK Gothenburg during the spring. He has still not scored in any A-team match for Watford, and this winter he was loaned out to the Dutch Emmen. There he managed to play a reserve team match before Dutch league football was suspended due to the corona virus.

Dahlberg has scored in 39 Allsvenskan matches for Blåvitt, and kept a clean sheet six times.

Hopefully only a loan. Feel so sorry for the kid. Just messed about from the start. We really do treat any youngsters coming in with such disregard. Soon no youngsters will want to join us if we’re not careful.

More importantly we are now down to only two keepers. Is one of the youngsters say Parkes stepping up to number three.

Saw somewhere that he spent a lot of time training with the first team squad last season, so maybe?

Bachmann wants out as well. So that literally leaves us with 38 yr old Foster, who will smile his way through the championship.

Should be kept here. Foster as the number one Dahlberg as the number two being groomed to take over. Bachmann can disappear and Heurelho of course is retired. Sending him out on loan again when the former number two has retired and the other choice is not of the required standard is hardly going to inspire any confidence in Pontus about how the club has badly mismanaged his career and do not get started on goalkeepers have longer careers. Like any player they need careful development.

There is a possibility that he’s not good enough to be the number two here. He’s been here for three years yet nobody has got even close to playing him

Even if he is, what good is sitting on the bench here going to be? He's gone two years without playing, yes he's still young and keepers need time to develop, but he's not a teenager anymore, he needs to play

He certainly has the ability. If he was a genuine dud then he would not have earned any recognition from Sweden. Goalkeeping experts and coaches were very positive on him citing his attributes as all the raw materials required to be a top class keeper. We have not done anything to develop him and that means developing in a competitive pressured environment of competitive football of a high standard. That is the only way a youngster no matter their position can iron out deficiencies and maximize strengths. While it seems pertinent now Emiliano Martinez who I saw playing for Argentina u20 had all the same qualities although his decision making was wild at times and over confident at others resulting in a few mistakes in each game. He is certainly showing what he can do belatedly after becoming the number four and three at Woolwich.

Dahlberg has ability but we won't see it until he is given his chance and he can really develop playing week in and week out. All young keepers need this development as we saw when Foster came to us out on loan. A bit wild but with the basic fundamentals pretty decent. And he has had a very decent career. Dahlberg is exceptionally athletic with super reflexes. The other aspects can be worked on and polished. But not while he sits on his backside or does routine exercises with the same bunch of strikers at LC.

Loach had ability which resulted in him being in the England squad. Lots of players have ability at a young age but things don’t work out. The fact remains, there are no clubs in the top two divisions of the best leagues in Europe interested. He clearly had/has ability but that doesn’t make him good enough to be number two keeper in The Championship. Nobody on here has seen him play so not sure how anybody can say he should be number two when multiple people who see him every day don’t think he’s good enough

Loach was in the England squad by default, someone pulled out and he was in the U21s at the time, it's not like he was ever as high as England's #4

I've seen him a couple of times for the U23s.

He didn't fill me with confidence as he looked pretty leaden footed on those occasions. Not particularly imposing when coming for the ball, distribution average as far as I can remember and only his communication standing out as impressive.

Unless he really impresses in training I would send him out on loan with a guarantee to start as the clubs #1 just to get him used to playing regularly again.

Almost sounds like we were hoping he’d sharpen our somewhat blunt attack!

Would be a shame to lose him without ever giving him a glimpse of some game time, but can’t blame him for wanting out to be honest. Better than any of his remaining potential wasting away with us.

We have ruined him by not giving him the remotest chance of playing for the first team. Many players who are dropped into reserve or junior football as The Recluse and I have discussed somewhere else on the forum cannot be motivated to perform. Their expectations are already higher. They get demotivated and decide to try their luck elsewhere. He at least recognizes this was a bad career move and that he was sold a fantastical reality. I would have no hesitation making him number two. Develop him, iron out the faults because the basics are there.

Watching and reading ice hockey the number of kids that certain teams in North America who have been playing top level hockey in Sweden, Finland or Russia for example are left to their own devices in the ECHL, AHL and then return home deemed by fans as wastes of draft spots. The number of these that then develop into busts is high because they have lacked that critical development at a young age around 18-19. Not for lack of talent or ability. But quite a few develop into super players and even return to the NHL leaving fans of those clubs complaining.

We should not be too quick to write off youngsters especially when for some of them we have had no coherent plan. It is not as if he has been misbehaving or showing a complete lack of application like Penaranda who also treated the u23 as beneath him. He actually wants to become a very good keeper. Instead we kept Heurelho and Bachmann who is far from solid and told him to play for a no name club in Holland. Not even in the Eredivisie.

