Not at all sir, it was in response to Runkles assertion that 'no one' cares about God or the Queen. I should have quoted his post, apologies.

I belt it out when England are playing.

What's the big deal, you probably hear it max 5 times in a year? If that.

Getting rather tired of the world, seems like every day there's something stupid and trivial for some idiot to be upset about.

If you like it, sing / listen, if you don't like it, don't sing / listen. How bloody hard is it?

It will all kick off when we have to change the words to God save the King.

I like a bit of national pride, but I wouldnt chav up my car with England flags.

I like a bit of national pride, but don't associate with people who belt out the song loudest, in an effort to proove they're most patriotic. They usually follow it up by booing loudest at the opposition national anthem.

I dont like national pride when it's the banner, flag or anthem of the Tommy Robinson's of this world and used to give the message "dont like it, piss off back to your own country then".

I'm sure I'd love the Queen unconditionally if she started lopping off the heads of a select few of far right Brexiters for what can only be described as treason.

It's a mind numbingly boring dirge of a tune. It's lyrics are out of touch with modern thinking.
I would suggest it might be changed when William takes the throne.

I don't generally sing it, but I stand up and respect it and the tradition. You don't need to sing a tune to be patriotic or proud of your country.

It seems like a wholly inappropriate anthem for Britain, given that one of the verses contains the line :-

    "Rebellious Scots to crush"

Absolutely. It should really be modernised to include the Welsh and Irish too.

Yes, but we have no intention of crushing the good Scots. Allen Smart, Iketchi Anya and so on.

It can't really be 'Jerusalem' as that is about England. Great anthem for England, but not for a United Kingdom.

I don't object to the idea of an anthem, but ours is a bit silly, lyrically. Even I, no fan of the Royals, get a bit stoked up when we've won something and its played at the medals ceremony. I am aware it's all ********, but national pride goes deeper than reason.

Are you ********? The mind boggles.

Does the national anthem affect you or others on a daily basis? No it does not.

The debate you're referring to is a much wider issue which results in profiling of certain people and in no way comparable to this thread.

I'm actually in shock at your post, what a reach and what an absolutely moronic comparison you just made, you utter imbecile.

Or we take out the Scots reference and change it to something more unifying for the UK, like 'Rebellious Faroese to crush' or 'Dastardly Belgians to crush'. Or go the whole Jonathan Hogg 'Hateful EU to crush'.

Which is exactly what happened to the dirge we have now. Quite a few of the European nations used the tune with different words - I'm going to write to my nearest UKIP elected "representative" - the Europeans coming over here stealing our songs...

The only solution to the national anthem is to make it the most recent British Eurovision song contest winner. So for now, and for the foreseeable future it will be Katrina & The Waves - 'Love Shine a Light'.

Good call but he 'Going down to Liverpool (to do nothing)' sounds more appropriate. Reckon we should make Liverpool the new capital after the collapse of London. You can't get much further away from Brussels (and still be safe from devolvement)

We should have a referendum on whether to keep the anthem. If we decide to get rid of it, we can then argue for the next 50 years about it and call each other names on a football forum, you ****s.

You must have a great memory if you recall that.. only that verse hasn't been in use since 1745! Further to that we only ever hear the first verse anyway.

Looking at other uses of GStQ leaves me feeling a bit like i do about old St George. Just like he was pretty unfateful in his patronage.. our tune has put itself about a bit as well. From Hawaii to Norway to Liechtenstein the same tune has been used numerous times for both national anthems and as a Royal anthem. There has been something like 25 different uses for the tune in various places around the world.

Weirdest use I've heard was on the "excellent" The Vietnam War where it appeared to be the processional music (ie music played for the entrance of guests) to the Whitehouse Ball organised/held by tricky ****y for his daughter's wedding.

    Wow, you seem nice.

I'm just making the point that different things are of more importance to different people and that respecting other people's viewpoints and the meaning that others attach to certain things is something that should be encouraged. Just because it isn't important or doesn't affect you it doesn't mean it doesn't affect others, just like how for some the way the term 'terrorist' is used doesn't affect them, whereas it clearly does affect you and is of great importance to you. Maybe if you actually gave this some thought rather than getting upset and calling people names you'd gain a bit of perspective and insight. Instead, you have aggressively steamed into a thread, dismissed the question put forward by the OP out of hand and somehow managed to get extremely angry and emotional when someone calls you up on this.

And that's without even getting into your absolutely disgusting use of the term '********'.
