He’s clearly a good fit at the club and I think it works both ways.

I’m sure the board will be delighted at what he’s achieved in such a short spell. You have to back that up with what he did at Leicester when teamed up with Shakespeare and it’s clear it’s not a fluke.

I think we’ve stumbled across something that’s working very well which can continue. But I suspect a lot if it is down to how the British core of players have taken to him and others have fallen in line.

Pearson sets the tone. He demands respect, professionalism and hard work. It’s very simple, but not everyone has that personality to lead people like this. Pearson does and coming into a slack environment, where players have been coasting for months, he’s going to have a big impact.

The trick is can he maintain this? Can he get the players up for the fight when we’re safe and in mid-table. This is where all our coaches have failed in the past.

We’re up for the fight right now because we’ve got something to fight for, but take away the jeopardy and maybe it changes.

Time will tell on that, but personally I’d like Pearson to stay. I don’t see him as a coach the top six would be interested in. I don’t see him as a coach even Everton or those middle order clubs would be interested in.

Like I say, we’re a good club for him, and he’s good for us. He’s experienced enough to know a good thing, plus I think he would be loyal. He’s that type. He’s already said on numerous occasions he’s really surprised to be back in the Premier league.

Even if he got other offers I think he’d stay at Watford as long as Watford are honourable to him.

He’s not a Marco Silva, looking for the next big move. He’s a proper manager, not a coach.

It’s a big move away for Watford, but it’s working, so while it’s going so well the owner will not change it.

I had the view that Watford would keep him for the season and if we stayed up, they would thank him and give him and his team a big bonus, but move him on and employ Setien. Now that’s out of the window, plus the spectacular success Pearson is having, I think it’s changed a lot of minds at the top.

Important to keep Shakespeare as part of the package too. You’d have to think he’d be looking for another management gig of his own if the chance arose.

I think he's happy working with Pearson. He's tried management and it didn't work out for him. Of course I don't know his ambitions but he was out of work when we came calling. No one came in for him. I think he's a coach, a very good one, but not a manager. I see him a bit like McClaren in that respect, although McClaren is not smart enough to know what his strengths are. He thinks he's a manager, but he's a great assistant, nothing more than that.

Shakespeare is a great assistant manager.

I thought the relationship just wouldn't work given NP's strong personality and Pozzo's habit of treating coaches like disposable low-importance employees. It's great so far but i'd like to be a fly on the wall after 3 or 4 successive defeats !

It depends on how the defeats come about. Gino is not a fool who will just look at the results and say, he's got to go because we've lost a few games. You can go on a run of unlucky results, where the team is being done over by the referee or just bad luck. It's when the team looks so disinterested or disorganised is when the axe will fall.

If the coach/manager holds the respect of the players and they buy into him, then I think Pearson will be fine. Players lose interest if they do not believe in the ideas, or lose motivation if the coach is not a leader. Pearson will keep players on their toes, I'm sure of that, the only thing that could go is his ideas. Is he a tactician? Probably not, certainly not in terms of elite managers. This is where those that sit around him become so important. I think it's vital we keep this coaching team intact for as long as possible.

All of our premier league managers have gone on losing runs without getting the sack, it’s when it forms part of a bigger, longer term trend they act. Javi didn't get sacked for the four games this season, it’s stretched way back before that. I don’t see any reason why (assuming we stay up) if we keep him and shakey on that we can’t become very similar in consistency to a team like a wolves, who generally don’t lose four games in a row ever anyway.

You would not get our manager saying this:

Ole Solskjaer: "The fact that Van Dijk and Mo Salah scored against us today just shows how far this Manchester United team has come."

Agree with most of this hb1. I said I wouldn’t be surprised if the club let him go after keeping us up. But like you say setien now not an option and that’s the guy I believe Gino would of gone for.

You mention is he the guy for the fight if were safe. I can’t see us ever in the mix for top 4 but 5th to 10th is a different fight and why not NP for this he’s won championships so obviously knows what it takes to keep a winning mentality. And that’s the beauty of the premier league fight for top 4 then 7th then top half then survival.

