As I said I have no strong opinion on Amrabat. He was okay for us. Sometimes good, sometimes very poor. It's probably how most of us think of him.

    You keep digging.

  2. What utter bollox. I don't see myself as an enlightened football analyst (I very rarely, if ever, make any in-depth analysis of games as I don't think I am very good at it, and often find it difficult to follow how all players got on in any detail, unlike yourself seemingly having a very high opinion of your own skills), I see myself as a fan who tries to be as objective as they can be within the realms of supporting the Club, and when I make an argument, I try to ensure it is backed up by reality. You should try it.

If you think there's something pretentious about trying to post carefully and honestly, again, it says more about yourself than it does me.

You are arguing over a YouTube video. And a player that was average and no longer plays for us.

  4. Gladly. I stand by what I said 100%.

  5. No, we are not.

    And to save time later
    RTFT (Read the flaming thread).

  6. RTFT

And Burnsy comes in with a late, "WTF is going on? I'll just say something totally random, because, well, just because" comment.

Edit: Sorry Burnsy, that comment was me being a bit of ****. I'll get my coat.

So you reckon Amrabat is good enough for Chelsea, Spurs, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal & Manure?

By that logic, he's good enough for Barca, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Seville, Villareal & Real Sociedad...yet none of those 12 teams came in for him.

    Sorry, I disagree.

  8. RTFT and you will understand what I said, and why I said it. It is that simple.

I never said he would go to those clubs, I projected that if he continued in that excellent form (the comment was made last December), big clubs could well be interested in him. He got injured, and lost form. It didn't work out.

    I stand by that 100%

Do you see your misunderstanding now?

Just thought I’d give a little interlude to a debate that has raged for months and you clearly won’t agree on. And you have been arguing at points about the content of a YouTube video so I stand by that comment. END OF.

I understand what you're saying, however, they wouldn't be interested in a 29 year old coming to the end of his prime, with no CL experience or potential. Had he seen out his contract, then either Championship or lower to mid La Liga team at best.

  15. Certainly not one who has been playing like Amrabat has been playing for the last six months. However.... As per the point I was making last December when I said it.

Good luck to Amrabat in the future but never cut it at Watford. For a winger to not score and provide just 2 or 3 assists in 46 games is a poor effort by anyone's standards. For those who say he worked hard in defence, I lost count of the number of goals we conceded because he failed to pick up a run. In what others have described as his purple patch, didn't he commit a stupid foul by elbowing one of the opposition in the head to concede a penalty early last season. This was just one of a number of defensive errors he made so I don't see his defensive qualities being any great loss.

As for those saying that our forwards didn't make runs for him, how could they make their runs when they never knew when he would deliver a cross or if he would cross at all. Most crosses were either over hit or never got past the first man.

I agree he did a lot of running but if I was on his salary I could do just as much running to no effect.

I am not sure if any of our current crop of wingers will step up but I don't think they can be any worse than Amrabat.

Never really found a home here. Like the other Nordin that once graced our hallowed turf, he promised much but delivered bobbins. And at least Wooter scored.

All fair enough and reasonable. It might have seemed a casual dismissal as everything has been said on here before in detail so i didn't particularly elaborate. But to expand, I do remember his good spell, and I also said previously that he started well vs Brighton and didn't deserved to be subbed so I Ilke to think I can attempt to be balanced. I also remember that I didn't think his spell before his good spell was that good. My main beef is that I think he often loses the ball, slows down play, doesn't deliver into the area and claims fouls which aren't necessary fouls. I think it's an area of the team we could improve on as with the central defenders. Amrabat did have a good spell but he also had much longer spells that were frustrating and he never seemed to deliver what I hoped he would. I suspect Silva and Pozzo think the same hence his loan.

We're in a league where every team can get £15m plus players and have good teams and I think success (of the generic as opposed to Isaac variety) will come down to fine margins. I suspect there will be no room for sentimentality going forward and there will be a continual drive to upgrade weaker parts of the team of which i perceived the 'Bat to be one.

