That someone else is in the frame. Ivic still the favourite to get the job.

My belief is that Struber is still the clubs preferred man and we are potentially waiting for him to get back to the UK from Salzburg next week to step up proceedings...

If I could post the ‘eyes’ emoji on here in reaction to that, I would...

Leventhal is probably rehashing content he works for a paid subscription site, and the other way they make money is through ad impressions. He probably hasn't got anything new but has a quota of content to deliver

I see that the Serbies chap is now 7/2 favourite to take over, with Struber 7/4 in second.

    7/4 are shorter odds...

I genuinely think someone putting on a small bet has the power to change the market at the moment. Until one of them dramatically shortens in odds, I'd say there is nothing in it...

7/4 is shorter than 7/2? Surely that would make Struber favourite

I did consider trying to save my skin just now and claim I had whooshed you all, but no it was my mistake. On Skybet, Ivic is 7/4 and Struber a close runner up at 7/2.

Lol @ Luca Gotti still being in 3rd. Do they not know he's signed a contract with Udinese?

Yesterday Der Standard published an interview with Gerhard Struber. I have provided a link, but the interview was in German so I have shortened and summarised (but not directly translated) the main points.

    https://www.derstandard.at/story/2000119191881/gerhard-struberich-war-ein-bisschen-der-papa

There was no leader, no hope, no belief when Struber arrived at Barnsley (who had not won a single game). He had to set an example of what discipline and faith mean from day one. The turning point was a 3-1 win over Hull in his third match. The players realised that it was possible to win.

He was very close to the close to the players because the team was young and under pressure, You could see that at the end of the final game.

It was an insane burden for him. He had to give the direction every day. It was not just about the players, it was about every employee in the club. The past few months were accompanied by hardships. They had to forget their families to achieve the big goal. He was not only the manager, he was also a little bit the dad. In the end, everything paid off, they made it.

After the final whistle, the pressure dropped. In the meantime he recovered his balance. It had beens said that Barnsley would be relegated anyway. The only question was by how many points. Barnsley showed the experts that they were wrong. This is what makes football so interesting.

,He took two Austrian players (Michael Sollbauer and Marcel Ritzmaier) from Wolfsberger with him. Goalie Samuel Sahin-Radlinger and striker Patrick Schmidt (also Austrians) were already at the club. Sollbauer and Ritzmaier understood the idea of how Struber wanted to play football.. Sollbauer was a leader. In addition, Schmidt kept proving his killer instinct in the box. He didn't have many minutes on the pitch, but he made the most of his time.

A new language, a new culture. He understood a lot in this half year. Especially as a person because Barnsley has players from 14 nations. He dealt intensively with everyone, he learned from the players. He had to find a motivation, an incentive for everyone and he could not lose sight of the team dynamics. As a trainer, he learned to be even more flexible in tactics, before and during the game.

The "Guardian" named him (in an article) in terms of tactics in the same breath as J*rgen Klopp and Ralph Hasenh*ttl. He has been linked to relegated Premier League club Watford. Can Barnsley hold onto him? Struber said that he is honoured that there are interested parties. His advisor has contacts with one or two clubs from England. There was also something in Germany (he has been linked to Hoffenheim, but Sebastian Hoeneß is considered the favourite) and the Netherlands. But he has a contract in Barnsley, the club is his first point of contact. He wants to get a stable squad for the coming season. He does not need another relegation battle, but ambitious goals.

The soccer world is definitely crazy. Success or failure, one has to stay in the middle. If one is successful, one should not get carried away. Failures should not be sad like death. One has to do it step by step. For him this year is under the heading "Learning". It will be like that again next season. It never ends.

Struber also gave an interview earlier in the week in the “Kurier”, in which he emphasised that (as a father of two young children) he must clarify with his family during the upcoming vacation what is best for them. "If it stays that way that you cannot travel between England and Austria, I can hardly imagine continuing to work on the island," said Struber. However, should it be the same as it was before the corona crisis, he wanted to "take the next step" in England, but Struber also said: "I want a team that is competitive and does not play against relegation."

I was surprised that Struber did not mention either Max Senft (who is quite well known in Austria) or Matt Rose, although he did refer to the Austrian players at Barnsley. Struber may be a great success if appointed, but I have not changed my opinion that his appointment would represent a big gamble.

I've just been told something interesting...

For obvious reasons, I won't name names but I'm sure you'll be able to pick up on the detail.

The club will be conducting an interview on Tuesday via a secure club video conference. One of the parties included in that call is a sports agency based in an Austrian city...
There are also bookings pencilled in for Wednesday - one (provisionally) with the same agency and 2 more provisional bookings but I don't have any more detail than that.

If mods feel I've posted something above that they would rather not be said, feel free to delete!

Go to an agency, get a bunch of CV's and setup a few frivolous interviews.

Sounds like the way we'd handle a managerial appointment tbf.

    Haha probably.

The info was fairly adamant the club now has unified behind a preferred target and the meetings are all provisional based on the outcome of the first one on Tuesday. I’d go as far as saying this is the first time the info I’ve been given would give me confidence were I a betting man.

Sadly, the method in which I got given this info is pretty much closed now as ‘holiday’. So that’s all folks!

I mean, I’m sensing sarcasm based on nothing? There was an altercation at HT. I never once said there was a ‘fight’. Whether you believe what I’m telling you is up to you but I’ve heard it from many corners as has Leventhal etc.

If you’d rather I didn’t give any info ever, that’s fine. I won’t bother if you speak for everyone?

Gerhard Struber seems signed up to an Austrian agency called 'Grass Is Green'. It appears he's the only manager on their books, otherwise they just have Austrian football players.

Grass Is Green brokered the deal for both Struber and Matt Rose to join Barnsley:

    https://twitter.com/GrassIsGreenTB/status/1197122463462756357

So the first call would likely be with Struber, then the second provisional call with the same agency could be to talk with Rose should the call with Struber be satisfactory.

Your information is most welcome. If they really want Struber then surely the hierarchy would do everything they could to accommodate the needs of him and his family. Given the choice between Salzburg and Watford I know where I would reside. ;) The place is a picture postcard as is the Mozarteum and it's Great Hall.

Welcome to Watford Gerhard Struber. :) Fingers crossed.