Ok enticing players to the club might be a bit different if the choice is carloskickaball or the English dinosaurs we might look like having. After saying that the British coaches seem to be doing well with our foreign imports if not better than previous foreigners so hopefully these potential foreign signings look at that.

Strange how people were talking about Setien like he would, at that time, come to a team like us, when we were odds on to get relegated. Fantasy of the highest order.

A lot of the credit must go to Scott Duxbury for the appointment of NP, obviously Gino has ultimately endorsed it, but there is no doubt that was the club playing their joker at the very last moment & thankfully they have made bank with the appointment. It needed to be that risky in order to have any notable pay off.

Laugh if Udinese get an English coach soon. Might not be a bad idea. Sam Alladicio.

Needs to take a long hard look at the decisions he made today especially in not going proactively after a such a ***** team like Villa. As far as removed from the performance away at Anfield for instance albeit without Sarr.

Came in, got everyone together, helped us claw back a bit of confidence and form, but has now started making his own mistakes and was never going to work miracles game in, game out until the end of the season with some of the utter s**t in the squad he has to work with.

If I was him I would be furious that the board completely refused to back him in the window and help him to keep the momentum going. Utterly ridiculous, and I don't see how we can stay up now.

You can only feel for a man that has the likes of Gray, Success and Welbeck to bring on to try and get a goal.

I don't blame Pearson for any of it. The stupid subs were more to do with the lack of any depth in the squad than anything else.

It's not about just our league position, it's about the blatant deficiencies and lack of depth in our squad once again shining through. It's called the bigger picture.

We are lacking quality in key areas - hence being 19th, whether it's "only" 2 points off safety or not - and lacking depth to cover for the inevitable injuries we'll pick up between now and the end of the season.

Well the main issue will be how he gets the players back up morale wise..

    2 damaging defeats.

Even 2 points would have been ok.

I think spending the next week back on basic defending is now key. He is an intelligent man, him and Shakey, They need to get the players together again and find
that unity. Even after we lost at Anfield, we all said on here it was a much better performance and we were unlucky. That loss was our only one in December and through
    mid January.

We have now hit our worst form since they arrived. I do not doubt they can get us playing again and defending much better than we saw today. But we have a lot of players
in this squad who are not good enough. That is not their fault - it's Geraldhi and his rancid recruitment scouting network. A few decent Championship players would be
better than some of what we have, especially in defensive positions.

Why does he insist on keep subbing Chalobah, as well?

Doucoure was horrific today. Hook him instead.

And he was outfoxed by Everton in the sense they brought a defender on as soon as Delph got sent off to cover for the red card..

Whilst we had Success coming on..

I think his recent performances spared him today. But I agree - Chalobah has been much better as of late. He needs to keep building his confidence up, so why not see if he
    can last the full 90?

Apparently Chalobah picked up a back spasm. Still, what we should have done was bring on Hughes and keep Doucoure in a more advanced role, we were lost once he went off.

Absolutely no excuse for choking that result though, disgrace

No, but three of us have to go, so rather than doing something to rectify that in January, we've left ourselves as prime candidates to be one of those three.

I’m really not sure the other teams have brought in players that will improve them at all. I guess time will tell.

So who the players Villa, Bournemouth, Brighton, West Ham or Norwich have bought that would improve our team?

yes, I’d love to get an amazing player in, but that’s not realistic.

we have done no worse than all of our of rivals for relegations. That’s not great... but it’s not a reason to say we will go down.

  35. NathWFC

    NathWFC First Team

    You're missing my point.

Ignore what others have or haven't done, I'm saying that if we had invested in the window, then we would potentially stand out from the pack. As it is, we're 19th once again, on a run of 1 point from a possible 9 and two last minute, confidence shattering losses on the bounce, with a star player out injured, and the likes of Mariappa and Cathcart still starting games week in, week out in the year 2020.

We are favourites to go down with Norwich, and rightly so. We've been down there with them more than anyone else this season and our good form has come crashing down. We needed to add a little bit of quality to capitalise on our improved run and we completely failed, and we are already paying for it.