I understand Richarlison could flop but I can't help being excited by him and want to enjoy that feeling while I can even if he subsequently turns out crap.

Anyhow no desire to get into a protracted row and respect your right to different opinion etc and also like to see people defending players against some of the keyboard abuse which is at times excessive and unhelpful.

Such a frustrating player to have watched. I agree with all comments for and against him. I've changed my opinion of him so many times in the last 2 seasons. I'm very puzzled and intrigued by him being in and not in the 25 man squad ... something's happening...

Probably a bit late with this, hopefully the argument has died down, but I posted similar some time ago.

The thing I liked about Amrobat is that generally his first thought was to go forward with the ball, having played in the second half of the QSF reign and throughout the Mazarri era that was a pretty rare thing. This coupled with his willingness to work hard meant the crowd took to him. During much of that time he was the most excitement we got.

Don't think it can be argued, he didn't produce enough end result. However, during that period he at least looked as if he was trying to.

For that I like the Bat and I wish him well and would not be sad to see him come back after his loan. Maybe I need to get with the programme but we would have killed for him a few years ago, that we have moved on doesn't make him **** and deserving of some of the flack he has had.

I was away for the Brighton game, but read reports that he was booed at the stsrt of the game? I find this hard to believe and perhaps it's even more of a stretch to think that it may have hastened his departure from the club.

But if it's true and it had even the slightest effect on him leaving, then those people who booed are ******* heroes and I'd love to buy them all a pint.

He was a bit rubbish, but he worked hard enough. That's usually all it takes for a decent section of the fan base to fall in love with him.

It's not a myth Steve, it was clear from watching him. As he was often furthest forward with few options it's hardly surprising he will have lost the ball or misplaced a pass or two. It's easy to look mediocre in the Premier League. It still takes a decent player to do so and actually get the ball.

Amrabat's disappointing stats, not that you actually quote them, are down to him, but at the very least shared with the rest of the squad.

If it helps, I just watched the whole 9 minute video to see what people were raving about and thought it was quite representative of Amrabat's time with us. To sum it up

There was 1 very good cross which came to nothing and a few nice dribbles where he got out of a tricky situation and relieved some pressure. Other than that it was mainly him giving the ball away/getting dispossessed and chasing to try get it back, a few fouls, crossing into the first man or over the last man and a few shots, 1 straight down the middle and 1 which ended up in Goddidon Park. It also showed him doing lots of running which nobody could deny was ever an issue

My take is he promised more than he ended up delivering. He joined the side on the day we played swansea as we began the slide under QSF. His stats before joining us (goal ratio) weren't great but he seemed to be the creative spark we were missing. He wasn't. Yes he ran but when he beat defender's he'd stop and slow play down (this may have been a Walter instruction last year). He didn't seem to have a strategy for crossing though I accept blame is on all sides for his lack of assists.

I found him frustrating. It always felt he could have been better but he was average at best with no stand out quality. I thought he was good enough for a squad place but he probably wanted first team football especially now he's 30.

He was a bit of a panic buy when the QSF reign started to go **** up and we seemed totally bereft of any attacking threat. IIRC we triggered his release clause at £7m so he was a bit of a cheap sticking plaster at the time, and to an extent it worked because he certainly added something to the nothing we had at the time. But ultimately he was QSF's player and two mangers later and afte several upgrades to the squad he's simply not good enough. I've nothing against the guy and every now and again he made things happen, mostly with his sneaky trick of holding onto the opposition players shirt but at the same time shielding it from the ref, either then drawing a foul or sling shotting himself past them (only to deliver a cross into the legs of the first defender)

A complete total and utter **** player. We're a far better team without him. He offered precisely nothing. But he seemed like a nice enough fellow so I wish him well.

He huffed and puffed and ran around a lot so the obese section of our fans who've never actually played football thought he was a good player, of course.