    BK Häcken borrows Pontus Dahlberg

BK Häcken has finished with injured Peter Abrahamsson's replacement.
According to SportExpressen's information, the club is borrowing former Blåvitt goalkeeper Pontus Dahlberg from Watford.

It was last week that SportExpressens was able to reveal that BK Häcken was in the process of settling with the replacement for Peter Abrahamsson. The team's first goalkeeper injured the cruciate ligament some time ago and will be gone all season and possibly a bit into the next.

Last week, Häcken also made initial contact with Watford regarding a possible loan of the former IFK Gothenburg goalkeeper Pontus Dahlberg.
Now the loan agreement is also completely clear.

The 21-year-old is in Gothenburg to sign the contract with the club from Hisingen and the transfer is expected to be official possibly already tomorrow or Wednesday.

BK Häcken would like to bring Dahlberg to the Allsvenskan meeting with Varberg on Thursday and the loan extends until next summer.

It's ok, we can mark him down as the 69th young player that just wasn't 'good enough' under these owners. Sometimes things just don't work out.

    BK Häcken borrows Pontus Dahlberg

BK Häcken has finished with a replacement for cruciate ligament injured Peter Abrahamsson.

The ball club borrows U21 national team goalkeeper Pontus Dahlberg from Watford until next summer.

In the summer of 2014, Pontus Dahlberg trained with BK Häcken, but it would be six years before the goalkeeper was back at Gothia Park Academy, signed for the club and made Hisingen his home ground.

BK Häcken has agreed with the recently relegated Premier League team Watford on a loan of the 21-year-old until 31 May next year and the hope is to get him ready to play already for the next match, away against Varberg on Thursday.

    - It feels fun with a new challenge and new opportunities that I look forward to. I want to come in and perform and hope to be able to help the club move forward, says Pontus Dahlberg.

Peter Abrahamsson has been given between the posts for the past five years, but the cruciate ligament injury he sustained away against Djurgården ten days ago, forced BK Häcken out on goalkeeping.

    - We did not want to be short on that position, so we looked at loans and the important thing was to get a loan all the way until next summer. When we got the chance to take Pontus we could not hesitate. We tried to recruit him when IFK Gothenburg took him - he has been here and trained and we have a relationship as good as anyone, says sports director Sonny Karlsson.

Pontus Dahlberg is a good friend of Peter Abrahamsson, a friendship that goes back to Peter's time in *is, when Pontus practiced with red and blue during a period in 2013. As soon as he saw that Peter was injured, he sent a greeting to show his support to the goalkeeper colleague. Then it went fast and only a week later he stands in yellow and black as Peter's replacement.

    - First of all, it was sad that Peter was injured. He is one of Allsvenskan's best goalkeepers and a very good man, so it was very sad. Then the opportunity opened up for me and I have to think about mine. Getting to BK Häcken feels very good, says Pontus Dahlberg.

Sonny Karlsson describes the goalkeeper as "an offensive goalkeeper type, he really wants to take the ball". Most people who have seen Dahlberg play can sign that the winning instinct is one of his strongest traits on the field.

    - Hopefully I can contribute with a calm on the field that is contagious. And a will to win at any cost, to do everything to win and really hate to lose. I have always had it and I hope to be able to infect myself, says Pontus Dahlberg

Good luck to him. I hope at the end of the loan Watford stop messing him around and either make him no. 1 or sell him so he can get on with his career (and you can bet in that scenario he’ll go on to be world class)

I can’t be the only one who finds it bizarre that we are letting players go before we have even appointed a manager to take a look at them?

Sure, the big earners or big egos might fall foul of that theory as they may have to go regardless - but a new manager/coach should be given the opportunity to run the rule over the likes of Dahlberg before a move was completed. I suspect they would view thy Dahlberg would be No.2 at best so would view a seasons worth of first team action as more beneficial - which I wouldn’t disagree with but the fact remains that it leaves us short and also enforces the view that it’s the hierarchy who pick and choose the squad, the manager has no say.

It’s just another sign of extremely muddled thinking and I really don’t know what the aim is anymore.

Just one of the special highlights that makes our Head Coach role so attractive to applicants. Where else could you have had the challenge 12m ago to "make a water-tight premier league defence from the following; Holebas, Masina, Femenia, Janmaat (broken), Dawson, Cathcart, Kabasale and Mariappa".

What a laughable signing this was.

    - signing a keeper with the physique of a scarecrow for the demanding premier league
    - set his career back years
    - ugly as sin

We're just a parody of a football club at this point.

Well if Foster picks up an injury the terrifying prospect of Bachmann in goal rears it's head. Might be decent enough for the SPL which is at best lower Chump standard aside from the Old Firm. We'll probably sign somebody else as Parkes and Marriott are not going to get a look in. Woolly muddled planning as usual.
