It will be interesting to see where Poch goes next. The ‘experts’ have always said he would be quickly snapped up if Spurs were ever foolish enough to let him leave. Will he finally win something at a ‘big’ club?

I think they're suffering from the same thing as us.

Reached a final for the first time in ages, were defeated and decided to sulk about it rather than prove that they are good enough to reach finals. This ultimately leads to a managerial change for a "stop-the-rot" type.

Players who were expected to leave stayed and appear to lack the appetite for another push.

Clearly a very good manager, but sounded like a discord between chairman, manager and players' expectations.

Yep that seems quite likely. I wonder though if Arsenal waive a huge January transfer budget under his nose, if Poch would consider moving to the bigger north London club. Like Sol Campbell, that really would be a dagger to the heart of the Spurs faithful.

Mauricio Pochettino has been sacked by @SpursOfficial. He helped the club to punch massively above their weight for years. Good luck with finding a better replacement....ain’t gonna happen.

Absurd decision, in my opinion, by Watford to fire Marco Silva after his first bad run. He’ll be snapped up very quickly and Watford will almost certainly get someone less talented.

Must have been talking to him behind the previous managers - will they be criticised?

Will they have half each or will Levy give it to him as part of the settlement?
How long before Spurs fans start moaning about this appointment...oh wait, they already are!

JM is the best chance spurs have had in winning a cup in decades. His trophy haul at man utd was very decent, and a second place finish too.

Not going to happen - I reckon Utd will hold on to Solskjaer until he's had the chance to make a few more signings, one of which being Haaland, before coming to a conclusion.

To be fair, I listened to a queue of pundits lining up to say that sacking Poch made sense because of the high standards expected by the club - I thought it a bit ridiculous after the way that the same brand of pundits typically tear into us when we sack our coaches, as thought it's OK for Spurs to act on a disappointing run of results, but not the likes of Watford.

At least Jug Ears is consistent.

Maybe but I think they have always wanted him and been unable to have him without paying a huge compensation fee. Now he's available for nothing, outside their window kicking cans around the street....dare they risk someone else signing him up...?

It underlines how they report the same event for different clubs. When Watford sacked Gracia and appointed Flores within 27 minutes, it's condemned and seen as disrespectful to the former coach, as there was clearly talks being held behind his back.

Now the same thing has occurred to Spurs. The line is....this is what big clubs do. It's a sign of how well run, forward thinking and pragmatic Tottenham are. There's not one quip about the haste of the next appointment, only a nod of approval from the media guys.

Players get mentally + physically exhausted when implementing a playstyle like Pochettinos (Pep has always said this about the teams he manages which is why he never stays past 4 seasons). When that happens you either need to overhaul the squad or change the manager. Last season was the perfect time for a huge overhaul of the squad (with Dembele leaving + Vertonghen, Alderweireld + Eriksen refusing to sign new contract). Instead Levy dithered and they ended up staying with no new replacements. Now they're paying a worse manager twice as much to overhaul the squad in the summer (with less money to spend having not sold the above players) - most of which won't be suitable when Mourinho does his classic meltdown in a couple of years time and they'll have to do it all over again. Staggering levels of incompetence from Levy.

He is clearly a very talented manager and I doubt Mourinho will match Poch at his best.

But Spurs have been far from their best for quite some time, and Poch looked burnt out, unmotivated and the dressing room clearly had serious fractures which needed mending. No matter how talented, if a managers heart isn't in the job then he has to go. In the last couple of months, it's been clear the Poch wanted to go and was trying to get sacked instead of quitting, as the former got him a £15m pay-off.

This season, if you take luck out of the equation, Spurs should be below us in the table and should have scored fewer goals than us. That should really tell you something about how bad it has got.

Tbf after what he's done for Tottenham I wouldn't hold it against him for wanting an extra pay-out.

Wonder what Poch could achieve with our lot? Not that he would ever consider coming here, it would be seen as a big step down. Still, he seems quite likable and honest.

I'm not so sure on this. He is very media friendly, which is critical when it comes to your reputation, but what has he done that stands him out as a "top, top manager" in the words of Jamie Redknapp? Sure Levy doesn't like to spend big, but equally MP has seen some talented players regress under his watch.
